The best party season beauty essentials you need to stock up on
Tue, 13 December 2011 10:00AM
There’s no denying the silly season is well and truly upon us. With parties to be at, people to catch up with and places to go, it’s right about now that you need to have a handful of great beauty products that you know you can call on to keep you looking glowing, polished and well-rested despite the fact that you’re running on almost empty. Here are a few party-season/summer beauty essentials worth investing in.
Benefit Sun Beam, $45 (on counter January 14th 2012). Say hello to the latest addition to the Benefit Beam family, Benefit Sun Beam. It boasts the same easy-to-blend, pearly formula, now with an added golden hue. Use it solo to play up the high points of your face like the cheeks, cupids bow and brow bone, or combine it with your tinted moisturiser of foundation for an all-over golden glow, without having to worry about using bronzer. Meaning: one less product to stash in your clutch!
Lanolips Lovely Lanolin Golden Ointment, $28.95. If you think the Lip Ointment and hand cream are the bomb diggity, prepare for the next instalment: a souped up balmy-salve that you can slather all over. Designed for ultra dry skin, it’s ideal for using on the elbows, legs, knees and hands, but I suggest you apply it on your feet at night before popping on a pair of cotton socks for summer sandal-ready feet by the AM.
It also dries with a near-silky finish (without feeling greasy) that moonlights as the perfect highlighter. No time to fake fan? Try it on the shins for dewy, extra-long looking pins in a hurry.
Another handy tip: Just cracked open a new pair of heels for your work Christmas party? Try applying a teeny-tiny amount of the ointment to pressure or prone-to-blister points, like the heels, and the inside arch of the foot, before you pop on your shoes to prevent friction and beat blisters in their tracks.
Nicole by OPI’s Kardashian Kolor in Disco Dolls, $14.95. Note the general golden/bronzed theme that’s happening here, Primpettes? That’s because neutrals are always a safe bet when it comes to fast glamour and nails. Not only do they go with everything, but the the beauty of earthy hues is that unlike a bold red or coral, they don’t stick out like a sore thumb as soon as they chip, so you can stretch an extra day or two out of a mani. My favourite trick of late is to layer a glitter or crackle overcoat over my existing colour to mask chips when I’m in a rush.
St. Tropzez Naturals Self Tan Lotion, $39.95 (200ml). The Rolls Royce of fake tan, St. Tropez is loved the world over for its impossible-to-stuff-up, universally flattering golden colour. And when we say foolproof, we really mean it. In all the years I’ve been slathering it on my limbs, I can whole-heartedly say that I’ve never had an Oompah Loompah moment. And let’s face it, no one has time for dealing with fake tanning disasters in a fragile, tired, backing-up-for-a-second-night-on-the-town, already-running-late-to-the-party state of mind.
With any fake tan, I always suggest you opt with the body lotion over the mousse to save yourself time and mess. Weighing in at around, $39.95, the St. Tropez Naturals Self Tan Lotion sits at the beefier end of the clam scales but when you work it out at peace of mind per use, it’s practically free.
