UPDATED: Just like us, Whitney Port is sometimes too lazy to wash the makeup off her face

Tue, 9 August 2011 4:25PM

Even though a thorough nightly cleanse is one of the best things we can do for our skin (besides wearing sunscreen, of course), occasionally those late (boozy) nights get the better of us and the thought of flopping straight into bed with our face full of (smudged) makeup seems way too alluring.

But instead of being outrageously naughty, we reach for something we consider to be the perfect happy medium – a facial cleansing wipe, which we then sweep over our face. It may not cleanse as deep as a cream or gel cleanser, but heck, it stops us from looking like a panda come the AM, and allows us to slather on some moisturiser so our skin won’t look like complete shit in the morning.

Guess which celeb also does this, Primps? Go on, take a stab.

Fine, I’ll give you a hint, but only because the headline of this post clearly doesn’t give it away.

HINT NO. 1: She used to be on The Hills.

HINT NO. 2: She also used to be on The City.

HINT NO. 3: She looks like this:

Whitney Port loves Yes To Cucumbers Facial Wipes

Yes, I’m talking about Whitney Port, and sometimes she can’t be arsed washing her face at night either. How do I know this? Well, she recently told People magazine, that’s how. And guess which facial wipes are her fave? These bad boys right here:

Yes To Cucumbers Facial Wipes

Yes To Cucumbers Natural Glow Facial Towelettes, $7.95

Whit reckons they are ace at taking off her makeup quickly, and honestly, I couldn’t agree more. These kiddlets have saved me many times in the past, and their fresh, cucumber scent is absolutely amazing. They’re also kind to my sensitive skin,  which I find hard to come by in a towelette.

So, maybe next you find yourself in the supermarket aisle before a big night, or if you just happen to find yourself wishing you were more like Whitney Port, maybe you should pick up a packet of these. I’m pretty sure your face is keen for you to do so. It positively hates sleeping with makeup. We’ve heard she hogs the quilt.

UPDATE: Guess what? Guess what? A wee mouse (all dressed up in a cute-to-boot suit) told me that this Aussie glamour loves these facial wipes, too:

Abbie Cornish

OK, so I lied. About the mouse part, anyway. Our very own Abbie Cornish recently told Us Weekly that these are the bad boys she reaches for when she needs to cool down after a sweaty session at the gym. Smart one, Abs. These are the perfect product to have in your bag after a gym workout.

Primps,

Do you use makeup wipes when you’re too lazy to cleanse properly?
Or do you use them all the time?
Have you used these Yes To Cucumbers ones before?
If a celebrity says a product is good, does it make you want to try it?

I’m terrible, I use these all the time as its much easier to use than a cream cleanser.

  • Posted by: Samantha // Thu, 14 July 2011 01:35pm

hello! So these would be available at a supermarket like Coles or Safeway?

  • Posted by: Gracie Devotee // Thu, 14 July 2011 01:43pm

Yeo I use them after a big night out. I haven’t tried Yes To Cucumbers but I like the look of the re-sealable opening…looks better than the normal flaps that lose their stickiness.
I keep mine in a zip lock bag so that they don’t dry out.

Oops I meant ‘Yep’ not ‘Yeo’ haha

Im really bad at leaving my make up on :( luckily i wear mineral make up so its not as bad. Still i should put some of these by my bed

The one thing I’m pedantic about is my skin, and even when I’ve had a long night and don’t feel like it, I always take the time to wash off my makeup and cleanse my skin. It really does make a difference in how my skin looks and feels when I make the effort to take care of it. I don’t feel like makeup wipes do a good enough job.

I could’ve sworn these were $13? Oh well, never the less it’s great to see celebs using natural/organic skincare!

  • Posted by: Coconal Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 02:26pm

I stopped using these because I heard they were really bad for regular use, but it might be worth picking these up, they sound lovely!

Perhaps not for every day use but for those nights where you just can’t be bothered cleansing properly!

  • Posted by: Adele // Thu, 14 July 2011 02:27pm

Ive never understood why girls dont take their makeup off…not just because of your face but yuck, your pillows! Even at my tipsiest Ive managed to scrub my face and get clean.
Seriously girls, if you are in your late teens or early 20′s, shake this habit now and your face will thank you for it when you are 30. Ive just turned 30 and have always cleaned before bed and that is why I look 26/28. Wipes are only good for getting off some makeup before a gym session or wiping your face down after the beach etc to get rid of dirt and grit.

Lovely Samantha, these are stocked at Priceline, Coles, David Jones and selected pharmacies across the Land of Oz. I hope you stumble across them soon. And beautybabe111, the place you’re buying these from must be ripping you off. Bummer! CH x

I haven’t seen these wipes before, where do you get them?

