Diamond Jubilee Beauty Special: Cult British Beauty Buys, Plus WIN a Rimmel London Prize Pack!

Tue, 5 June 2012 11:57AM

Here at PRIMPED HQ today, I’ve got a case of the warm and fuzzies. Similar to that feeling I had when Wills and Kate tied the knot a little over a year ago. This time it’s for the Queen, celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this week, and boy have they been busy celebrating over in Ol’ Blighty. And if you, too, have been struck by Royal fever – and in the mood for a little Kylie Minogue, Elton John and Jessie J – you can catch the concert at 8pm on Channel 9 tonight.

So Primpettes, today PRIMPED has a distinctively English feel to it. We’ll all agree the Queen is pretty gorge, with her carefully coiffed perm sitting pretty under an array of brightly coloured hats, but the British are known for more than just the Royal family. We can’t forget Jammie Dodgers, Percy Pigs and English Breakfast Tea. Oh, and Jude Law. Lastly, of course, the cult British beauty products that have held prime position in our beauty arsenal for many moons.

So to celebrate the occasion, we’ve joined forces with the lovely team over at Rimmel London to give away 10 prize packs, which include a certain Union Jack-embellished palette and a just-hit-counters waterproof liquid eyeliner. Yipee! But more on that later.

Without further ado, meet some of our top cult British beauty buys …

Eve Lom Cleanser

Eve Lom Cleanser, $115, Mecca Cosmetica

Touted as the best cleanser in the world by Vogue UK, and considered the core product in the range, the Eve Lom Cleanser works a treat on all skin types, from normal to oily to dry and sensitive. Best applied with a fresh Muslin cloth, which makes the whole process seem much more luxurious than your regular skincare regime, this product is a cleanser, toner and exfoliator all-in-one. Infused with Egyptian chamomile and oils for a deep cleanse, it leaves your skin impurity-free, silky soft and aglow. Quick tip: a little does go a long way.

JK-Jemma-Kidd-Lip-ID-Adapt-Gloss

JK Jemma Kidd Lip ID Adapt Gloss, $29.95, Kit Cosmetics

We’re all on the hunt for a lip product that enhances our own natural lip colour for everyday wear, and the Adapt Gloss does just that. It uses a whizz-bang technology that reacts to your skins natural temperature and pH levels to create the perfect colour match. Quick tip: the more product you apply, the more intense the colour, so dab it on gently and then add more as you see fit for a glossier, pigmented finish.

ThisWorksLegOil

This Works Skin Deep Dry Leg Oil, $95Mecca Cosmetica

Dry skin on my legs, particularly my shins is the bane of my winter existence, and my summer one, too. Pardon the pun, but this really does work. The combination of oils, including rose (my favourite) revitalises your skin and nourishes those almost-beyond-repair areas. Winner.

Burberry-Lip-Glow

Burberry Lip Glow, $45, from department stores

Cult British fashion brand Burberry made its first foray into beauty back in ’10, with a range of natural and wearable makeup and fragrance. One of my favourite products is the Lip Glow in Nude Rose, a soft, shimmering pale pink which gives good glow without too much sparkle. It comes complete with a ceramide complex to keep your smackers both shiny and smooth throughout the day. Plus I love the iconic Burberry check print on the lid.

Illamasqua

Illamasqua Pure Pigment, $39, Myer

Renowned for richly pigmented palettes and eye-poppingly bright shades, Illamasqua products were created to be experimented with. I love this shimmering pure pigment palette, which unlike other pigment products, is housed in a palette. Those of you who have played with pigment before will know that it can be on the messy side, so this palette is pretty much perfect. My go-to shade? Furore – a soft, champagne with a hint of sparkle, reminiscent of Stila’s Kitten Eyeshadow.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation, $19.95, from pharmacies

If you can believe it, Rimmel London was originally created back in 1934, which means this well-loved and affordable trend-setting cosmetic brand turns 78 this year. As for my top product pick, it’s gotta be the Wake Me Up Foundation. You know when you get up in the morning and your skin can look (and feel) a little lacklustre and tired? Well, this is perfect for those days when you need a quick boost and pick-me-up, and a buildable, yet flawless foundation base. It’s not too cakey or heavy, either, and on my skin it glides on smoothly with the ultra-moisturised feel of a BB cream.

Nude-Miracle-Mask

Nude Miracle Mask, $84, Mecca Cosmetica

Founder Bryan Meehan made organic food famous in the UK, before turning his entrepreneurial skills to create Nude Skincare, one of our secrets to flawless skin. The eco-friendly ingredients in this skin-clearing mask including natural AHAs and mandarin extract on hand to exfoliate, while red ginseng, known for its toning and revitalising properties, boosts your skins natural circulation system to create an even, glowing complexion.

Vintage-Gardenia

Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia Cologne, from $85, 1800 661 062

I think you’ll be yet to find someone who isn’t in love with Jo Malone’s classic and feminine fragrances, particularly those who are partial to a flower-filled bouquet. The Vintage Gardenia fragrance has notes of gardenia and hyacinth, with a hint of sandlewood, cardamom and myrhh for a bold, refreshing finish without being too overpowering. It also comes in a delicious Body Creme and Home Candle.

And lastly, the competition I was banging on about earlier. There are 10 prize packs to giveaway to you, our lovely Primpettes, valued at $53.80 each (to be exact). It’s jam-packed with Rimmel goodies, including the new Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, $12.95Extra WOW Lash Mascara, $12.95Kate Moss Union Jack Eyeshadow, $15.95, and the Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in #11, $11.95, the perfect vibrant, standout red. Here’s the lineup …

Rimmel-London-Prize-Pack

So tell me Primpettes, do you have a favourite British beauty buy or brand?

Have you tried any of the above products, or do any tickle your fancy?

UPDATED: The comp has now closed. Congrats to our lucky winners. K Nyholm-Hunter (VIC), N Smith (VIC), B Bell (QLD), A Menzies (QLD), J Thorn (NSW), C Lissaman (WA), N Mahendran (VIC), V Favetta (NSW), M Tecson (NSW), J Swift (VIC). Man your letterbox, your prizes will  be with you soon.
