Earthy shades of makeup, I really love you
Wed, 9 February 2011 7:50AM
For just one second there, I almost forgot how insanely special earthy tones of makeup were. Luckily, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams all ditched their favourite bright lipstick and smoky eye shadow in favour of this terracotta-coloured trend, reminding me that when on the red carpet (or at work, at a cocktail party, or even your wedding day) you really shouldn’t cast these shades aside. Should you? Nope, absolutely not.
Here are the ladies at the Oscar Nominations Luncheon, looking ravishing, as always…
First up, we have Michelle and her lovely little pixie crop, fresh skin and autumn-leaf cheek and lip combo. With her eye colour and skin tone, I really feel like these colours warm up her complexion and make her look super, super healthy. Good one!
For this look, I’d recommend applying a bronzey peach shade of bronzer onto your cheeks, and looking for a burnt reddy brown lipstick to match. Some options: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Crazy for Coffee or Cinnamon Stick and L’Oreal Paris Glam Bronze Pressed Powder Golden Cinnamon.
Next up, let’s take a look at Kiddo’s look-alike, Amy Adams…
Our little mate Amy has tied her rich honey-coloured hair into her makeup here. In this light, there are definite red undertones in Amy’s hair, allowing the subtle hint of earthy eye shadow, blush and lip colour to all tie in quite nicely. Don’t you think, Primpers? Yep, me too. The sneaky little trick that Amy has done, however, is apply a black liquid liner to stop her from looking too underdone. In my opinion, it does look a little heavy against the natural makeup, but if you’re into it, you must try Illamasqua’s Precision Ink Liquid Liners. They’re amazing.
Finally, we have new mum, Nicole Kidman looking all very tonal…
Oh Primpers, I love this. Don’t you? For me, I feel that Nicole has achieved what Amy was going for with the tonal hair and makeup and black liquid liner, but somehow managed to make it all tie in a little better. Perhaps it’s the addition of more bronzer around the entire face, warming up her complexion perfectly, or, perhaps it’s just the lighting. Either way, I’m loving Nic’s look here and would highly recommend you try it for yourselves. If you’re into the lips, I’d say Revlon’s Colorstay Ultimate™ Liquid Lipstick in Supreme Sienna would do the trick just perfectly. Hooray!
Tell me Primpers…
Who’s your favourite here?
Are you into the earthy shades of makeup, too?
What products do you recommend?

wow, first two beautiful but I can’t look at NK without feeling sad that she felt she had to alter her face so much.

Earthy makeup always looks great, the person who looks the best here is Michelle.
Nicole just looks weirder as she ages.

Michelle looks absolutely stunning here. Her skin is glowing and she has such beautiful warmth to her. It’s definitely one of the best looks I’ve seen on her!

Nicole is my favourite here, I like that she’s gone back to her natural red hair and it makes her makeup look better.

I hardly think we can ever refer to Nicole as a beauty icon. Drop her of the list, she looks like plastic!

What? You guys, Nicole looks stunning here! I love her makeup. I was pleased to recently hear she has given up that awful Botox. I look forward to seeing her age a little more gracefully. 2nd place goes to Michelle for looking so glowy. Lovely, natural looks on all 3!

ooh Amy Adams has such a genuine smile on. It makes her a lot more attractive! Although she could’ve brightened up her bottom waterline a bit with some light eyeliner

I do love natural tones – I have the UD Naked palette being sent to me as we speak, and I’m looking forward to cracking it open soon to achieve some similar looks.

I think Michelle Williams does natural best – she looks particularly healthy and radiant.

Michelle looks stunning, but so does Nicole, it is a bit hard to compare the two when one is much younger, but each look gorgeous for their age, and I highly doubt you will find too many celebrities that have not bowed down and had anything cosmetically altered by the time they reach their mid thirties, it goes with the territory.

Only thing I noticed with this photo of Nic, she should have invested in a small bottle of clear eyes, must be all those late nights with the new bub catching up with her here, lol.
