The New Grace Kelly?

Fri, 25 May 2012 12:55PM

She’s the niece of Prince Albert II of Monaco and daughter of Princess Caroline, but Charlotte Casiraghi has stayed out of the limelight for the majority of her adult life. Until now. Despite landing on several best dressed lists (and most beautiful, in our opinion) the 26-year-old granddaughter of the late Grace Kelly is better known for her equestrian skills. It was her talent, along with her good looks, which recently landed her a campaign with Gucci. And a cover or two – both French Vogue and Elle.

Here she is at the premiere of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted at the Cannes Film Festival. Really, she’s beyond stunning, don’t you think?

Charlotte-Casaraghi

Let’s break down the key elements in her beauty look …

That hair: Since her dress has a frilly neckline, I would have originally recommended she go for something a little simpler. Perhaps something along the lines of a loose updo as to not take the attention away from her fabulous gown. In saying that, she blew me out of the water with those lustrous chocolatey-chestnut locks styled in loosely coiled curls sliding sexily over her left shoulder, which as you know, is both ridiculously gorgeous and ridiculously on trend at the moment (more on that soon).

Those eyes: Dark hair and light eyes make for one striking combination, Primpettes. She’s coordinated her eyeshadow to match her bottle-green coloured gown which I know goes against all the eyeshadow rules we’ve been talking about of late but really, when you look like that, it defies all sense of makeup logic. A smudge of eyeshadow along her upper and lower lash line and blended along the brow bone provides a sultry look, with a hint of champagne shimmer towards the inner corners. If you want to give this look a whirl at home, try Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream Eye Colour in Patina, $44, from department stores. It’s the perfect amount of pigment and it’s super-easy to apply with a brush, providing a gorgeous mossy green shade.

So, Charlotte aside for the time being, since we’re on the subject of Grace Kelly, would you get a load of Diane Kruger at the Nights In Monaco Gala Fundraiser dinner in Monte Carlo earlier this week?

Diane-Kruger

While word on the street is that Nicole Kidman is set to play the late Princess Grace in an upcoming biopic about her life, my vote is leaning towards Diane. Is she a Grace Kelly doppelgänger or what? From what we’ve seen from her at Cannes this week, she’s embodying every element of beauty we loved about the late Princess of Monaco, with a few modern touches. She’s got the dewy complexion down to a capital T, with a luminous and flawless base to the subtle pinky-peach blush swirled along the apple of her cheeks and swept up along her cheekbones. You can recreate it by mixing a little illuminator into your foundation and playing up your high points, but my current pick for a glowing base is Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser SPF15, $78, Mecca Cosmetica, which I suggest applying with a foundation brush, beginning in the centre of your face and working outwards, making sure you’re really polishing it into the skin. It’s divine. As for the more modern touches (I can’t imagine Princess Grace would wear metallics) for Diane’s shadow you want to softly press a bronze metallic eyeshadow or pigment along the lid and gently blend out to a wing. Skip the eyeliner and just add a few coats of mascara to really make the eyes pop. For the lips I’d suggest just a touch of tinted balm, nothing too heavy or glossy. Elegant, understated and just plain stunning.

Thoughts, Primpettes?

Loving these looks from Cannes?

Aren’t they both just heavenly?

Do you think Diane looks like Grace Kelly here?

Wow Charlotte is the spitting image of her beautiful mother! I think an updo would have done more justice to this look.

Diane is always so stunning and I would’ve thought the perfect person to play Grace Kelly.

What strikes me about these two gorgeous women is their flawless glowing skin. Thanks for the tip on recreating this look, might have to try mixing illuminator into foundation like you suggested. I would love to try using just a tinted moisturiser but am worried there will not be enough coverage.
I think Diane would portray Grace Kelly beautifully. She gets my vote!

Diane would be great, but I have always thought that January Jones would make a fantastic Grace Kelly!

Love the dewyness and it looks completely natural and incredibly healthy!

I REALLY hope Nicole Kidman doesn’t get the role – I can’t see her as Grace at all. Diane definitely is nailing the look right now – which is all fresh in my mind right now after visiting the Grace Kelly exhibition in Bendigo on the weekend!

Charlotte looks incredible – though when you’re that beautiful – must be hard to get it wrong really!

She looks so much like her mother! She is gorgeous. Diane would make a great Grace Kelly but Nicole would do a great job too I’m sure.

I am really amaze on how some people manage to maintain a gorgeous look as if they are always ready for the camera. the makeup they wear are perfect and even their nails look as if they have just come out of a nail salon.

She has the cheekbones – definitely in their genes. Wish I could look so preened, so effortlessly. Though I do wonder if it is effortless or not…
