Top 5: Brand spankin’ new celebrity-esque scents, Part 1.

Wed, 3 November 2010 3:30PM

Celebrity perfumes seem to be the flavour (scent?) of the week, Primps, what with Taylor Swizzle announcing she’s releasing a fragrance next year, and now this: a Top 5 round-up of newly released celebrity scents. And this is only Part 1, too. Yep, to save all of us from drowning in the EPIC amount of brand spankin’ new fragrances, I’m spreading them out over two days. Phew.

You ready? Then let’s dive into this lovely scented list, filled with those who are known for their vocal capabilities (or lack there of, depending on your tastes, of course).

No. 5: Avril Lavigne’s Forbidden Rose, $39.00 (30ml)

Now, I’m not too sure if Avril’s diving into the fragrance pond once again because her singing career is a wee bit nonexistent right now, but this slightly edgy-named fragrance is sure to be a fave amongst the younger punk-rockers out there. It’s not sickeningly sweet (which I LOVE), but it’s still quite bold. The bottle is a little bit tough, too, what with its black rose top and silver barb wire rim, but the purple hue of the fragrance still adds a somewhat girlie touch. It has fruity, floral and woody notes, including red apple, wine peach, vanilla, white lotus and sweet praline. Nice, Avril. SUPER FUN BONUS: You know that barb wire rim I mentioned? You can actually take it off and wear it as a ring. That’s two gifts in one, Primps!

No. 4: dvb Intimately Yours For Her, $50.00 (30ml)

Like Avril, Victoria Beckham hasn’t filled our airwaves for a looong time, but who can blame her. I mean, she has been crazy busy with all her fragrance making and fashion designing, hasn’t she? But this latest venture from the power couple is actually quite divine. It’s very sexy and seductive, and definitely not for the shy types. The complete floral oriental scent is ridiculously sensual, featuring freesia, pear leaves, orange flower petals, frangipani flower and sandalwood. Sounds beautiful, huh? Needless to say, I’m impressed with VB’s work, Primps. This scent is most certainly a goodie.

No. 3: Power by Fifty Cent, $49.00 (50ml)

Oh Fifty Cent, you are an absolutely corker. Your songs Candy Shop, P.I.M.P and 21 questions were The Bomb back in my high school days, and I find it a wee bit funny that you’re now getting in on the fragrance game, too. But hey, I don’t blame you. There’s lots of coin to be made and like you always said, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”. Ha ha ha! Anyway. This scent is for the boys, Primps, and if your man likes to think he’s strong and powerful like old mate Fifty, he’ll be a sucker for this one. The scent is deliciously sexy if I don’t say so myself, containing the fresh and vibrant notes of green citrus, lemon leaves, black pepper and nutmeg. Yum. Oh, and the bottle is pretty darn cool, too, with its black glass finish and chrome silver top. Fifty Cent, you’ve done good.

No. 2: Mariah Carey’s Lollipop Bling in Honey, Ribbon and Mine Again, $49.00 each (30ml)

Mariah Carey may be up the duff with her first child, but she’s also got three other new babies crawling around the place, going by the names of Honey, Ribbon and Mine Again. This latest release of fragrances from the girl with the EPIC voice is candy-inspired (obviously) and will be loved by all the sweet-smelling girlie girls. Mine Again is all about the touch of raspberry chocolate scent, Ribbon smells like blue raspberry with a lingering floral finish and Honey, well, she boasts notes of honey (surprisingly) and delicious pineapple. And, as with everything Mariah puts her name to, these puppies are all adorned with a butterfly cap. Too cute.

No. 1: Christina Aguilera’s Royal Desire, $59.00 (50ml)

Finally, we have the newly separated Christina and her rather provocative fragrance, Royal Desire. We all know Christina is big on the sex factor, so it’s not surprising that she’s gone down the sensual road with this one. However, this fragrance – which features notes of white marshmallow, blackberry, mandarin, honeysuckle, rose and musk – also has an elegant side. And just like Avril’s, it also features a little charm around its neck, which you can pop on a necklace or bracelet. Very charming indeed.

And speaking of Christina’s sex factor, you simply must watch the add for this fragrance. It’s, erm, definitely sexy…

Smelly Primps,

Are you keen on purchasing any of these scents?

To be quite honest, celebrity scents are not my thing, it actually puts me off because I don’t think they should be doing this, they should be concentrating on their music or acting.
My fave scent is Chanel Beige, L’eau D’Issay Miake & Estee Lauder Pleasures Exotic. Love them all.

I dislike fragrances created by celebs. They don’t smell as nice to me…too sweet and cheap.

I just finished mariah carey’s ribbon and actually won’t mind getting another bottle for daily casual wear and it smells nice and fresh. I paid $49.00 for it and with that price can’t complain. I used one that the smell can last longer for party or a night’s out with my friends.
