Milan A/W ’12: Pucci’s Braidy Ladies

Hands up who loves a braid right now?
Ah yes, you over there, Dianna Agron, we can see that you do.
And you, Kirsten Dunst. Excellent plait work from you.
No longer the domain of milkmaids and schoolgirls, braids are being spotted atop the most stylish of celebs and the most immaculate of models. The red carpet and the runway, it seems, are trading perfectly coiffed updos and faultless blowdries for loose, slightly unkempt, Heidi-esque weaves. Amen to that, we say, gaily tossing aside our hairdryers.
So concurred hair director, Luigi Murenu, backstage at the Pucci show, describing his plaited ‘dos as “slightly Germanic, but more modern.” He used colour-matched hair extensions to create a headband-style braid that secured flowing strands away from models’ faces.
A small round of applause for Signor Murenu please, everyone, for fashioning what we reckon is going to be one of the most emulated hair looks of the season. It has everything: subtlety (from the sweet centre-part, plait combo); sexiness (thanks to the tousled texture at the back, created with the help of John Freida Luxurious Volume Mousse, $15.99); and, of course, sass – this was the Pucci show, after all
We’re sold. Dianna and Kirsten are, too. Are you?
