Milan S/S ’13: Two New Ways to Wear Red from Blugirl and Prada
Fri, 21 September 2012 12:16PM
Let’s just take a moment to admire this breath of fresh beauty air:
It’s the Blugirl show and doesn’t it just make you want to go dancing in a daisy field?
See that gorgeous cheek? It’s just the flush you’d get if you did actually go out skipping through fields with flowers in your hair, don’t you think?
Or, if that all sounds too much like hard work, you could use this:
It’s M.A.C Powder blush in Frankly Scarlet, $41, M.A.C. And it looks frightfully scary, doesn’t it? But here’s the thing: if you apply it with a super-light hand and the right brush – say a duo-fibre variety – you get exactly the effect seen in this photo. Which is why this blush was the star makeup for the Blugirl show.
But if you prefer your red makeup to be a little more out and proud, check out the crimson lip that took to the Prada runway:
Pat McGrath’s lippie of choice: CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Hot, $14.95, from pharmacies
Red schmed, I hear you say. Been there, done that. A million times. But here’s the twist: Pat used a white pencil to trace along the cupid’s bow of the lip. The effect: to visually push the lips out and make them look poutier. Not sure it’s one for everyday, but perhaps worth a try next time you’re out painting the town the same shade as your lippie.
What do you think, Primpers? Will you try the white pencil trick?
Got any other ways to make red lipstick really pop?
And what about red blush – intrigued enough to give it a go?

I like the idea of that white pencil trick.. I’ve heard of using highlighter there before for the message effect.

I make red lips pop with a nude coloured eye.

Wow I love everything about the top pic! I can’t help but feel the reason the bottom model’s lips look “poutier” is because they’ve massively traced outside her lip line.

Love the look of the blush once it’s on but the lippy is a no go for me, I have two of them and they are beautiful colours but they smell and taste so bad that I can’t wear them, I was bitterly disappointed in them

@melg i use Benefit eyebright pencil too! Such a great multi-tasker- brightens the eyes, enhances the pout and highlights the brow.

The model from the Blugirl show looks lovely, though I admit the colour of the blush really scares me!

I love the first pic, it’s very bohemian….love it. I think the white pencil makes the red lippie look amazing and if I wore red lippie I’d definately use that trick.
