Want Perfect Brows? It’s All About Threading…

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: deliciously decadent and decidedly hot. Shopping Malls that stay open until midnight and car parks filled with Mercedes. 6 Star hotels charging outrageous entry fees just for a look and a completely man made island in the shape of a palm tree. Image conscious much? Consequently, during my 8 years living in Dubai I discovered that these women know how to work what mamma gave them. In a glamourous non ghetto way.
And with all that glam comes a hefty chunk of upkeep. Needless to say, your French mani/pedi, haircut, facial, waxing treatments et al are booked well in advance, with the advantage of prices comparable, if not cheaper than in Australia. But there is one beauty treatment that I really ought to tell you all about, one that I picked up in Dubai and that I am now a complete and absolute fan of. And I mean WORSHIP. Eyebrow threading. The eyes have it baby. And threading will achieve a clean line and great shape like no other.

Threading is thought to have originated in Turkey and is an ancient method of hair removal. It is done by twisting cotton thread then rolling it along the surface of the skin. The hairs are entwined in the thread and lifted quickly from the follicle. Yes it does hurt (a little). But the benefits totes outweigh the slight discomfort. Watch this CNN eyebrow threading special on YouTube. Note, since there is no product applied to the skin threading is suitable for irritable skin, or for those on acne medication.
Just to prove how awesomely fantastic I think threading is, here are my Before Threading and After Threading pictures…

Me after threading. Browtastic.

Me before threading. Yikes. Ya See!
So now you are thinking, ‘where can I get this new threading treatment because Yvette is THE beauty geek and i must do as she says?’ Loads of salons in major cities provide threading services, particularly the ones catering to the Asian (Indian) clientele. Google. Now. What’s more, threading can cost as little as a tenner. Doesn’t get any better than that. Unless its free but that’s just crazy talk.

Wow!! Your eyebrows are… incredibly perfect. *envy* Do you trim them as well? I’m always apprehensive about the trimming prospect. Like, what if they end up too sparse? Eeep!

Your eyebrows are amazing!!! mine are so flat and cant get a good shape from them because i destroyed them in highschool. Should i try threading? Magic maybe!

Hi loopylexy, yup they have been trimmed at the top to get that perfect straight line, but I have NEVER attempted to do it myself! I am a shocker. Even just plucking in between salon visits gets me into deep trouble and i tend to overpluck my left brow (wierd..no idea why). I recommend getting to pro’s to do it…There is all this techno mumbo jumbo about angles and where the brow starts and ends in relation to the eye behind it all…!

Hi PrettyLover. The good thing about threading is that you can be a lot more accurate, and you wont overpluck. You can also achieve a more defined line. So this might be better for you. In between salon visits I usually just pluck the stray hairs that come up quite away from the brow. That way i know i won’t go a bit plucking crazy. …put the tweezers down and step away from the mirror!

I learned to thread my eyebrows myself… It is also great for the upper lip… If you learn to do it yourself you will save a lot of money!

Threading is amazing. There are a couple of places in Paddington but they are tres pricey ($45!!!) there is a place in the city where its $25 (miki something or other but she only had the threading lady in one day a week) and one in North Sydney ( Face First – my latest find) which is also $25. Again – AMAZING!
