3 New Year Beauty Resolutions You Might Like To Borrow

Sun, 15 January 2012 9:15AM

With the rolling around of any new year, it’s important to set yourself some goals. Something to strive for during the twelve months ahead that will not only make you feel amazing, but make you look good too. So, why not pop one, or all three of these should-try new year beauty resolutions onto your list, Primpers? Go on, it will be fun.

1) Up the Vitamin D

I know, I know, it seems a little odd for a beauty editor to be encouraging more sun, but it’s important to not go too far the other way and not get any sun at all. Vitamin D is crucial in helping strengthen your bones, boosting your immune system, and generally, keeping you healthy. So, while wearing sunscreen everyday is still on the agenda, if you’re a shady cat like me, it’s time to stop hiding from the sun and dedicating 10 minutes a day (out of the hours of 11am-3pm) to getting some vitamin D.

2) Nourish your Locks

I am a regular heat abuser. We’re talking 3 to 4 times a week. Maybe more. And as many of you know, regular blow-drying and heat styling is a little hard on your hair. To counteract all this heat styling, it’s important to not only apply a heat protection spray to your hair before hitting it with a dryer, but also treating your ends to twice weekly deep conditioning treatments, too. Your hair will love you for it, I promise.

I enjoy: Kerastase Nutritive Masque Oleo-Relax, $55; Wella Professional Biotouch Volume Protein Mask, $20.95; and L’Oreal Hair Expertise EverStrong Deep Replenishing Masque, $12.95

3) Accept the reality of fine lines. And treat them.

Fine lines are a fact of life. And a beautiful one at that. They are the lines that reveal all the moments in our life worth remembering, and for that, we need to accept them. But, if you want to treat them as they deepen, it’s time to invest in a good quality, ultra-hydrating eye cream, and give your skin the love it deserves. Simply pat the cream on around the entire eye area, taking it from your inner corners, up towards your brow bone.

I’m definitely going to take Tip 1 and 2….would love to take Tip 3 but I’m still looking for a great eye cream, and not having much luck! Have you any recommendations in that arena?

I already have to take Vit D supplements but it’s great to take 10 mins out of a busy day to unwind in the sun. Great tips!

All great tips Yaz! Looking after our skin also involves looking after our health.

I have always used eye creams and have been very careful not to get sunburnt.

My doctor says that more and more young people these days are lacking in Vitamin D. Today’s work and leisure lifestyles are more indoors in front of computers and doing other indoor activities. In addition the push to protect our skins from cancer causing UV rays has meant that we’re not getting any Vitamin D the natural way.

I read an article saying that if we spend at least 15 to 30 minutes in the morning sun between the hours of 7 AM to 10 AM, we can get enough Vitamin D the natural way. Alternatively take Vitamin D capsules.

I really need to drink more water! I think I will start to take a multi-vitamin to with vitamin D. I already use an eye cream and I think it does help keep my eyes looking better.

I wear SPF 30+ AVB/UVB each day but been out in the sun still makes me feel nervous for more than 5 minutes.
I know I need a little more Vitamin D than that so I’ll try to get a bit more in the late afternoon or earlier morning when it’s not so harmful.

I am doing more regular treatments and my hair is loving it. Hair oil every other night also helps:)

Being chronically deficient in vitamin D (and having received many lectures from doctors on how important vitamin D is), I strongly agree with tip 1 and encourage everyone to make sure they get enough. While getting it naturally is always going to be ideal (while watching your sun exposure, obviously), supplements definitely have a place.

Definitely need to get on the looking after my hair better bandwagon though, and should probably start to look out for a decent eye cream… (suggestions welcome!)

I’ll be borrowing all of these thanks, particularly that one about vitamin D – for winter mainly when I suffer SAD.

My other beauty resolutions are to wash my face every night, drink more water, and experiment with my makeup.

I must start using a hair treatment more often.
