Sweet Treats! The Best Sugary Beauty Buys

Candy. Lolly. Sweetie. Taffy. Pop. I don’t judge. I love a sucrose fix by any spankin’ name you want to bestow upon it.
Sugar is my middle name – which makes it kinda creepy and Southern sounding on my passport – so in the quest to keep up the addiction in a healthier form, I have uncovered a loophole in my lolly lovin’ life.
It’s sugar beauty, Primpettes, and here are a few reasons you should dip into it. Sweet!
Sugar is old-school: It’s been used since before the invention of the (Wagon) wheel. For centuries sugar has been called on as a wonderful exfoliant and in ancient Rome it was lathered on lips and other dry parts of the body to draw moisture into the area. See, it’s actually as hydrating as it is exfoliating so there are plenty of products now that cleanse and moisturise consecutively, thanks to their sugar component. These days, adapted sugar molecules in the form of glycolic acid and lactic acid (milk sugar) have revolutionised skin smoothing products since the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Sugar is sweet (on the skin): Sugar is gentler on the skin than many physical exfoliants, making it a perfect ingredient for facial scrubs and those with sensitive skin. When dissolved in water, sugar creates a viscous liquid that holds hydration in skin for longer, so it’s also has powerful plumping and smoothing properties.
Sugar is slimming: Rather than adding kilos, a good sugar body scrub can buff them off by stimulating the skin and getting the circulation going, leaving your summer silhouette a little more svelte.
Sugar can be one slippery sucker: If you’re exfoliating with a sugar-based product, make sure your skin is damp – but not dripping wet. Sugar dissolves in water so it’s best applied and worked into skin that isn’t too slippery.
