Congested Much? Skincare To Beat The Heat
Mon, 14 December 2009 1:57PM
As I sit here waiting for my morning coffee to kick in I absentmindedly run my fingers across my forehead and realise that I am really very much annoyed with my skin. After living the best part of the last decade in air conditioning my skin has suddenly gone into what I can only refer to as a complete ‘spaz attack’. I took the quiz. Little bumps and itchy lumps are appearing everywhere. Thing is, I have fairly dry and sensitive skin so a lot of the blemish control products make me feel like my face is on fire. Here are some products that work for me. With a preference towards natural. And as Zoe says…’Strayan.
Toning
When summer skin is layered with a serum / moisturiser / primer / tinted sunscreen and makeup, a good oil cleanse and tone will work like a paint scraper on Duluxe Base Coat. And if you do have oily skin, remove the oil cleanser with your normal cleanser afterwards (Tip: a warm face cloth will help remove residue). The toner will then remove that last bit of stubborn dirt. My faves are Nude Cleansing Oil, $100, The Antipodes Resurrect Facial Toner, $49.95, Ker’trae Daily Cleansing Cream, $21.95 and Cetaphil: the quiet champion.
Exfoliating
Essential to ramp up the frequency in summer. Once a week at the very least. Some faves of the moment: The Jojoba Company Bead & Bamboo Facial Exfoliant, $34.95, Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator, $48.95 and Thalgo Terre & Mer Marine Scrub, which is available at Salons.
Micro-dermabrasion
The mother of exfoliation. Dermo-peel treatments using acids will improve texture, eradicate zits and achieve radiance. Suitable for both oily and dry skin if your wallet can take the beating. My faves? MD Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel, $210. MD Formulations My Personal Peel System, $155.00 (from Adore Beauty) or Murad Intensive Resurfacing Peel, $180(from The Skincare Store). Santa? These peels can be used on a daily basis although you can really stretch it out to as long as once a month and the kit will last you a lot longer.
Soothing
I have recently discovered MooGoo MSM (Organic Sulfur) Soothing Cream. OMG it’s incredible. My itchy inflamed skin is instantly calmed. It also contains Allantoin and Aloe Vera. And the Honey makes it smell scrummy. It’s $24.95 from www.moogoo.com.au. I plan to dedicate an entire blog to MSM Soothing Cream. Totally deserved.
Lighten up on the moisturising
I love my Korres Thyme Honey Moisturising Mask, $46, but I switch to its pomegranate counterpart in the warmer weather. Or smooth on Cosmedicine Triple P Serum instead. The texture is A-MAZING and it behaves like a primer too. Another blog worthy product. $94.95 from Kit Cosmetics.
Blemish Zappers
Anything with a bit of salicylic works reasonably well for me. Although, quite frankly I’ve not had much luck with blemish zappers. I am open to suggestions?
What “warm weather/congestion is my enemy products” work well for you?

Ultraceuticals Ultra Clearing Gel is fab for breakouts. I apply it to the entire area (i.e. hormonal chin) or just individual spots and it really helps clear them. Not drying either which is nice.

thanks Amanda, will try that one. Me thinks the absentmindedly running my hand across my forehead isn’t helping..

i also love moo goo products..! i discovered them because my husband has severe psoriasis (all over his body) and i have dry sensitive skin. in addition to the msm cream, i can highly recommend the oil cleanser (dry skin) and the anti ageing cream… the psorasis balm is great for reducing the swelling, itching and soreness of psoriasis and other skin conditions
