Before Spring Hits, Warm up With These Winter-Inspired Beauty Buys

Who’s that knocking at the door? Could it be? Yes it is! It’s Little Miss Spring! She’s woken from hibernation, thrown a few cocktails and a crochet bikini in her backpack, and is heading our way.

Soon, apparently.

In the interim, Old Man Winter is still kicking stones around the streets, huffing and puffing his chilly winds and dropping his icy stare on anyone who dares look to the heavens.

But it’s not all bad.

Winter is a great time to indulge in healthy, heart-warming beauty products with heavenly scents and historical beauty benefits that are simply smokin’. And what better way to keep your body buzzing on the inside too, than matching it with a healthy drop (before those cocktails actually do come calling.)

Peppermint

Peppermint contains antiseptic properties and can have a calming effect on the body. Unlike other wintery ingredients though, peppermint can have an uplifting effect because it can improve blood circulation, which in turn, warms up the body.
Slather on: Burt’s Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion, $24.95, from department stores
Sip on: Planet Organic Peppermint Tea, $4.06, Planet Organic

Vanilla

Vanilla has a heavenly smell for starters but one that can seem a bit heady in summer, making it perfect for now. It also contains soothing elements that reduce inflammation and tension in the circulation system. Vanilla has also been found to relax the mind.
Surrender to: MOR Emporium Candle in Candied Vanilla Almond, $39.95, MOR Cosmetics
Sip on: T2 Madagascan Vanilla Tea, $12.75, T2 tea

Ginger

Ginger is my new BFF. My gorgeous mother-in-law brewed me a pot of honey and ginger tea (i.e. a slice of ginger + drop of honey + hot water) on the weekend and I am addicted. Super calming and delicious to boot! Topically, ginger can decrease inflammation that leads to redness and breakouts and it also works as an antioxidant, so it’s not a fan of letting your skin age.
Scrub on: Natio Spa One-Minute Miracle Body Polish, $18.95, from Myer
Sip on: my recipe. Or one from MasterChef’s Julie Goodwin

Carrot

Carrot seeds and roots contain powerful circulation and elasticity boosters. These orange crusaders also help to prevent the formation of wrinkles and go to work on repairing the damage that has already been done. Champions in vitamin A and E, carrots (along with their fresh mates celery and ginger) make a mean juice. Mean, I tell ya!
Smooth On: Yes to Carrots Softening Facial Mask, $23.95, from Priceline
Sip: Urban Remedy Cleanse, Urban Remedy

Amber

Amber takes the cake for winter scents, says “me”. You can literally see the warmth of its golden hue when you smell it. Musky and rich, it also evokes honey notes and is often found in woody perfumes and candles.
Spritz On: Tom Ford Private Blend Amber Absolute, $290, from select David Jones
Sip: Rustic Teas Citrus Amber, $9.70, Rustic Teas

Will you give winter scents and skincare a final go before spring arrives?

I wish the Tom Ford – Amber wasn’t so expensive. I’d love to try it, it sounds mouth-watering.
