Video: The Weekly Brush Up
Fri, 4 May 2012 9:56AM
From nail trends at Fashion Week to the woman who reportedly subjected her 6-year-old red-headed child to a tanning bed, this is The Weekly Brush Up.
Can’t watch the video just yet? Here’s the rundown…
1. Do you have frizzy hair? Can’t seem to tame those flyways? ME TOO! Until I started using Kerastase Fibre Architecte, $49.50. Seriously, Primpers, this is one $50 worth investing in. It rebuilds damaged hair and makes frizz just disappear. There’s science behind it, but let’s face it, all we care about is if it actually works. And it does!
2. OPI are launching a new range of lacquers to coincide with the new Spiderman movie coming out in June. The range is on sale on the 13th of May and it’s all metallic and fun and spidery. My pick is Just Spotted The Lizard, which is wild and looks like this…

3. This week, Fashion Week has monopolised our beauty coverage so I’m not going to touch on it too much. That said, one of the biggest trends coming through was perfectly wearable nude, sandy, putty tones that I personally love. Ellery’s caramely, soft-yellow toned nails stole the show for me, proving that muted tones can, in fact, be fun. Next week, Ellery’s range of nail wrap patterns will hit ASOS, so stay tuned for that.

4. It’s the news that’s sparked international outrange and reflared the fire on tanning beds. A New Jersey woman is being charged with allegedly subjecting her 6-year-old daughter to regular tanning sessions. The woman apparently goes to the salon every second day for her 12-minute sessions, clearly not deterred by the risk of skin cancer. My opinion is, not shockingly, that this woman needs her head examined, but more importantly, I want to know what you think. Here’s the visual so you can see the terrifying effects (and her poor daughter, whose skin should not be anywhere near one of these death traps). What do you think about this? Appalling, or not so bad?

5. And finally, let’s talk about Cameron Diaz’s hair. The star revealed on The Tonight Show that she burst into tears when she recently cut her hair short. The gorgeous celeb stated, “It was one of those moments, I couldn’t … I just started bursting into tears. I felt so vulnerable. For a woman to all of a sudden have no hair, oh my God! … [My friend] felt really bad. I felt really bad. She started crying. I started crying.”
Hey, we’ve all been there, Cam. Now Primpers, it’s your turn to spill the beans on your hair horrors. Have you ever burst into tears over a haircut? I know I have.

Can’t wait to read your thoughts.
See you all next week,
Yaz xx

There is something wrong with that woman who goes tanning all the time. She needs help. I am not surprised that there are concerns for her daughter. I mean, a daughter looks up to her mother, uses her as a role model. If your mother looks like a leather boot, then what kind of message is that sending?!
Yes I’ve cried over a bad hair cut! Way back in my teens. But I’m about to go from long hair to a lob tomorrow and I can’t wait!

I LOVE the look of that OPI colour, it’s something I’d term ‘ugly gorgeous’!
I think that woman is horrifying…she looks dreadful and it’s unconscionable for a mother to expose her child to that sort of thing.
I’ve definitely cried over a bad hair cut, but it was probably about ten years ago. Yes, it’s hair and it will grow, but on the other hand, it’s a long while to live under a hat until it grows out!
SMP, I’d love to see a photo of your new look! I wish we could post photos on Primped! Good luck for the big chop!

Hey Yaz, loving the idea of Kerastase, will definately be investing in that. Not a huge fan of nail polish cause I am too lazy.
Is that woman stupid??????? She looks like a freak for one, and what a terrible thing to teach and subject your child to. Child services should step in here.
Poor Cam, I felt every bit of her pain. When I was six my mum gave me a bowl cut because I had nits and it devastated me. A neighbour actually thought I was a boy, and I am sure it has scarred me to this day. I find it very hard to get my hair cut, always saying “not too much, just a little trim”. LOL

I recently had a bit of a bad hair mishap! A hairdresser left the Hi-Lift around my hairline on too long, causing my hairline to turn a bright shade of lilac! The thing that was the most annoying was the fact that both the hairdresser and the owner of the business didn’t say anything about it.
It took me four, double shampoo, hard scrubbing washes to get the tint of lilac out. Needless to say I am scarred!

Haha, I think every female has cried over a bad haircut at some point in their lives! I did that a lot when I was younger…
I must admit that I now find yellow nail polish off-putting since seeing Seal sporting yellow nail polish on ‘The Voice’… *shudder*

Yas i was just looking at that polish yesterday online, though its alot more tempting in real life, basically like the chanel peridot, a very gorgeous chrome finish.

Wow you have me sld on te Kerastase, the best next thing I’ve tried was the Kerastase Ciment Theramique which sort of did all you described so this one sounds interesting.
Tanorexia – that is what that crazy lady has, she’s not well!

How could someone go to a tanning salon every second day! That OPI colour is really wild!

I cant believe that woman thinks she looks good…that is not a tan…thats called major skin damage and its ugly.
When i was in high school my Mum decided to perm my hair. I thought i would have lovely sweet curls. NO…i ended up looking like the mega frizzy version of Nicole Kidman.
The talk of the school was my hair and how bad it was.
It took so long to grow out so that i could cut all that horrible perm out and start again.
My Mum still insists that my hair looked lovely….eck.

I remember when I was in primary school, and my mum still gave me haircuts. She cut my hair as short as my ear lobes and I burst into tears when I found out!

I am LOVING your stories. I decided I wanted boy short hair when I was about 8 and for the next 3 or so months, I had people asking my mum how old her little ‘boy’ was. Umm, even when I was wearing super girly clothes. Worst experience of my life. So glad I’m not alone on this one. Yx

Oh Yaz I did the same, but I was in Year 8 at high school when I decided to cut my hair boy short. It took me about 3 years to properly grow it out and it was awful! Never again, I’m sticking with the lob from now on.

I’ve always grew my hair long and it has never been above my shoulders, except in my younger years.

i know, that over tanned woman is a total freak, she should totally have her innocent little girl taken away from her, asap! I’ve been upset with hair cuts, sure, but i’ve never cried over one, it’s just hair, it grows back.
