Make sure you love yourself sick before you leave the house each morning.

I mean it. What’s the point of doing all that fancy skin, hair and makeup work if you don’t take a few moments to admire your handiwork? There was a makeup brand I used to love called Tony & Tina (sadly now all finished) and they had a whole book dedicated to colour and vibrational energy and how that works with the colours you choose to wear in your makeup and how important positive energy is to feeling authentically beautiful, but they also had this one pager that I stuck on my wall that encouraged you to treat you makeup routine like a ritual of self-love, and with each thing you chose to accentuate on your face, to really love it and be grateful for it as you made it up.

They were dreaming.
I didn’t have time for that kind of double-rainbow gear.

But what that paper next to my mirror DID make me do, was to think of my makeup (and skin and hair) application as something more than just a perfunctory daily routine. Instead I started to see it as a lovely little routine that was pretty creative and fun to do, and made me feel Rather Good when it was all done.

And so. I challenge you to think of your daily beauty ritual as less of a necessity and less of a hassle and less of a time-eater, and more of a very special little moment all for you each day that allows you to create the most appropriate, perfect and ideal look for yourself that day, and then walk around feeling great because that pink lipstick really is terribly fetching and that blush does tremendous things for your cheekbones and that eye liner application is incredibly professional looking.

Be proud of your skills, be impressed with your work, be grateful to prodz you love for making you look awesome and love the hell out of yourself for putting in the effort each day to present to the world the best possible version of yourself.

Alternatively, (or additionally) you could just do what I do, and put up a massive reminder of how rad you look under your bathroom mirror.

Makes me (and anyone else who visits) feel real good. Like a little visual pat on the back for bothering to curl my lashes or apply sunscreen to my body, not just my face, each day. I used to have one in lipstick up the top of my mirror, which was cute-as. You could definitely copy that idea, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Do you love yourself enough in the mornings?
What about at night?
Mid afternoon?
Gonna vandalise your bathroom tonight? Landlords LOVE it. Trust me.

Whiteboard markers make for excellent, easily removable notes on mirrors. All the self love, none of the landlord hate :)

I love that idea – is that a sticker Zoe or did you write it on with whiteboard marker?!

My neurotic (but adorable) friend wrote “I am a calm, sane individual” on her mirror in an attempt to quell anxiety before exams. Because she choose to write it in bright red MAC lipstick while hungover with shaky hands, the desired effect wasn’t really achieved…

Yes. Yes and Yes. I was reading an article about French women and their beauty routines the other day, and unlike us, who approach our mirrors with a resigned yet practical air, French women see their routines as a time to revel and nurture themselves.

    I like this a lot.

Let’s be cool chickadees, and graceful and relaxed in front of the mirror. Let’s enjoy and twinkle!

Oh Zoe, this makes my heart sing! I love myself sick all day long and want everyone else to have the same self-love. It’s not narcissistic, it’s healthy.

Agree with this post wholeheartedly! And when the whole daily lovemyskin routine becomes too hard due to business, I try to squeeze in an at-home-facial where I primp and preen to hearts content!