I have occasionally been very bad and not taken make up off (especially when I’m not staying at home) so i try to have some wipes in my bag or car for emergencies!
The skin feels just awful without a good clean!

  • Posted by: Louise-1295043242 Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 03:09pm

oh he he just saw the response about where to buy them, thanks!

  • Posted by: Sarah // Thu, 14 July 2011 04:02pm

beautybabe111, yes, definitely more in the range of $13 – that’s how much I paid for them at Coles after MONTHS of searching for them. There’s no way you’ll get them anywhere for the $7.95 stated here.

  • Posted by: Bantam Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 05:27pm

I double cleanse using a cleansing oil first then my normal cleanser!

  • Posted by: Becca Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 06:17pm

I use them occassionally, but I find it really handy to have a Trilogy cleanser bottle with a push-pump at the sink so that it is super easy to cleanse morning and night. Works for me:)

  • Posted by: SydneyRose Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 07:06pm

Yes when I’m tired, I use “simple” cleansing facial wipes to remove my makeup. In the past I have tried Nivea facial wipes, but simple is better. The simple facial wipes quickly removes all makeup including waterproof mascara. If a pack of Yes to Cucumbers wipes is the same price range as a pack of simple wipes, then I’ll try it.

  • Posted by: Bridals // Thu, 14 July 2011 07:12pm

oohh aahhh haven’t yet seen these, I’m assuming they are more natural ergo sensitive than others (which I hate using!). Thanks Cherie!

i have never tried these! such a good idea!

  • Posted by: xKMS Master Fan // Thu, 14 July 2011 08:04pm

love facial wipes – makes everything sooo much easier! but i always use a cleanser after these (unless im super drunk, of course) :S

  • Posted by: BeaverCity Supporter // Fri, 15 July 2011 12:14am

I love having make up wipes especially when I’m tired or staying at my boyfriends.
Simple brand are awesome, especially for waterproof mascara, you can wipe your eye ball with them they are so gentle!
Not that I recommend wiping your eye shadow, but it can happen when you are tipsy!

  • Posted by: sumaya Master Fan // Fri, 15 July 2011 09:18am

I always make sure to wash all my make-up off properly, it doesn’t actually take that long and i am really fussy when it comes to my skin.

  • Posted by: lady Devotee // Fri, 15 July 2011 09:37am

Might have to get some of these – it can be SUCH an effort to remove make-up after a night out!

Though knowing what my skin will look and feel like the next morning is usually pretty good motivation!

  • Posted by: Elmo Enthusiast // Fri, 15 July 2011 09:56am

Having struggled in the past with less than perfect skin, I’ve trained myself to be pretty damn good at removing make up at the end of the night. There has been the odd occasion where I haven’t (and I always fiercely regret it!) – but wipes certainly do come in handy for those times when you can’t be bothered (or umm are too inebriated!) to do a full routine. I also use them regularly to take my make up off before working out (then I do a full cleansing routine after working out). I always had a lot of trouble finding wipes that wouldn’t sting or irritate my face, or leave a weird film on it, or dry it out, or cause break outs, and my search ended with the discovery of Wot Not Face Wipes – all natural – and infused with the much famed rosehip oil (amongst many other nourishing ingredients which leave your skin feeling soft and moisturised) – these have earned the HG title for me and I can’t rave about them enough!

Face wipes are a life saver! I always opt for face wipes when I’ve had a late night and I’m too tired to cleanse my face properly!

  • Posted by: hun13e Supporter // Mon, 18 July 2011 09:24am

After seeing these wipes on the blog, i got my pretty little hands on some. OMG, so in love!! Not too sold on the smell though, but they make my skin feel great and super clean. I wash my face every day and night but in winter it gets harder because it’s so cold and the last thing you want to do at night is splash water on your face even if it is warm water! These wipes are a face saver :) Plus theyre so much easier to carry around when sleeping at the boyfriends place.

  • Posted by: juji Enthusiast // Mon, 18 July 2011 12:42pm

I am a big BIG fan of the face wipe. Especially when travelling – pre, during and post flight, they’re amazing.

Also excellent for mid-air makeup, food, toothpaste or anything else that ends up on my clothes. (Works on practically any stain, I swear!)

In fact, I recently bought some unscented Huggies baby wipes in a huge pack with a resealable top because I use them so much – they’re just as good, and really moisturising.

    My tip:
Save the real cleansing wipes for the handbag though – if you’re childless like I am, whipping out a teddy adorned pack of wipes in the ladies is a little weird.

  • Posted by: miranda Devotee // Mon, 25 July 2011 02:57pm

I’ve never used these yes to cucumbers ones before. But, I swear by the Johnsons face care 3 in 1 wipes (in the pink packet). They are fairly gentle (gentle for a towelette anyway!)
And are by far and away the most effective face wipes at removing makeup out of the many many different brands I have trialled. Including other Johnsons ones.

