New York A/W ’13: New (York) Ideas for Lips & Tips!
Fri, 8 February 2013 3:33PM
A blizzard might be beating down on Manhattan as we speak, but fashion stops for nobody, Primpers, not even Mother Nature.
Lucky that, seeing as the fall/winter collections come at a very convenient time for we Aussie beauty peeps, as we get to see looks that we pinch almost straight away, for our own autumn (snowboots and balaclava not necessary).
With Day One of New York Fashion Week only just wrapping itself up in a big snug bow, it would be silly to predict a trend… But I can say that I have spotted some lovely mouth/manicure combos that I intend to make my own. And maybe if I can convince you to take up the cause too, well, we will most certainly have a trend on our hands. And, err, lips.
Anyhoo, without further ado, here are three catwalk combos to copy …
The lips, being lavished in M.A.C’s fiery-red Lady Danger, $36, M.A.C, are not so much a surprise – after all, this is a cult, catwalk-loved lippie – but it’s the way that they contrast with the nails, both in terms of colour and texture, that really make everything go pop. Inspired? Run out and buy Essie’s Nothing Else Metals, $18.95, Myer, at once.
A classic sweep of liquid liner suddenly looks fresh and fabulous, thanks to the usual black being swapped for a rich purply hue. Try Face of Australia Budge-Proof Gel Eyeliner in Pure Purple, $9.95, pharmacies. And while I’m not sure which exact nail polish was used here, a good bet is OPI’s Black Onyx, $19.95, salons and David Jones, seeing as it pops up backstage about, oh, 347 times every Fashion Week.
If you’re a match-your-mani-to-your-mouth kind of girl (hmmm, might you just be a Virgo?), make this image your winter beauty muse. Just gorge. The lips come courtesy of Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga, $40, Mecca Cosmetica; and the tips are topped with Butter London Nail Polish in La Moss, $22, Adore Beauty.
What think, Primpers? Ready to clash your red lips with metallic lilac tips?
Or what about a purple take on liquid liner?
Or are you a Virgo?
