Four Beauty (and Hat) Looks to File Away for Winter
Thu, 24 January 2013 12:07PM
I know that, at that mention of the word winter, you probably have your hands over your ears and are singing tra-la-la-la at the top of your voice. I totally get that you want to stretch summer – and its bronzed skin, orange lips, bright eyes and beach hair – out for as long as possible. And the last think I want to do is rain on your sunshiny parade. Or Straya Day spirits.
But it is winter over in Paris and Sundance (where the couture shows and a film festival are going on right now), and some of the celebrity looks there are so fabulous that it would be a crying shame not to showcase them down in this hemisphere.
So, while I’m not expecting us all to pile on the powder and pull on a hat, there’s no harm in starting that winter inspiration board over at Pinterest, right?
And here’s what you should pin to it …
1. Diane Kruger
Okay, so she looks a little like a French schoolgirl, with that pretty little plait poking out from under a beret, tilted just-so.
But lose the Peter Pan-collared pinafore and add a white tee and boyfriend jeans, and you instantly have grown-up Gallic chic. And don’t forget, in winter you need extra help in the glow department. Cue a dash of illuminator in your creamy foundation for extra dewiness, and a splash of shimmer all over the lids.
2. Hailee Steinfeld
She was our One to Watch a while back and we still love spotting her fashion and beauty looks. Including this number. How adorable is the Baker Boy cap, swiveled to the side a little to showcase a sooty slash of black eyeliner?
Meanwhile, her hair was been coiled and loosely pulled around into a twirly bun at one side:
Super-cute. And a great hairstyle (and hat style) to keep in mind on mornings when it’s too miserably cold for hair-washing to seem like a good idea.
3. Laura Bailey
You might remember I recently professed my girl-crush on Laura. This is the reason. She can effortlessly match ultra-chic (the nude nails, the tailored clothes) with breezy boho (a slouchy rasta-ish beret hat, long whimsical waves).
The take-home tip for winter beauty: a brush-over of bronzer will always brighten up your look, no matter how black that look is.
4. AnnaLynne McCord
With that cute little beanie and a pretty flush of pink on the cheeks, the actress looks suitably snow-bunny-ish at the Sundance festival. And I love how her cool makeup tones play up to the theme; a mauve-ish pink on the lips, and a crisp white liner on the inner rim. Just the look I’m going to channel the next time I find myself down Thredbo way, curled up on a sofa and drinking schnapps in front of a crackling fire.
Tell me, Primpers, have I excited you about winter?
Or are you still singing tra-la-la-la at the top of your voice?
