RAFW 2011: Top Five Beauty Looks

Mon, 9 May 2011 10:56AM

And…that’s a wrap! The show’s over! Nothing to see here!

Actually, that’s a lie. There’s plenty to see here, Primpers, because Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2011 brought us plenty of copyable, fun hair and makeup options that deserve a little bit more attention. Especially these top 5 beauty looks that I wanted to steal for myself the second I saw them. Hooray!

This year, I was impressed to see far less ‘inspiration’ coming from the international shows, and far more creative influence coming from the clothes. The result was a delicious blend of artistic, but beautiful, looks that we all should try immediately.

And, on that note, allow me to introduce you to my top 5 beauty looks from RAFW, Primpers…

5. Kevin Murphy’s sewn up hairstyle at White Suede

Inspired by the phrase, ‘anyone for tennis?’ this delightfully wearable, yet inspirationally different hairstyle caught my eye immediately, Primpers. The texture, shape and adorable finish is something I definitely want to give a go, and for that, it secures a place on my Top 5 list today. Good one!

4. Clint Dowdell’s artistic makeup at Lisa Maree

Working with Nude By Nature makeup, Clint created two different makeup looks for the show. The first, was all about shedding your skin, with snake-like motives on the model’s faces adding some glitz to all the fresh, glowing face and nude lips. The second look was a deep smoky eye that worked perfectly against the feathers and the birds and the craziness of the props for the show.

Notable mention also needs to go to Maria Ardino, who created two sexy hairstyles in the form of clean ponytails, and wet-look, ‘just-popped-out-of-the-pool hair’. Love this!

3. Liz Kelsh’s orange lips at Yeojin Bae

It’s the makeup shade putting red to rest, and this season, we saw a flurry of orange lips taking centre stage. My pick of the week is this delightful poppy shade at Yeojin Bae’s show, created by makeup artist Liz Kelsh, using M.A.C LipMix in Orange. For some Primpers, the thought of wearing orange lipstick is a little terrifying, but I can assure you that there is a shade to suit you. You just have to find it. Be it true orange, or a coral take on the trend, it’s worth investing in, Primpers. Trust me.

2. Joh Bailey’s stunning plaits at Talulah

I can imagine creating a hairstyle with three different textures is about as easy as staring at a chocolate brownie and not eating it. Impossible, clearly (unless you’re a chocolate hater, in which case I can imagine it would be simple.) Anyway Primpers, Joh did, in fact, create this delightful hairstyle that was crimped, braided and even curled a little, proving that with all these different looks going on, you can’t lose. For me, this is an absolute delight, and something I want to take away and play with right now. Winner!

1. Jon Pulitano’s ‘Wanderful’ creation for Alice McCall

Our fascination with the Cloud Nine Wand came full circle last week, primarily due to this soft, girly, pretty hairstyle created for the Alice McCall show. Jon Pulitano cleverly created a style that was all party at the front AND party at the back. Awesome!

The makeup was also soft, pretty and fresh, with bold brows and nude lips playing off against the soft pink blush. Combine all these looks together, and you get best in show. For me, anyway.

Tell me Primpers…

What’s your look of the week?

Which of these looks do you like?

Do you dislike any of these looks?

My favourite so far is Jon Pulitano’s creation for Alice McCall, the dresses were fabulous, I love the makeup and the hair is so soft and feminine.

My fave of these is the ‘Wanderful’ creations of Jon Pulitano and Alice McCall. I like all of the looks but personally wouldnt wear the orange lip or the ‘tennis anyone?’ soft rolled up mohawk.

Looks like plaits are in!! Love it and so easy to copy. Don’t really like the first look I don’t think I’d be brave enough to pull it off!

Orange lipstick look was great in the past and still great but it does take some getting used to and seems to work better on certain hair and skin shades…I like all the looks except Pulitano’s outfit somehow makes me knit my eyesborws in confusion, it just doesn’t go with the model wearing it, looks out of shape and while the model is attractive, neither the dress or the model do each other justice!

Clint McDowell’s is definitely best, not to keen on the others though!

I’m not really a lipstick girl but I have invested in a coral/orangey shade because I love the look, have worn it a few times and loved it!

An orange lip is always going to get a BIG tick from me! And I love Alice McCall’s show too. Hair, dress, everything! Look 5 (white suede) is a bit too faux- hawky for me!
