My Love Affair With Vogue Turkey; Why You’ll Love It Too

Turkey holds a special place in my heart, Primpers. It’s my father’s homeland, where my mum and dad met and where I got engaged. It also happens to be the land of one of the richest cultures I’ve come across. Istanbul in particular is a bazaar of pure sensory overload. Think pungent smells of spices, sizzling foods and incense; sights of ancient churches turned mosques turned tourists attractions that are so old, you can’t even wrap your head around the numbers and the non-stop noise of cars, buses, people and foreign words shouting across the hustle and bustle.
This magical city also happens to be a hub for the ‘cool’ of the world. International designers, artists and interior types all congregate in this part of the world to sip Turkish coffee and talk ‘cool’ things like history and up-and-coming models and, well, what’s happening next. And while Istanbul is a place packed with fresh imports, none compare to the fabulous Turkish-born Editor-at-Large for Vogue Turkey, Ece Sukan.
Seen wandering around the international shows and a regular on fashion blogs like The Sartorialist, Ece has taken my appreciation for all things Turk to a whole new level. Take a look for yourself…

So, with my love affair with Turkish Vogue already out in the open, imagine my elation when I spotted another drool-worthy female on the cover of their September issue – Natasha Poly. Looking all fresh-faced with her hair blowing in the wind, Natasha has inspired me (and hopefully you) to re-embrace the powder blush this spring. Here’s the cover shot…

Now, I’m going to be really honest with you for a second. I love a magazine cover (really, I do) but I am so inundated with images everyday that they rarely inspire me to try something new. Sure, they’re pretty and aspirational but when it comes time to actually mix up me look…meh…I get lazy.
But this has invigorated me. Here’s why:
- I love me a bold blush. In fact, sometimes I could even be accused of going too hard with the stuff. This resonated with me. Contouring, blending, peachy pink shades…I’m sold. The difference here is that to recreate this look, I need to dig into my supplies and pull out my powder blush. While creme blush has a place, it’s not here.
- Smoky eyes in non-black colours are high on my beauty love list. These taupe-y brown tones are gloriously decadent and even though they’re ideal for winter, I’m going to wear them all summer long.
- The brows! Our resident brow guru, Lien, and I have just written a brow eBook together (more on that later) but since writing about brows in such depth for so long, they’re always top of mind. Here, the brows are bold and well-sculpted, creating a perfect frame for the rest of the face. LOVE!
- The peachy lip and cheek combo. It’s still the standout shade of the season - embrace it.
Tell me Primpers…
