MBFWA ’12: The Biggest Nail Trends For Winter.
Wed, 9 May 2012 4:57PM
If Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is anything to go by, it seems it’s time to put your crazy nail art patterns on the back burner for a wee while because the reverse French Manicure is where the magic is at.
Lisa Ho got the Reverse French Manicure (RFM) ball rolling, by opting for a neutral base coat, topped off with darker tips, like navy and red to match the model’s coloured hair extensions. Fun, right?
Unlike the previous season’s this year, the nail trends were refreshingly simple so in case the RFM is a little too demanding, you can rest easy knowing that both bright and sorbet-hued nail lacquers, like yellow, lilac and teal also made a serious comeback. And if nudes are your caper, it seems Fashion Week’s favourite go-to girl, OPI Nail Lacquer in Samoan Sand, $19.95, was treated to a well deserved break with white taking over as the neutral du jour.
Love a statement nail, without the fuss? You can make like the models at Manning Cartell with OPI’s vibrant yellow/green lacquer, Did it On Em,$19.95.
Neutral but never boring, white lacquers were a huge hit with both Zimmerman and Bec & Bridge opting for these snow-white numbers: OPI Nail Lacquer in Alpine Snow and Don’t Touch My Tutu (a sheer white), both $19.95.
Are you ready to put nail art on the back burner?
How do you feel about white nail polish?

I’ve been doing the coloured tips (reverse french) for ages! And I do love white nail polish!
I love the colour coordinating french tips/hair streaks combination from the first photo and I think white nail polish can be awfully classy.
I don’t necessarily think nail art has to be out the door..I think it just comes down to having the confidence to wear what you want with flair, and also to bear in mind that some things should be suited to the occasion.

I LOVE bright yellow nail polish right now! When I wear it people either love it or hate it (mostly the teenagers love it)
- Just one problem with bright yellow polish though, when I remove the polish my nails retained a sickly yellow stain that no amount of polish remover or buffing would get out it was and still is so ugly! I’m waiting for it to grow out and just keep painting them different colours (no more yellow though)

As much as I love seeing other peoples nails painted and the beautiful nail art, I am a french finish girl through and through. Maybe its just because I am lazy or the fact I cant be bothered changing colour for outfits.

I like the coloured tips too! but not a fan of the white nail polish. Reminds me of being bored in school and putting white out on them.

Bright tips are nice, but sometimes it needs to match with something else you’re wearing.

Love the luminising effect and the matching with the eyes. Very pretty. I would wear white nail polish, i have nothing against it.

I think nail art can look either very good or very bad depending on how it’s done. I love the indigo tips matching the hair in this pic! White polish doesn’t do it for me at all.

Hmm. I think I prefer a dove grey colour over white. I’m also not prepared to give up my recently acquired love for DIY nail art! I do like the reverse frenchie though, one of the girls I work with has purple glitter tips and they look amazing!
