Don’t even think about tinting your brows before reading this.

Hello Primpers. I’m back and eager to tackle the widely neglected topic of Brow Tinting.
So for all my lovely Primpers with disappearing or thin-pin brows, please listen up! You may not like what I have to say but I have to be cruel (just an expression, of course) to be kind.
So…is this your dilemma?
You suffer from light brows or over-plucked brows that are in desperate need of some brow volume. Your quick fix is to have them tinted by your brow lady. Once tinted, your brows are temporarily darkened and appear fuller. Within a few days, the tint fades and then your back in the same cycle again. Sounds familiar?
You may be surprised with this revelation. Out of all my beautiful clients, I only offer brow tinting to about 8 clients. Unless they are the perfect candidates for brow tinting, I have no hesitation in declining their request. Instead, I offer personalised brow solutions for their specific brow concerns.
4 Great reasons not to tint
- Unless your brows are in great shape to start with, tinting will only exaggerate imperfections, especially with rounded or tadpole-looking brows.
- On thin brows, tinting only temporarily stains the skin to create the illusion of fuller brows. In a week or so when the stain fades from the skin, you’re left with darker brows (still thin) which can look quite harsh, especially against pale skin.
- There’s a real art to tinting. If done inconsistently the brows can appear heavy looking at the front with disappearing tail ends. In other words, you will have short, stubby-looking brows.
- On fair, thick brows, tinting can make them appear bushy and unkempt.
3 Great reasons to tint:
- If you’re fair. A good tint job will define the brow shape and naturally frame your face. A perfect example is Gwyneth Paltrow.
- If your brows are your ‘thing.’ A brow tint will easily enhance their shape. My favourite example is Rachael Taylor with her strong brows that give her an air of confidence and sex appeal.
- It’s ideal for holidays, when you need the definition, but don’t want to deal with the fuss of brow products.

I don’t tint my brows because they are dark but I use tools to have them more defined. I also get my brows done with Lien every 6-8 weeks:)
My favourite brow product must be the gel which sets them in place. But the definition pencil + brush comes a close second.

Yeah, whatever. If people want to tint their eyebrows, they can tint their eyebrows. What a load of bull this article is.

The BEST thing for plumping up eyebrows is Rapid Lash. I get it from Priceline. It’s a serum for eyelashes and brows and I’ve found it works really well for me.

Great tips! I’ve only started tinting my brows this year and makes such a difference, I’ve received so many compliments since I’ve started doing it! I also find (as a fair skinned blonde) I look less like a ghost without make up on, and just gives my face a better framed look.

Great information thanks. What do you suggest is best when you really need definition but the brows are thin AND sparse? I love getting mine tinted, it takes years off my face but it does stain the skin. Thanks for any suggestions.

Of course there’s always a safe and efficient way to get back those over plucked 90′s brows! Amplif•eye by Xtreme Lashes® has worked for me! http://www.xtremelashes.com.au/cosmetic_product.php

I agree with SuzyQ, rapid lash is amazing for brows! It’s made such a difference with mine and I was very sceptical as to whether it would actually do anything. Will definitely be purchasing again. Am keen to give brow tinting a go as I love the results I’ve seen on other people.

I’ve never tinted my eyebrows but I have tinted my eyelashes and had good results. I am interested in eyebrow tinting though and because I’m fair I may be a good candidate.

My brows are pretty much black so I don’t think I’ll ever need to tint them.

I think it’s got a lot to do with the colour of your hair. Light eyebrows and dark hair looks a little…wrong, as does the opposite.

I have fair eyebrows and lashes – I look like an alien without mascara or my brows coloured in. I have a fab brow lady who literally reshaped my face! It’s amazing how much a difference brows make. I’m a fan of the benefit wax and powder combo, though I’m almost out – any other brow products you primpers like??

My eyebrows are naturally dark but I think I would probably tint them if they weren’t.

I’ve never tinted my brows but I have seen a few tinted brows here and there that look pretty good.

very good tips!!
my mum has recently discovered that her eyebrows are disappearing. it doesn’t sound like tinting is actually a very good option. is there anything else she can do or is it just one of those age things you just have to live with?

very happy not to tint my eyebrows, i think i could stuff it up too easily…. happy with my Benefit Brow Kit, that way I can fill in my brows if I want to make them stronger, or just neaten them up with highlighter….

Is there a permanent brown tint for eyebrows they are beginng to go grey and stand out like anything!

Good article and makes sense.
I dont tint – dark eyebrows anyway but good article for anybody interested. I agree with Becca – my favourite brow tool is brow gel as well followed by brow brush… perfect brows all day/night long!

Luckily, I don’t need to tint my brows but I’m sure these tips will be helpful to others

I have been recommended before to get a brow tint because I have very light brown and slightly sparse eyebrows. If only I had more time and money.
