The One Where I Find my Perfect Lipstick

Wed, 25 July 2012 11:49AM

Flashback to May last year, backstage at the Nina Ricci show. Makeup maestro Pat McGrath can’t find the perfect shade of salmon-pink lipstick to complement the pretty pastel clothes, so she custom-mixes her own lip colour, matching it to a swatch of fabric from the collection.

The result: a lipstick that everyone suddenly, madly swoons over – yet frustratingly can’t buy.

And my obsessive quest to find the perfect match begins.

Since then I’ve swatched my way through countless takes on pink lippie, and while I found a honeysuckle pink from M.A.C that did make my heart flutter, nothing quite satisfied that year-plus-long yearning for a Nina Ricci-worthy pout.

But guess what, Primpettes? I’ve finally found it!

Introducing Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Lipstick in #16

It somehow manages to be pretty, fresh and edgy all at once. Kind of like Kate herself, huh?

And because everything Kate touches turn to cool (except for Mr Doherty, perhaps), I thought you’d want to know about the rest of the new Kate-designed range, called The Iconic Spring Collection …

#3. aka the perfect nude. Creamy and caramelly.

#19. A rosy brown. The colour that will always look right in any situation. It’s the lipstick version of, say, a trench coat.

#20. Barbie in a lipstick: a vivid fuchsia-pink.

#22. A juicy cherry-red. An instant face-brightener-upperer.

#26. Another nude. But a sixties version. You know those yellowy ones that look a little concealer-like – in a good way! The kind you work back to a serious smoky eye.

Okay, so they look nice, you say. Good on them. But, I hear you wonder, how do they wear? Because lippie is like Spanx. No matter how fabulous it makes you look at first, you still want to feel comfy a few hours later.

Let me just say that it takes a lot for me to wear lipstick. It has to be both longish-lasting (around a half-day per pop) but moisturising as well. And while I know it’s best to apply lippie with a brush (paint one coat, tissue-blot, paint another, blah blah), I actually prefer to be able to draw it straight on from the tube, and for it to go on richly and evenly. Oh and it has to smell pleasant enough without being too much so. (Your mouth, after all, is smack-bang beneath your nostrils, so any lip product that is too scented can be a stomach-turner.)

See, I am one touch customer when it comes to lipstick. But these lippies? They tick every single one of my boxes. Oh and here’s the clincher: they’re only $11.95 each.

Nice work, Ms Moss.

What say you, Primpettes? Do you now share my obsession with a salmon-pink pout?

Do you already have any of the Kate Moss lippies?

And what’s your all-time-perfect lipstick?

Just bought #16 because of this and am in LOVE! The absolute perfect pink, my favourite among all my high-end lipsticks! Also cheekily bought #12 – a beautiful orangey red that looks amazing with a tan! xx
