Rosehip oil: Now with orangutan preservation properties!

Fri, 14 August 2009 8:00AM

When I opened Trilogy’s latest press release, it went straight to the top of my ‘Blog On This’ pile, which is less a pile, and more an expanse of desk that could better be used for keyboards and mice and such things. Why? Because there were chords struck, and they were in the heart region.

Reason #1:

I don’t need to tell you all (again) how much I adore and love rosehip oil. It is one of the few products I have used since the BBE era (Before Beauty Editor) and continue to use now. Rosehip oil is lightweight, totally fine for sensitive skin, very hydrating, full of anti-aging antioxidants, makes skin soft and glowy and, if you ask nice, makes a mean cappuccino. I use it as a serum before my skin care, I massage it in for a few minutes like a mini-facial if my skin looks shiteous, I dab it onto my smile lines to plump them up and don’t even think about boarding a plane without it in my lil’ clear carry on baggy.

I’ve recommended it on every publication I’ve ever worked on, talk it up conversationally and often cite it as my ‘desert island’ product. (My ‘dessert island’ product is a spoon.)

So, you know, I’m always happy to receive a new bottle, because invariably I’m running low, and Trilogy’s certified organic version ($18.95, from pharmacies, Myer etc) is a beautiful product. (The whole brand is pretty great, actually. Made in Nu Zuland, owned by two marvelous women I’ve met several times and think are adorable, and full of well-priced, eco-minded, natural skin care.)

Reason #2

Interestingly, the second reason also pertains to an issue I like to bang on about, too. Orangutans. The Australian Orangutan Project has been my charity of choice for years. These little creatures are ALMOST EXTINCT and while I know we each have our very valid reasons for supporting the charities we do, I encourage you to consider flinging the rangas any cash you can so that when we’re old and taking our grandkids to the zoo on our hoverboards, we can actually show them a Real Live orangutan instead of a hologram of one. Instead of feeling like we did nothing to save these splendid primates, who share 97% DNA and a few grotty nose-picking habits with us.

Anyway! So Trilogy have teamed up with another wonderful ‘Ranga foundation, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, and all September are donating $1 from every sale of their rosehip oil (in Aus, NZ and the UK) to the foundation, to help our little ginger ninjas win out over deforestation.

They’ve even changed their packaging, placed a delightful little Orangutan on the front, so you can’t accidentally buy a non-ranga-helping rosehip next month.

I don’t usually explicitly ask you to buy specific products, but I am asking you to support this one if you can. You win good skin, and the orangutans win their survival – win-win!

Ok. Cue oxytoxin-inducing image to inspire feelings of charity and affection for orangutans:

… And while I’m tugging at cute strings, here’s one of Meowbert with the rosehip oil, looking concerned about the plight of his fellow orange-haired cousins.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and apologies for this box I’ve been standing on, which appears to be made of soap.
More celebrities with pretty hair coming right up!

PS. Come Christmas, may I suggest buying people you love orangutan adoption papers from one of the sites above? I may? Many thanks!

Yay for Trilogy! I’ve been using this rosehip oil for EVAH and this just makes it all the more ace. Look at those bubbies – and I would bet you a hungee that they’re better behaved than my human children.
And from a non-cat person, Meowbert is pretty cute.

    D’aww! Ranga and Meowbert <3

Is rosehip oil ok for oily and congested skin? I’d love to use it, but I’m so scared of making my already problematic skin even worse :(

ZF, can oily skins use rosehip oil too? The Clinique lady said we can’t but I am inclined to go by your word and not hers (Clinique doesnt have facial oils).

Perfect! I’m just about due for a new bottle. True story: I recently discovered rosehip is the BEST thing for a chapped flakey nose when you have The Cold From Hell.

  • Posted by: ZF // Fri, 14 August 2009 04:48pm

Bea, I think it should be ok… rosehip oil has a PH similar to our skin’s sebum and absorbs real fast. But… I don’t have oily skin so can’t comment from experience. (Don’t use on breakouts, btw. Use after to heal the skin and fade the scars, though.)

Tiger – as someone with the greasiest skin ever, you might want to give it a crack as a night time serum as oily skin can often be a bit dehydrated. Or, you could mix it with sweet almond oil and use it as an oil cleanser to thoroughly remove makeup. Oil cleansing is the business for oily skin.

This is a miracle!! It’s amazing! I tend to get really dry skin on the sides of my nose and it is definantly worth a try if you havn’t used it before.

I will be lining up for this – not only does it sound like an amazing product but Rangas must be my favourites in the whole world. I will definitely be looking up to sponsor …

Zoe, what do you think of jojoba oil for dry skin that occasionally breaks out? Do you think rosehip oil is better?
