PRIMPED Look Book Wrap Up
Wed, 22 September 2010 1:33PM
As I sit here sipping my Urban Remedy Juice and herbal tea, reminiscing about what I’ve been up to this past month (ahh, the art of procrastination), it occurred to me that I hadn’t done a Look Book Wrap Up post to tie the whole amazing experience up in a bright pink bow and let it loose into the Primperverse. Shit, what a slacker I am, Primpers. So here it is…
As many of you know, the PRIMPED Look Book events wrapped up last Saturday morning at Sydney’s Bondi Junction David Jones. After visiting Melbourne, Sydney City and BJ, it was time for our little meet and greets to come to an end. And as much as I was thrilled to get my weekends and Friday nights back, I must say that I was quite sad to not be able to meet more of you delightful little Primpers. Honestly.
For those of you who weren’t able to attend, this season of PRIMPED meets Primpers ran a little differently. The concept was to bring the top trends in the book alive, so that you not only knew what the trends were, but how to get them, what products you needed to recreate them and any tips and tricks that could make you rock said trend even better. Winner!
Here’s a pic with fellow Primper Peta and her sister in Melbourne…

However, it wasn’t just me standing up there for 45 minutes. I brought some amazingly experienced friends along to help you get the most out of the wealth of information we collectively had in our brains. Here’s what we talked about…
1. Skin Brightening
This seasons biggest skincare trend is SKIN BRIGHTENING, Primpers. Not to be confused with skin lightening, the act of brightening is all about making your complexion even more refined, flawless and, well, bright. We had the lovely girls from True Solutions come up and play, teaching your fellow Primpers what ingredients to look out for (Coffee Berry, Vitamin C and another word that’s really big and complex and has temporarily stepped out of my brain. It will come back, don’t worry). Product picks: Priori CoffeBerry Brightening Complex.
2. Sculpted Skin
When it comes to foundation this season, it’s all about using your fingers to heat the product up before using it to literally sculpt you features. That’s right Primpers, it’s all about using foundation only in the areas that you need it, applying it from the centre outwards and using darker and lighter shades to make areas recede and stand out, like noses or foreheads or chins. We had Kerry from Hissyfit talk about this and she was a cracker at explaining all of the above. Product picks: Hissyfit Saving Face
3. Coppery Shades of Shadow
When it comes to your eye makeup this season, it’s all about using multiple shades of copper and olive green eye shadow to compliment your eyes. As your foundation and lips are quite matte, it’s important to get some shimmer from other areas, like your eyes, Primpers. We had the lovely Jameela from Revlon show you all how to do this, applying the winner of a shadow palette – Revlon ColorStay 12 Hour Eye Shadow Quad in Neutral Khakis, $25.95 – over the upper eyelid and lower lashline. Her tip? Use the right brushes to apply your eye shadow, Primpers, that way you avoid looking ‘punched in the eye’. She used a small angled brush for the lashlines and an eye shadow brush for a upper eyelid.
4. Merlot Red Lips
If there’s one colour we suggest you buy right now, Primpers, it’s a deep red lipstick. It’s all very Mad Men and vintage and while we are talking about what’s happening at the shows right now, and discussing shades of bronze and peach, there’s still an abundance of colour. So you know, it’s trans-seasonal. We had the delightful Laurel from Rimmel show you how to apply this deep red shade of lipstick, as well as sharing her tip of making your lips symmetrical with liner before applying your lipstick. As you’re drawing attention to your lips with a bright shade, Laurel recommends faking non-symmetrical lips with a liner before popping on your colour so you have perfectly even, kissable lips. Wonderful! She used Rimmel Color Show Off Lipstick in Red Fever and Rimmel 1000 Kisses Stay On Lip Liner in Cherry Kiss to make this look come alive.
5. Nearly Nude Nails
The look this season, thanks to shows like Chanel is nearly nude, Primpers. What this is all about is enhancing your natural nail shade and wearing very soft, almost fleshy coloured polishes. They can have a pink tinge or peach tinge, and can be metallic or not, but the colour we saw most of at the shows was nearly nude. Karon from OPI was the professional for all things nails, and she recommended OPI Coney Island Cotton Candy, OPI Samoan Sand and my personal favourite, OPI Sweetheart if you want to recreate this sweet, simply trend. Too easy.
6. Perfectly Polished Hair
With our love affair for Christina Hendricks in full throttle mode, it’s only natural that we proclaim that perfectly polished hair is THE way to go right now. Luckily, we were backed up by our friends at the A/W ’10 shows and it seemed the world wanted women to become ladies again. The divine Gary from Kiehl’s was the man dishing out the hair tips at the events, Primpers, reminding us all to wash our hair with shampoo and conditioner that treats our hair concerns, as well as teaching us how to buff and comb our product through. We’re in the process of putting a video together, Primpers, so I’ll leave it to Gary to explain real soon. Product pick: Kiehl’s Superbly Smoothing Argan Oil Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment.
7. Bespoke Fragrance
And finally, Primpers we just couldn’t let you go without touching on fragrance. This season, it’s all about finding a signature scent that’s perfectly suited to your individual needs. It’s also about using body wash, body lotion and different fragrances to layer your scent and make it last all day. To discuss this beautiful trend, we had our friends at Jo Malone talk you through how to find your signature scent, what fragrances to look for and most importantly, how to apply them and where to keep them. Note: When you rub your wrists together, you bruise the top notes, so it’s best not to do that, and rather than keeping your fragrance in the sun, a cool dry place will make it last longer. Product picks: Jo Malone Red Roses and Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia.
For those of you who attended, let me just say a MASSIVE thank you, Primpers. You were all so sweet and nice and friendly and adorable and it was an absolute pleasure being able to meet you all. I also want to make special mention to the Primpers who attended and blogged about the event. That’s you Ponikuta, Ampersand, BeautyHolicsAnonymous, Inner West Live, Holly Curtis, Cupcakes and Cornrows, Akisa Love and if there’s someone I’ve missed, please let me know.
For those of you who didn’t attend, don’t worry, we’re putting a video together of the event so you can watch the highlights, plus we’re planning many more giveaways in PRIMPED in the next few months so that you can make up for not getting a goodie bag.
So tell me, Primpers…
What did you think of the events this time around?
Do you have any suggestions on what we should change, keep?
What did you think of the goodie bags?
And finally, what did you think of the book itself? If you’re yet to see it, you better rush into DJs before it disappears or download it here if you like.
Did you buy any of the recommended products? If so, what do you think of them?

So much to say & only 300 characters! This format was MASSES better; much cooler to see a transformation on stage and acutally see/hear what was happening. more able to ask questions (altho every1 is usually very shy!).
And I loved the “rake” method the Kiels guy did. Brill!

I loved all the tips (and have already tried some), and the goodie bag was sensational! My friend and I couldn’t believe how heavy the bag was, and we had a great time checking out the contents, like we were kids on Christmas morning. Thank you SO much!
