The Latest Celebrity Nail Colours to Try Now
Thu, 31 January 2013 12:20PM
Neutral nails have their time and place. And on the red carpet, when there’s a whole lot of frou frou, tulle and sequins going on, it’s probably the best – and safest – nail bet.
You might have noticed from our red-carpet manicure galleries that neutral nails – read milky-white, glossy taupe and soft cream – have been a rather popular choice for the 2013 awards season. And sure, there was a little nail art thrown in from Anne Hathaway at the SAGs, with a gorgeous black butterfly decals parading across white nails and Zooey Deschanel at the Golden Globes, complete with a mini film reel, but really, it was predominantly about the nudes.
So this morning, while feeling a little uninspired on what colour to paint my nails (first world problems, clearly) I began scrolling through some of the latest celeb pictures to land in my inbox. And, wouldn’t you know it, there was nail colour aplenty, providing us all with at least another week’s worth of nail-spiration.
Nail Look #1: Jessica Alba
The fun and flirty polish provided a playful contrast against her dramatic black and beaded lace dress at this week’s Producers Guild Awards, the minty emerald green metallic polish the perfect way to dip into the 2013 Pantone Colour of the Year.
Nail Look #2: Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts’ pearlescent green-black polish tied in perfectly with her old Hollywood glamour beauty look at the SAG Awards, and manicurist Tracey Sutter created a custom nail polish on the night.
Try: Tracey mixed together a combination of Essie Nail Polish in Imported Champagne, a frosty beige, and Essie Nail Polish in Stylenomics, a dark, opulent green part of the Essie Autumn 2013 collection out March 1, $18.95 each, 1800 811 611.
Nail Look #3: Anne Hathaway
While I have been loving Anne Hathaway’s various experiments with nail art lately, after spotting her floral dress at the Producer’s Guild Awards, she hardly needed to add any more colour to her ensemble. She instead coordinated her metallic navy polish to her satin evening clutch.
Try: Slick on two coats of OPI Nail Lacquer in Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue, $19.95, a deep blue with a subtle metallic shimmer throughout.
Nail Look #3: Teresa Palmer
We loved Teresa Palmer’s perfectly manicured orange-verging-on-salmon nails at the premiere of Warm Bodies in LA.
Try: To achieve Teresa’s creamy nail finish, paint one thin coat of Essie Tart Deco, $18.95, Adore Beauty, and then add a slightly thicker second layer, finishing with a top coat to seal the deal.
Tell me, Primpers, which is your favourite nail look here?
Do you like metallic polish?
Or do you prefer neutral shades?
