Updated: 5 Incredibly Interesting Things I Learned This Week…
Tue, 30 August 2011 9:02AM
…and am dying to share with you, Primpers.
There’s something about being away and out of your day-to-day routine that makes you 10,000 times more inquisitive. I’m not sure if it’s the energy of this city, or the fact that I actually have time to look around, observe, take in, filter and learn, but either way Primpers, I feel like I’m getting smarter on this holiday. Brilliant!
What’s even more brilliant is the fact that you now have your own little Cluedo, working tirelessly to bring you new trends and interesting snippets of information so that you don’t have to do all the searching. You can just read, enjoy, take notes, and tell your friends – so that you then become the Cluedo of your circle of buddies. Sound good? I thought so.
Let’s take a look at what’s been going down in my ‘hood this week. Aside from Hurricane Irene.
1. Nude Pedi’s are all the rage
Just in case my little How To video on newspaper-print nails wasn’t enough to send you straight to the OPI counter, I thought I’d update you on yet another fun little nail trend taking place in NYC – Nude Pedi’s. This season, it’s all about keeping your brights, or darks, or metallics on the bench for just a bit, so that nude polish can have its moment in the spotlight (read: on your toes). If you’re after something with just a touch of colour, ask your nail lady to put a sheer, shimmery top coat over the top. I love the idea of an orange, or lilac, but why not go for pink or green if you’re in the mood. Fun, right?
Here’s some inspiration…
Jessica Simpson (who needs to go up a shoe size)
Victoria Justice who went for a very sheer nudey pink
2. A/W ’11 ad campaigns are awesome inspiration
I wrote about this for Refinery29 the other day (epic career highlight) and am so excited by the concept of ‘borrowing’ not just the style from the high-end fashion campaigns, but the beauty too. My picks were Prada, Jil Sander and Tom Ford, all of which had stunningly wearable looks that were, of course, insanely on trend. The best bit? You don’t need a pro to achieve them for you, just head into your bathroom and go for (beauty) gold.

3. Plumgundy handbags are a new season must-have. Yes, I made that colour up.
I love the fact that colour is so big on fashion’s agenda right now. Sure, nude neutral tones always look sleek but when you jazz them up with a pop of colour in plum, or burgundy, suddenly you look all the more fabulous. Hooray! My current obsession (hey it’s healthy) is this Proenza Schouler bag…

However, if I want to eat this month I might have to settle for this trusty Marc Jacobs one instead. We’ll see.
4. Chanel Is Launching An Extensive New Foundation Line
And it’s called Perfection Lumière (please allow a moment of silence to absorb this tremendous news). I am a huge fan of Vita Lumiere Aqua (so much so I wore it on my wedding day), so the thought of having an entire new range of Chanel Foundations to play with is beyond exciting to me. According to Chanel’s creative director for makeup, Peter Philips, this makeup uses special technology to create a ‘second skin’ for the face. The foundations also have special light reflecting pigments, as well as special powders to blur out any imperfections and make you look, well, perfect. Add to that a shade range of 23 shades globally (we’re only getting 6 but that’s still a good mix); a 15-hour stay-put time, AND, a semi matte finish so anyone can enjoy it. Even if you have super oily skin. Or insanely dry skin. I’m sold!
Perfection Lumière will launch in Australia on the 2nd of October, $86
5. Esperanza Spalding is all jazzed up and ready to roll
If you’re yet to hear of Esperanza Spalding, there’s a high chance you will in the coming months, Primpers. This chic is taking over the world, one jazz riff at a time, and is the only jazz musician to ever win a Grammy for Best New Artist (sorry Bieber fans, she stole it from right under his nose). Her latest album, ‘Chamber Music Society’, is the reason most of America has fallen in love with this big haired, small boned woman with a whole lot of soul and some seriously killer vocals. Can’t wait for her next album ‘Radio Music City’ due out here in February.
She’s even on the cover of the New York Times ‘T’ Style Magazine…

Check her out, you’ll fall in love too. I’m sure of it…
Tell me Primpers…
What do you think of these 5 new trends?
Anything take your fancy?
Have you heard of Esperanza Spalding?

