A Review: Day 3: Urban Remedy Juice Cleanse
Wed, 24 March 2010 4:04PM
It’s official, Primpers – I LOVE JUICE. The funny thing is, I’m not usually a juice person, but as I wrap up the final few hours of my Urban Remedy Juice Cleanse, I have to honestly say, I haven’t felt this good since I was at Kylie Minogue’s concert in 2001, dancing to ‘On A Night Like This’. Who ever thought?
Yesterday was meant to be the real toughy. The hump day. The day when I truly started to miss the sensation of chewing and the taste of my favourite Miss Chu Shanghai Pork Dumplings. No such luck, Primpers. I was fine. Seriously.
After work, I took myself off to yoga. Something I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do due to a slight lack of energy, but something I smashed once in the room. Following on from my class, I went home, drank my favourite dinner juice on the planet (please see yesterdays post on that one) and chatted up a storm to Alex, who looked on in amazement at his new, energy-filled girlfriend who wouldn’t shut up. I was literally bouncing off the walls.
By 8:30pm, I’ll admit I was getting a little hungry. I thought about having half an avocado but thought that would be ‘cheating’, even though the little booklet says it’s allowed. However, the hunger passed and I was off to bed. It did take me a while to go to sleep, I’m not sure why or if that’s normal but once I did fall, I was out all night.
Waking up was a real, erm, wake up for me. Usually I slowly and very gingerly arise from bed, waft downstairs (with one eye open), to my pot of green tea early bird Alex has put on for me. Not today, Primpers. Today I opened my eyes at 7am and BING! I was up, bouncing around and feeling amazing. This is a rarity for me and a sign that this cleanse has honestly worked. I really feel great. Weee!
Alright, so I have more energy, that’s for sure and I do feel like my belly bloat has gone and that I may have lost a few kg’s along the way. Awesome bonus! I think the main difference I feel now though, is that I want to KEEP FEELING THIS GOOD. I know I can eat tomorrow, and yes, that’s super exciting, but the thought of having some mad blow-out meal with lots of meat or heavy carbs or preservatives sounds so unappealing. All I crave is fresh, wholesome food that’s packed with vegies and has absolutely no fat at all. Well, the good fat yes but the greasy type of fat, no way.
I also find the thought of dairy really off-putting, I don’t know why that is, either. I’m not a big dairy eater now, but the thought of having a glass of milk or yogurt right now is making me scrunch up my face just thinking about it. Nope, definitely no dairy for me.
Perhaps that’s because all I’ve had for 2.5 days is fruit and vegies, which brings me to my next point, the juice flavours. Now, I have my favourites, that’s for sure. The #6 juice is by far the best for me, it’s packed with raw cashew, coconut milk, agave nectar and cinnamon. Oh yeah! Next in line for fave’s is the #2, which is a delicious blend of pineapple, apple and mint. A treat for anyone with a sweet tooth and absolutely divine.
Here they are (with me looking a little bit high. On life):

For me, #1 and #3 are on par with one another, mainly because they’re very similar. #1, so your first juice of the day, has apple, lemon, cos lettuce, celery, silverbeet, parsley and cucumber in it, while #3 (or your 3rd juice of the day) has carrot, mint, cucumber, cos lettuce, silverbeet, celery and parsley.
Then, at the bottom of my flavour list we have juice #4 and juice #5. Let’s just say that the time between 3pm and 5pm is spent looking forward to dinner, rather than focusing on the now. Juice #4 is a beetrooty type, something I know is really good for you, but something I definitely do not love. Beets’ friends include, carrot, apple, lemon, spirulina and ginger. It’s not unbearable. Not at all. It’s just not a flavour I would choose to have.
And finally, we have juice #5, that’s packed with lemon, water and cayenne pepper. Again, that’s one I suck back pretty quick rather than savour.
So Primpers, that’s it for me and my juice cleanse journey. It’s almost over, only 15 hours and then I’m free to eat whatever I like. I hope this has inspired you all to do a cleanse, too. I know I’ll definitely be doing one again in a few months and it’s so worth not eating solids for a few days to feel like this.
Oh, one more thing I’ve noticed. I think I spend way too much time thinking about food and I probably eat to much too. It’s occurred to me that if I’m not starving after not eating solids since Sunday, how could I possibly be hungry after not eating solids for 2 hours? It’s strange and something I think might be more mental, than physical. So going forward, I’m going to listen to my tummy, not my brain when it comes to meal times and enjoy them even more because of it.
Well, I’m off to relish in my feelings of accomplishment but in the meantime, tell me…
How are you going on your cleanse?
Do you find the same results happened to you?
What about your views on eating, were they similar to mine?
Have I forgotten to mention anything you want to know about?

I really, reaaaallly want to do this cleanse. It’s a little exxy for my poor uni student self, so hopefully in a few months time I’ll be able to.
I agree, I know I overeat and half the time I bet I’m not really hungry, but just think ‘Oh it’s lunch time I ‘should’ eat.

I haven’t even read it yet but just had to point out that my sister in law is currently playing ‘On a Night Like This’ in the other room and you just mentioned it…… so crazy when that happens!
Ok. Back to the juice.

Here’s me throwing out my (limited) nursing student knowledge – you could have been dehydrated? Dehydration makes your energy levels plummet, and apparently when you’re dehydrated you can often mistake it for hunger…

…Because you couldn’t eat and you were getting a heap of fluids, you felt great. Hydrated. Energised. And healthy!
Sounds like your body benefited in more ways than one. I really want to do this cleanse!

Sounds interesting (and somewhat tasty). My iphone currently has ‘on a night like this’ playing. Very spooky!

How interesting! I definitely need a detox. I tried a caffeine detox this past week. I downed four Diet Cokes today, so that’s not going well at all. Maybe something much more strict would whip me into shape!

I really want to try it! Can you get it in brissy?

I’ve been following your posts Yas and loving the inspiration. I’m starting Day 2 of my Level 2 Urban Remedy Cleanse. I felt pretty awesome yesterday – lots of energy, even at 4pm and had a great Yoga class last night and early this morning. Agree, juice 4 + 5 not as spesh as 6! Nice work!!

Congrats Yas! My views are the same as yours on eating so I think it’s a great benefit of the cleanse. I just hope it stays like this for a while! I will be thinking a bit more about my food choices and also making sure I’m really hungry before eating.

I don’t feel as glowy as you describe but that’s probably because I received some bad news at work yesterday which has overshadowed everything a bit. However I’m still not hungry today but looking forward to some fruit & veges. I have also lost 2 kilos!

aargghh I’m up to day 4 now!
I totally agree about appreciating when you’re actually hungry, not just eating for the hell of it.
you’ve been looking very lovely and glowy!

I’m insatiable! I love all sorts of food. Thank God I’m vegetarian as it limits the amount of fast food I can eat. I’ve been on a health kick for the past few months, I’d love to do a cleanse, but I’ve started with a PT and don’t think I can afford both.

I think Urban Remedy should run a free three day cleanse competition. Every girl loves a competition, plus they are a great marketing tool.
