Video: My new dye job (and debaffling balayage)
Mon, 18 July 2011 4:31PM
When was the last time you switched-up your hair colour, Primps? I’m not talking an extreme change like Lauren Conrad’s multi-coloured dip-dyed ends, but, you know, a time where you stepped out of your comfort zone just to jazz up your look a little. For me, it was two weeks ago. Yep, just recently I went a wee bit bonkers and jumped aboard the balayage bandwagon.
I wasn’t alone on this mission either, Primps – fellow PRIMPED HQ resident, Tammy, came along for the ride, too. This was because a. She wanted to hold my hand as I bid a sad farewell to my shiny brunette strands and b. She’d been sporting an over-bleached mop for a few weeks and decided it was time for a more natural, darker dye job.
And guess what? We even filmed our little hair salon adventure. Why? Balayage is one of the most searched terms on PRIMPED so clearly it’s not only of interest to you guys, but still a tad confusing, too.
So watch on, Primps, as we pin down our stylist, Brett Albury, and demand he debunk all the confusion surrounding balayage. By the end of it, we’re hoping all of you will feel better equipped when it comes to asking for this style at the salon, too. (You can thank us with chocolates later.)

THE BALAYAGE VIDEO.
Ahhh, it all makes sense now. Thanks, Brett.
THE POST-BALAYAGE SNAP.
Don’t we look like happy chappies? That’s pretty much because we are. Brett did such a wonderful job, and having a stylist that is willing to part with their wisdom so you feel armed with loads of knowledge is absolutely priceless, Primps. Why? Because feeling comfortable in your stylist’s salon is insanely important.
Thank you, Suki Hairdressing. You did good; real good.
Primps,
Are you in the mood for a hair switch-up? Suki Hairdressing is offering $50 off a cut or colour right now if you’re located near Paddington or Newcastle. Pretty good, huh?
Did the video help unravel the balayage mystery for you?
What do you think of our new ‘dos?

Thank you for the video, was great to see more info on balyage. I too have a dark block colour so was great to hear how low-maintenance it would be if I choose to do this.

Thanks for explaining Balyage. I like the way that it’s blended into the hair and as your hair grows it does not show regrowth. It’s good low maintenance colour.

This video changed my life! Have been thinking about how to lift my honey-brown hair for a while, but being a hair virgin I was worried about the results. Looks like I’ll be asking for a balyage! Now to find the perfect celeb pic! Thanks Cherie!

I have had upper and lower legs (3 sesisons), underarms (4 sesisons) and bikini area (3 sesisons) treated with a machine similar to this one. It was 7 years ago and I am still hair free. There are leftovers here and there and I think it’s a coverage issue while being treated, I shave them once or twice a month. I am hairier than most people, with a Mediterranean skin complex. Before the treatments I would say I have spent average 4-5 hours every week to remove hair. This is my miracle!
