MBFWA ’12: Slick Top Knots, Sunset Eyes and Full Brows As Seen At Zimmerman

*Word of warning: these shots may leave you with a serious case of warm weather withdrawals.
Although we appreciate the creative enthusiasm that goes into creating the outrageous hair and makeup looks behind shows like Romance Was Born, as a beauty editor, nothing beats turning up at a show and being greeted by a hair and makeup combo that you know you can recreate at home, without having to tweak a thing. Here are some handy notes to help you copy our favourite look from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia so far….
Introducing the golden rose makeup and rag-doll-esque top knot seen at Zimmerman…
The Face: It’s all about the strategic placement of shimmer and shine. This week, makeup artists have been using sheer lipsticks, in rose and coffee colours as well as clear lip balm to highlight the skin, and for good reason. Not only are the formulas more manageable to build, but they’re nowhere near as messy as a loose powder to apply – just use your ring finger to gently blend the product along the high-points of the face, which is handy for when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to deal with fallout. Speaking of lipstick, to balance out the shimmer on the eyes and cheeks, you want to keep the lips matt, so try blotting the lips with a tissue to knock back the shine.
The hair: When it comes to creating super-sleek styles, you can’t go past hat elastic. Not only is it as cheap as chips, but unlike a standard hair elastic, it allows you to tweak the amount of tension to suit the hairstyle and the thickness of the hair. And if you want the sleekness without the shine, try pulling your hair back into the style while it’s still wet before spritzing trouble spots, like along the hairline, with a small amount of hairspray.
Speaking of pretty makeup looks, make sure you swing by here to check out the totally wearable earthy eye from the Whitney Eve show.
