Part 2: Napoleon Perdis shares his tips on how to create the smoky eye at David Jones Autumn/Winter show
Tue, 21 February 2012 6:44AM
In case you missed yesterdays post, last week we got the opportunity to catch up with Napoleon Perdis backstage at the David Jones Autumn/Winter Fashion Show for 2012 and although he was up to his apricots in bronzer and lipstick, he did manage to share a few of his favourite clever pointers to help us ace the three makeup looks he created for the show. Right now, it’s all about getting sultry, with a smoky eye and nude lip combo.
Look 2: Metalika: based on his latest makeup collection, Metalika, it’s all about creating a dramatic eye using a mixture of textures and metals, from loose powders to cream eyes shadows, teamed with dewy-in-all-the-right-places looking skin and a barely-there glossy lip.

Here’s a shot of the look in action courtesy of DJ’s star, Samantha Harris.
Bonus tips from Napoleon Perdis from the night
“Dewy, glowing skin is the key to any makeup look but you don’t need to apply foundation all over. Do yourself a favour and just concentrate on the areas that need it the most, like the chin, the cheeks and the t-zone and then just buff what’s ever remaining out to the hairline. No body wants a full face of foundation, it’s too much. Too fake,” explains Perdis.
“Forget about fallout. It’e inevitable when it comes to creating a smokey eye so don’t try to fight it. Go to town with your eyeshadow and do everything you need to in order to smudge and contour it properly and then wait until the very end to go back and clean everything up in one go with your concealer brush. If you’re a neat freak, you’ve got to get over it. It’s half the fun of the look!” says Perdis.
“If you want to mix things up, try adding a different colour, like copper, navy or an emerald into the mix. It’ll make your eye colour pop, plus it’s daring and it’s fun and that’s what makeup is all about so don’t be scared to play around and inject a bit of your own personality into the looks this season,” he adds.

Love a smokey eye but finding it VERY hard to read the instructions… so small and curley!

Love it on other beauties – way too old now and need much more subtle and subdued eye makeup!

I bust out a smokey eye whenever I have a special occasion, although I dont feel like I can pull off a nude lip, and always go for a pop of red.
