2011 MTV Movie Awards: Kristen Stewart and Leighton Meester show dove eye shadow some love

Dove grey eye shadow was one of the prettiest trends to come off the A/W ’11 runways. Why? Well, this particular hue does a mean job of making your eyes leap out of your head, is sexy and ‘done’ but not too heavy for day (if you apply it lightly) and is not the slightest bit scary for those who find a heavy smoky eye somewhat daunting. Yep, it’s an ace colour indeed.

No wonder it showed its lovely face at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, huh? Oh yeah.

DOVE GREY EYE SHADOW WEARER NO.1: Kristen Stewart

WHAT’S ACE ABOUT THIS LOOK: Goodness, where on earth did all that volume come from? Kristen’s hair is HUGE. The colour is also absolutely stunning (a little desserty, when you think about it), and even though her strands have a matte textured finish, it looks like she’s been giving them lots of deep conditioning love. I’m impressed.

The eyes, Primps, are equally as brilliant as her hair. She really hasn’t applied too much product, but this dove grey hue is making her green eyes positively pounce out the computer screen. She’s taken the colour across her entire lid – and underneath the lashes, as well – which creates a lovely frame around her eyes, defining them in a subtle way. Her lashes have just the right amount of flutter, too. They’re obvious and long, but in no way over the top. I love it. If I could change one teeny tiny thing, however, I’d dab a little bit of baby pink crème blush onto the apples of her cheeks to give her a lovely fresh flush. (Yes, I’m a little picky.)

DOVE GREY EYE SHADOW WEARER NO.2: Leighton Meester

WHAT’S ACE ABOUT THIS LOOK: Before we get to the makeup, I need to jump in and say I’m not overly enjoying LM’s hair. Yes, she’s lightened it, and yes, she can certainly pull off blonder locks (it is her natural colour, after all), but it just looks a little scraggly to me. (Sorry, I’m being fussy again. But when you compare Leighton’s strands to Kristen’s, the difference in hair condition is obvious.)

In terms of LM’s makeup, I adore it. She may have dropped the ball a little lately, but this nude lip + defined eye combo is immaculate. She’s taken black eye liner around her entire inner rims for extra punch, but to keep her eyes looking wide-awake and fresh, she’s applied a white goldy hue to her inner v’s and concentrated the grey eye shadow tight along her lash line, applying more colour to the outer edges. It’s brilliant. Oh, and I love the peachy gold shimmery finish of her lips, too. It makes for a pretty contrast against her somewhat matte skin.