That plumgundy bag looks gorgeous! I can totally see myself rocking it! Love the colour.
I’m also quite keen on waiting for the new Chanel foundation, but I have grave doubts that I’ll be able to find a colour that suits me, given that we’ll only be getting six shades…oh well!

I’m a bit confused as to the actual look of the nail trend, any pictures? I think I will still rock my brights anyway, I stocked up on bright OPI shades at the Sydney Beauty Expo in anticipation for summer!
I shall have to go to Myer to check out the Chanel foundations, I’ve seen them but I’m always too nervous to approach given their pricetag and the fact that I always feel bad about not purchasing after a sales assistant gives me their spiel.

I often prefer muted shades of colour on my tootsies preferring to rock bolder colours on my hands so this trend is very in line with my style!
The girls in that particular campaign photo have amazing porcelain like skin, loving their rosy cheeks.
As with the bags – definitely way out of my price bracket but a girl can always admire them, right?
Very excited about the new Chanel foundations and hey lets all remember we can always import the other 17 shades we’re going to miss out on from the internet (thank you technology) if we can’t find our match here, WIN-WIN.
Spalding’s voice i new to me but I am so glad I have now stumbled across her that girl’s got it going onnnnnnnnnnn.
Love this post Yas thanks for bringing us some exciting trends. Hope you didn’t get blown away by Irene x

I have never owned a Chanel foundation but so desperately want to. I will one day. The bags look like a real hit. Love them both. Love the plumgundy name too Yaz ! Never heard of Esperanza. AND…….just yesterday i needed a bit of colour to pick me up and got a rimmel nailpolish – tangerine for half price and decided to paint my toes with it. Now everytime i look at my toes i get a pleasant surprise and burst of colour.!!

Can’t help but have a little giggle at all the toes hanging over the edges of those shoes! These girls need to accept they have bigger feet and go up a size
Posted by: Verity // Tue, 30 August 2011 12:59pm
Hooray for a new line of Chanel foundations. Am annoyed that we’ll only get to see 6 shades IRL, though. Why not supply all 23 in Australia? We pale people always have to source our Chanel foundations from the Internet. boo hoo.

New Chanel foundation, awesome! I also love the handbags.

I do love my brights but can’t go past a nice nude colour for the toes for a nice event, like a cocktail party!
I like a pretty pastel pink, and when I miss my metallics too much I cover it over with a pink metallic colour for a bit more fun!

Absolutely love the Proenza Schouler bag!
I never heard of Esperanza Spalding until your blog, Yaz. She has such a soothing beautiful voice. It’s perfect for this type of jazz.
I’m so looking forward to Chanel’s new Perfection Lumière foundations. Can’t wait!

As a recent convert to Chanel Vita Lumiere (thanks to Zoe’s recommendations), I can’t wait for this new foundation as Vita Lumiere is hard to improve on. It’s amazing!!

I want to try the Chanel foundation. It looks amazing, I wish it wasn’t so expensive though. And I also love the plum coloured bag, gorgeous colour.

Their feet look ridiculous in those shoes, surely they can’t be comfortable? I like their polishes though, esp. the light pink. That Chanel foundation sounds wonderful. I’ve always wanted to try their foundations, and the fact this one is ‘semi-matte’ should mean it’s good for my combo skin.

great post Yaz! i am glad to hear that you are enjoying your holiday. I would love to try the new chanel foundation but I hear it is going to be about 86 dollars, which is more than i can justify on a foundation. sad

That Proenza Schouler bag is a real beauty but i would be scared or marking the suede so the Marc Jacobs would also be a safer choice.
I am surprised that Jessica would even step out of the house with her toes poking out like that, or is that meant to be a fashion statement?

Jess S always has the toe hangover thing going on , I never understand it!
Am gunning to try this Chanel foundation, no other longwear can replace Estee Lauder Double Wear for me, but I wish it had a bit more of a glow factor, so have high hopes for the Chanel!!

So excited about the new chanel foundation. It sounds just about perfect! I will also be bringing out some nude nails this season as well (although I don’t think I could go that long without wearing something bright and fun!). In fact I was just thinking that tonight I might try out the newspaper nails!
