Video: Five Of The Best… Superfood-Inspired Beauty Buys
Fri, 7 September 2012 8:35AM
It’s no secret that I love a good superfood. Especially when my skincare philosophy is that you feed your skin from the inside out; nourishing it with goodness through a healthy, wholefood diet, lots of water and more antioxidants than you’ll find in the Amazon rainforest.
If, like me, you get excited by the mere mention of words like chia, spirulina, oats, ginseng and goji, you’ll be thrilled to learn that beauty brands are catching onto the benefits of these wonder ingredients. This week, I take you through five of the best beauty products packed with superfoods.
Here’s the video…
And here are the notes…
1. Perricone MD Chia Serum, $112 – available at www.meccacosmetica.com.au

As the name suggests, this serum contains chia seed oil to transform dull, lifeless skin into a healthy work of art.
2. Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation, $39.90 – available at www.ereperez.com and countrywide through independent pharmacies and health food stores
This all-natural, vegan foundation uses the healing benefits of oats to give skin a soft, creamy finish. The formula is light-weight and glides on like a dream, subtly covering imperfections. It’s also a winner on sensitive skin types, too.
3. Ella Bache SpiruLines Intensive Wrinkle Plumper, $59 - for stockists call 1800 789 234 or visit www.ellabache.com.au
I adore spirulina. In fact, I have it in my smoothies with kefir, coconut, raw cocoa and almonds most mornings. Now, I can slather in on my skin thanks to this new range from Ella Bache, which harnesses the magical properties of this microorganism. With 220 life-essential elements in spirulina, including 70% protein, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, peptides and fatty acids (all amazing things for anti-ageing), this range literally feeds your skin until it’s full of goodness.
4. Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Edition, $42 – available at www.meccacosmetica.com.au
This lipstick come lip gloss uses goji berry extract to provide the lips with antioxidant protection. Other ingredients ingredients include vitamin A, C and E to nourish and protect a parched pout, while the formula is long-lasting and super pigmented. Give it a go, Primpers.
5. Origins GinZing Brightening Mascara to Lengthen & Lift, $26 -available at www.meccacosmetica.com.au

The Origins GinZing range contains ginseng and this brightening, lifting and lengthening mascara is the latest addition to the collection. Try it on limp lashes to enhance your eyes, lengthen stumpy lashes and add even more zing to your day!
Tell me Primpers…

LOL. The ginseng mascara sounds like a gimmick. If you’re not ingesting it, pretty sure it won’t have any benefits. Specially considering it’s only coating your lashes, not even skin, and the prod must contain waxes, oils, other stuff. So even if theoretically there *WAS* some benefit to coating lashes in the herb (snigger), it’s rendered ineffective due to the other stuff.

I’d love to try the Chia Serum….it’s a superfood that I add to all my meals (practically) so it would be impressive on the skin.

Is the Perricone Chia serum any different to the Super by Perricone Chia serum? Because the super one is heaps cheaper.

Great question, Meig. I’ve asked the girls at Mecca and they’ve told me that the Perricone line at Mecca is much more high end and very active/results based. The Chia Serum has had a lot more clinical studies and a higher concentration of ingredients such as Retinyl Palmitate and Vitamin E.
The Super Line sold at Kit Cosmetics is an introductory line to Perricone and is a more simple, light weight serum focusing on key ingredients.
Hope that helps,
Yx
