What to Buy This Week: Lancôme’s Midnight Roses Fall ’12 Collection
Mon, 24 September 2012 10:41AM
If there was ever a time to indulge in a few new beauty buys, then let this be it. The brainchild of Lancôme’s creative director, legendary makeup artist Aaron De Mey, Lancôme’s new Midnight Roses collection was inspired by varying shades of purple, so the colour palette is both royal and oh-so-glamorous. Officially on counters this week, don’t dispel the seemingly winter-esque hues – the bright pops of magenta and cool-toned berries are the perfect addition to your springtime makeup wardrobe.
And here are a few of my standout pieces from the collection:
Vernis In Love in Infusion de Prune, $29
After going through a stage during winter of loving deeper red and purple shades, I’d been tempted to try white, especially after spotting it on the NYFW catwalks. That was, until I found Infusion de Prune, a purple-slash-rich berry-plum shade that was begging to be worn on both my fingers and toes alike. It also has a long, thin brush with a slightly rounded end, which makes it perfect for getting close to the cuticle to create your ideal nail shape. One coat and I was set.
Blush Highlighter in Moonlight Rose, $75
For a little back story, the soft, pinky-white, yet almost rose gold pigment of this heavenly highlighter was inspired by the moonlight reflecting off the River Seine in Paris. Très romantique! The palette itself is almost too pretty to touch – almost – with the intricate rose embossed into the softly-milled powder. Not only does it dust on beautifully as an illuminator along your high points for serious glow-factor, it also works a treat on the inner-V to open up your eye area, leaving a luminous, pearl-like finish.
L’Absolu Crème de Mat in Magic Pourpre, $49
I’ve recently fallen in love with matte lipstick all over again. That said, a slick of gloss never goes astray, but I’m not a fan when it veers into sticky territory. This is where L’Absolu Crème de Mat steps in. Along the same lines as YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain, it’s basically like a lipstick-gloss hybrid, so it glides on like a gloss but has the creaminess of a lipstick, drying down to a matte finish. My favourite pick of the bunch is Magic Poupre, which is a cool-toned pink, almost magenta berry. So pretty and perfect for summer. As for the applicator, the angled tapered sponge tip makes evenly distributing the colour over your lips a breeze, allowing you to carefully define your Cupid’s bow.
