Style Round-Up From MBFWA ’12: Get a Jump Start on Spring/Summer Trends
Tue, 12 June 2012 4:47PM
Both my faux fur gilet and (tightly belted) trench coat and I have become one these past few weeks. You almost can’t find me within all my layers, and with good reason, since here in NSW we’re experiencing some of the coldest, drenched June weather in history. Without sounding too dramatic, the only shining beacon of light at the end of the dreary winter ahead is the fact that spring is just a few short months away, meaning we can start bringing out some of the key fashion trends we spotted on the MBFWA ’12 runways.
Ready for daydreams of warmer weather and to be inspired? Let’s go …
In full bloom
Nothing says springtime like a fresh bunch of flowers. Traditionally on the spring/summer runways, we always see a new form of floral emerging and this year, Sara Phillips, Zimmerman and Jenny Kee all brought out variations on the popular trend. From sheer and dreamy pastels to bold and bright Australian natives, you don’t have to be a girly-girl to work this feminine trend. Don a pair of floral-emblazoned pants or skirt and team it with a plain or block colour tee or vice versa to keep it simple, yet sophisticated or for a more flowing and romantic look, try a printed dress teamed with wedges.

A Pop of Peplum
You have more than likely noticed the peplum trend popping up both on the red carpet and the runway, at the likes of Toni Maticevski, Alice McCall, Bowie, Lisa Ho and By Johnny. The nipped-in-at-the-waist silhouette is flattering to all body shapes, creating the illusion of a slim waistline and hourglass shape, and the short ruffled frill (the peplum) adds a feminine touch to your night-out and everyday work wear ensemble. We love a peplum dress in a block colour that’ll see you through a day in the office and drinks with the girls just by adding a pair of killer heels.

Do you have a favourite?
How do you feel about buying clothes online?
Are you looking forward to spring as much as much as I am?
