YSL To Change Its Name To “Saint Laurent Paris”

Fri, 22 June 2012 10:35AM

It’s near impossible not to fall in love with everything YSL creates. From their sky-high Tribute heel, to their tailored jackets, right down to their chunky cocktail rings, I’m yet to see a collection, handbag or accessory, that I  wouldn’t want to seriously consider trading in my car and apartment for. And don’t even get me started on their makeup.

Although here at PRIMPED, we love a beauty bargain just as much as the next girl, we’re also just as big a sucker for luxe skin care and makeup, and for good reason. While we get that not everyone can afford to blow their monthly salary on a new pair of YSL shoes, we’re firm believers that splurging on a YSL lipstick, or eye shadow on the other-hand, makes the dream of owning something designer, than much more attainable. Luckily for us, over the past few years, the emphasis on improving the availability and price of limited-edition designer makeup collections Down Under  has improved out of sight, which means you no longer have to wait for your sister to get back from New York or Paris to score you a limited edition compact or nail colour.

But it’s not just the  fancy, gold and black encased packaging that has us hooked. When it comes to predicting hair and makeup trends, it makes sense that we’d look to the major fashion houses, like Dior and YSL who are responsible for setting the pace each season on the runway. Speaking of the runway, today the beauty and fashion world was sent into a spin with the news that the new creative director for YSL, Heidi Slimane has decided to re-name the brand from Yves Saint Laurent, to Saint Laurent Paris, in a bid to bring the brand up to speed with younger folk and draw on its Parisian heritage.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of change (except, I couldn’t help but wonder if that now means that my YSL handbag and soon-to-be wedding shoes are worth more today then what I paid for them a few months back seeing as though they’re now technically vintage! Ker-ching!) so you can image my delight after discovering that the  makeup and skincare collections will continue to be adorned with the traditional mark of YSL, while the Saint Laurent Paris will only apply to the clothing collections starting from Spring Summer 2013. Phew!

Here are my top 3 YSL products that guarantee to make any grubby makeup bag appear approximately 87% more polished.

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch, $55. It’s often touted as a concealer, when actual fact it’s more of a brightening liquid that helps to bounce light off the skin to keep it looking… radiant. And unlike most creme-based products that can wear looking cakey, this one glides on like a dream making it a must for touch-ups on the go.

YSL La Lacque Long Lasting Nail Color, $39 each.
Nail polish is the fastest way to stay bang-on trend. Plus, these bottles are too fancy to stash away in a bathroom cupboard so you’ll want to keep them out on display on your dresser.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in No. 8 Orange De Chine, $50. It’s big on shine, boasts the same kind of creaminess you crave in a lippie, but wears like a tint.

Do you like to dabble in designer makeup collections?

Have you got an all time favourite splurge?

Ive tried YSL perfume, touche eclat and their lippies, which are luxurious and lovely. Hoever Saint Laurent Paris just doesnt have that ring to it. I wished they kept it as YSL

I have a YSL perfume and I’ve tried a mascara too which was quite nice. It’s hard to imagine it as SLP rather than YSL.

I love splurging. I feel like I’m really spiling myself. I use the YSL Top Secrets Flash Radiance Skincare Brush and YSL Beauty Sleep Serum.
I think a name change is going to be weird though. YSL just slips off the tongue. I don’t think they should change it.

I love YSL perfumes and Touche Eclat, I’d like to try YSL nailpolish and the new lipstain.

I’d love to own some chanel, clarins or lancome products but i cannot justify the price, unless it was hugely reduced in a sale, then I’d maybe consider it.

A sentimental favourite is Dior’s Autumn Rose lipstick which I bought from Harrod’s 20 years ago when backpacking. It was my first $$ beauty buy and I asked the girl on the counter to choose the perfect colour for me. I did get compliments every time I wore it. I thought the packaging was so beautiful. Being a lot older and wiser, I now realise there are so many fab makeup brands cheaper than the $$ ones which are equally very very good. We are truly spoilt for choise nowadays :)

When did they change their name??? They’ll always be YSL to me. I love their highlighting pen, and their lpstain.
