Do You Have a Facial Uniform?

Fri, 29 January 2010 3:04PM

Yesterday I flounced purposely into Mecca Cosmetica knowing full well that I would; a) Spend 15 minutes applying ridiculous amounts of products to the back of my hand and sniffing them more than what is necessary b) spend another 15 minutes chatting excitedly to the assistant on products that we are just loving SICK. c) proceed to purchase various beauty items I absolutely need. Now. This minute. Namely, Ellis Faas Creamy Lips $52AUD and Nars Blush in Deep Throat $62AUD.

So when I arrived home and opened my Nars Blush I realised that it looks deceptively similar to my Cargo blu_ray blush/highlighter. The opalescence is similar except the blu_ray is slightly paler and more powdery. Anyway, enough with my analysis paralysis, my point is, I seem to be gravitating towards and buying almost the same colours. And yes, I know, when you know what suits you, onto a good thing and all that felafel. But am I becoming a one look Wendy? Pink blush, brown eyeshadow, pinky/nude lips is my facial uniform.

Thank God I bought the Ellis Faas Creamy Lips. Broke the mould with than one. And I don’t mean green slimy stuff. I quite exceptionally love this colour which is extremely similar to all those red pouts sported at Globey Waggy ceremony thingies recently. Glides on easily all creamy goodness, and has some MEGA colour staying power. I had to use makeup remover to scrub it off the back of my hand. Oh and its glossy but not overly glossy. Oh, go and try it. I’m done explaining.

Looks like this on me. But better. No really. No one is better than Cate.

Do you have a facial uniform? And how do you break out of this vicious cycle? Suggestions? Nice? Let me add another question mark?

Find a celebrity with similar features, hair colour and skin tone and COPY away. Xerox make fabulous copies. And use those ‘Get This Look’ articles. Zoe and Yaz know their banana skins from their bronzers.

Experiment with different eye shadows you wouldn’t normally combine and try blending your existing lip colours together. Green with gold? Who’d have thunk?

Rather than wearing the same makeup with different outfits day in, day out change the makeup to suit the outfit. Harder to do if you’re working in the suited world but a bright business shirt can be complimented with a pop of colour up top.

Stop women in the streets and ask them what they are wearing. You may also become known as that freak that stops women in the streets. But hey, sacrifices need to be made.

Change your skin colour. Not in a Michael Jackson way. But a fake tan can result in a makeup adjustment. Shimmers as opposed to pink blush for the un-dead.

How do you mix it up?

I am in desperate need of a make up mix up!
Have decided this week is going to be a Slight Makeover Week. (Baby steps, okay!)
Thanks for the subtle push in the right direction :)

Oh I am such a victim of the Facial Uniform. I hang my head in shame! It’s always bronzer, lashings of Lancome mascara, and peachy/pink lips. Right then, tomorrow the MAC lipstick is coming out!
    Thanks, Yvette!