The only other ones are Johnsons face care daily essentials, also in the pink packet. I don’t use any others anymore!

  • Posted by: Glush // Mon, 25 July 2011 08:40pm

Whitney is so SO stunning, as always! Those wipes with that plastic lid look great!

  • Posted by: KK // Tue, 26 July 2011 09:22am

I grabbed the Nivea Sensitive Skin ones the other day from woolies (as per zoe’s or yaz’s suggestion…). And they are great! Get the grit off. Really soft. Nourishing. And I kind of have a phobia of towlettes that are too wet. But they were great.

  • Posted by: Rach // Tue, 26 July 2011 09:49am

I use both, I shower and use a cream or foam cleanser and then wipes when I go to bed.
I have super sensitive skin and suffer from excema and the only ones I’ve found that I can cope with are Swisspers plain ones. Not the cucumber ones!

  • Posted by: Talithaw Enthusiast // Tue, 26 July 2011 11:18am

By the time i have rid my face of all traces of makeup with a wipe (usually two wipes) i could have washed my face 3 times over. Face was hdoes a better job. the only time i would use wipes is if i were camping and had no easy access to some water.

  • Posted by: Sarah // Tue, 26 July 2011 12:52pm

I actually bought these as a last minute splurge buy at Coles recently, and I was surprised to find them there. To be totally honest the main reason I bought the product was because I liked the packaging and the feel of the matte stock plastic?! Strange I know. But they actually work well on my eczema prone skin and smell great too… I like also that they have deep-sea-minerals listed as ingredients and are not tested on animals. Definitely purchasing again!

  • Posted by: karleymichelle Enthusiast // Tue, 26 July 2011 01:45pm

I use face wipes all the time. But i haven’t tried these. Normally use the Nivea sensitive skin ones. They remove even my waterproof eye liner and dont dry my skin out or leave it oily :)

Helpful tip: Leave the packet upsidedown so that the liquid in the bag sits with the top wipe so they will never feel dry!!

cucumbers glow towel will defiantly gives me help in decreasing my acne.

  • Posted by: Miriam // Wed, 27 July 2011 12:10am

I LOVE facewipes. They’re pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. I love the Yes To … range in theory, but I’ve found the wipes burned my skin a little, as did the eye gel (both from the cucumbers range), but I tend to have quite sensitive skin. (I love their body products, though, and the philosophy of the company is awesome)

At the moment, I’m using the Nature’s Organics sensitive facewipes, which I quite like.

I haven’t tried these Yes to Cucumber wipes yet. I have stuck with the nivea ones for their scent and the fact that nivea has been around for a long time. Am keen to try the simple wipes but not before these ones. I used to just reach for the wipes but feel guilty now and think it would be far more beneficial if i thoroughly washed my face then properly applied my night serum and nght cream. I am doing my face a favour and investing in good skin for the future.
If a celebrity says a product is good, it doesn’t necessarily make me want to go out and buy it because you don’t know if they are being paid to say so.

Oh, and i keep my little towelette packet stored upside down so they stay wet when i need to use them.

  • Posted by: Bridals // Tue, 9 August 2011 06:54pm

My favourite part about these wipes is they dont just have a stick down label they acutally have a lid (ala Baby Wipes) so they dont dry out!

  • Posted by: RROZZ Enthusiast // Tue, 9 August 2011 08:08pm

They’re great for taking off makeup. Not keen on the cucumber aspect though.

I use the Aldi ‘Lacura’ Makeup remover/cleanser wipes after a biggie but usually use the Dove Foaming make Up remover. Both products work a treat!

I haven’t used yes to cucumbers before but I have used face wipes when I am too lazy to wash my face properly.
But celebrity endorsements do not sway me to buy a particular brand.

  • Posted by: Louise-1295043242 Master Fan // Wed, 10 August 2011 07:44am

I saw these Yes to prodz the other day, they look very fresh and clean! this Yes to Cucumbers facial wipes look good!

It makes me more resolved to try something if a celeb I like recommends it, but only if I was pretty sure I was going to get it anyway.. if I had decided against it they wouldn’t be able to change my mind!

I love wipes… good for staying at the byfs house and excellent for camping, I’ve used the biore ones, simple ones and the neutrogena ones. Neutro is the best. Might give the yes to cucumbers a try!!! Altho… baby wipes smell better and the cloth is bigger!!!

These are my staple wipes that I use when travelling or when I’m unwell or just too plain lazy to properly cleanse my face at the end of the day.
I have the previous packaged ones but will be restocking with these new ones.
Some celebrities are paid to advertise products which would make me a little wary of their endorsement…so I prefer to stay informed by reading magazines and subscribing to Primped :)
