What to Buy this Week: Kate Hudson’s Golden Globes Hair in a Bottle
Mon, 14 January 2013 4:40PM
This morning, David Babaii styled my hair.
Coincidentally, at about the same time, David was tending the tresses of one of my all-time girl-crushes, Kate Hudson, who was prepping for The Golden Globes.
Of course, Kate got the real thing.
Whereas I was working with one of David’s new products, Blow Out Rapid Blow Dry Spray.
But, you know what? My hair looks quite like Kate’s right now. If I do say so.
Because this is quite seriously one of the best blow-dry aids I’ve used.
As you’ve probably deduced from the name, it’s designed primarily to speed up blow-drying time. Something about helping to zap away moisture. And, true, it has sliced a few minutes off my styling sessions.
But the main reason I love this product is that it gives great bounce and oomph and volume and what the pros call ‘guts’.
Oh, and it’s also a thermal protectant. So, like most Hollywood types, it’s a wonderful slashie.
Here’s the deal: you mist it into towel-dried hair, and then get to work.
You can definitely feel the product is in there – but that’s probably because it’s a styling aid as much as a blow-dry one, so it can’t be totally weightless. And anyway, it’s not as though it drags hair down at all. Rather, it seems to pump and amp hair up beautifully.
This morning, for an even faster styling session, I first rough-dried my hair (with head flipped over) to about 50%-dry, before sectioning and going about the traditional, technical blow-dry, using a Mason Pearson paddle brush as my trusty tool friend. Even with this sneaky short-cut, the product worked a treat, smoothing out every single kink that my hair naturally has, and creating hair that whooshes around all day long – and well into day three, too.
Upshot: I’d prefer the real David, because the guy’s such a hoot and a delight to be around, but this alternative? It’s pretty close to perfect.
