Time to review that Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick…
Thu, 16 July 2009 6:14PM
You may remember a few weeks ago when I posted a blog (as opposed to a letterbomb – far less explosive) asking if anyone would like to test and review the new Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick? Well, the time has come when I now ask the lucky little crumpets who won the good gear to come forward and post their review.
I, for one, am very, very impressed with the:
A. Long lastabilityness (yep, you just read that). I drank and talked and it stayed. It was only when I ate a proper meal that I needed to re-apply, because the colour on the inner lip had gone, and it looked kind of tacky.
B. Depth of pigment and how easy it is to intensify and build up the colour intensity.
C. That it was the least drying of the long-last lip colours I’ve tried. No gammy build up in the mouth corners. I did have flaky lips after a day of wearing it, but I get that with any lipstick.
D. Amount of compliments it earned me.
From last Thursday to Tuesday this week, I wore Top Tomato every single day.
Proof:
Do you ever get into little makeup routines like that? It was like I forgot how to do eye makeup and could only apply bronzer, mascara and this lipstick. Weirdo. Of course, bloody Miranda Kerr went and copied me. As usual.
But enough about what I think and what I did.
All of you who were sent your two shades of Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick, please comment below and give us your review. And relax – we’ve upped the word limit especially for this occasion.

I couldn’t wait to get my little fingers on Revlon’s new Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick. It looks like a lipgloss, so I expected a high sheen gloss. But it’s a lipstick, so there’s no glossiness to it.
The lipstick doesn’t have a smell and I once applied it, it dried within seconds. It was slightly drying, but I found if I applied a lip balm on top of the Colorstay lipstick, I get the glossy feel I like and it gives it extra sheen.
The pigment of this lipstick is rich – so one coat is enough. When I removed it with make up remover, there was still plenty of pigment to take off. Also, the product does live to its claim. It stuck firm through a chicken laksa and a chai latte.
I’ve settled on #1 Nude, as it’s a beautiful taupe shade, with a hint of shy coral pink. It’s versatile and can be worn to work. It’s a great addition to my make up bag for days when I don’t want to go ultra-glossy or to be touching it up meticulously. I salute Revlon for making this great product

Can I just take a moment to gasp and flail my arms about? It’s just that I’ve been waiting all of my life for this to happen. You see I’ve been on a search. Since I was 14 I’ve been searching for The Perfect Lipstick. One that glides on smoothly, has a matte finish and *stays on all day* despite having to do basic human things like eating. And guess what? After all these years I’ve found it. The Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick does everything it says it would and more. Not only could I eat I could also kiss my boyfriend from head to toe (all in the name of science, ahem) and the lipstick did. Not. Move. My favourite moment this week was slinking into the bathroom at 10pm on Monday night bleary eyed and ready for bed and being startled to find my lipstick there – perfect. At 10pm. That’s 16 hours after my initial application!

I’ve never been a great fan of longwear lipsticks, they seem to have a strange consistency and sap the moisture the minute they hit my lips. So I was a little skeptical. When applied, the Revlon Colourstay Lipstick felt very sticky while the formula dried. Once applied, it definitely delivered on its promise and stayed in place for hours without touchups. It wasn’t until I ate lunch that it needed to be reapplied. I found the colour a little strong, guess I’m not used to wearing lipstick with high pigment! To combat the problem, I used the product as a lip stain, adding a little gloss over the top to avoid any case of chapped lips. I found this worked better for me, adding just a hint of colour that still lasted. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a strong punch of colour that will stay put, without leaving that horrible ‘ring of colour’ around the outer lips that regular lippie tends to do. All in all, a great product for longwear devotees!

Well I’m not a massive lipstick fan; I’m all about the lipgloss personally, but I have to say I was fairly impressed with Revlon’s Colorstay Ulitmate Liquid Lipstick.
It went on smooth and dried uber quick- although I would recommend a smear of lipbalm first, as it is a little drying. True to its word the colour lasted. And lasted. And lasted. Through uni, work, drinks with the girls and even the lip-chewingly intense Harry Potter movie.
I found that I wore it matte during the day, but when I needed a little extra gloss of an evening a quick swipe with the lipgloss wand was all I needed to boost it to high sheen fabulous.
The colour was bright and fun, the compliments abundant and flattering and the reapplication process non-existent.
Turns out I might be a lipstick fan after all… Thanks Zoe!

A woman’s quest for the perfect lipstick is much the same as for the perfect man: smooth, rich, not tacky and plenty of endurance. Ahem. I’m a follower of ‘intelligent’ lipsticks and was exited to try Revlon’s. Long lasting lipsticks are hit-and-miss, most products caking, drying too quickly etc. After applying, you have a couple of minutes before it starts to set, and in those minutes, you can blot for a more subtle effect, stay with the pearly effect from the tube or mattify. There’s also plenty of time to wipe it off if you make a mistake. It’s a little slow to completely set, but once it does, it feels like you’ve got bare lips and it really does last. Superb Sangria is a dramatic, warm red that’s not too dark, not too bright and emphasises the whole face. Premier Plum, works well as a nude for my olive skin, and gives the ‘cold lips’ effect I’m digging. Revlon delivers!

When my Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipsticks arrived, I was immediately drawn to the Regal Rose shade. It went on smooth and glossy and the colour from the applicator was impressively even- patchiness is a problem I’ve often encountered with liquid lipsticks.
The glossiness doesn’t last, but thankfully neither does the stickiness that follows it! After around 15 minutes the lipstick settles into a matte finish that isn’t too drying and doesn’t flake at the corners of the mouth. (cont..)

As for its staying power- durable doesn’t begin to describe it. As I tweeted- Survived: Toast, coffee, water…must find boy to kiss in name of research! (the last part was less successful). The colour was even there post-work out, which looked a little odd as the rest of my face had melted off.
Like Zoë, I wore this for almost a whole week. I don’t’ usually wear a lip colour to work and the odd thing was the amount of attention I received- “have you done something to your hair?” “are they new glasses?”- I even got a few free coffees at the cafe downstairs from my office! Definitely a product I’d revisit!

I have to admit, I am not a fan of long-lasting lipsticks. Perhaps this may have had something to do with me picking one up when they first came on the market about a decade ago and finding out that they went on like acrylic paints and cracked off within the hour. Finding lipstick flakes in your coffee? No thanks.
I commented out of curiosity and when I received the new Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a. they look like lipglosses b. they aren’t acrylic paints in a different packaging c. i really liked them!
I decide to test Brilliant Bordeaux in the ultimate setting: a day at the Good Food and Wine Show, where I will be tasting countless sips out of wine glasses and eating all sorts of food samples.

First of all I noticed that it went on very very smoothly, like a lipgloss! When it set, it had a slightly tacky feel and the colour looks evenly distributed. It was a good half hour before I had my first sip of wine and it left only a microscopic mark on the glass. About 10 tastings later, my partner confirmed that my lipstick was still in place. Time to hit the food – it endured most kinds of food but didn’t like so much the oily, fried stuff. I had to reapply after eating a samosa, and the rest of it lasted to the end of the day. Well done!
My lips were a little dry by the time I got home, but that happens with most lipsticks I use. Overall I was really impressed with how far the technology has come and although I still haven’t convinced the man to let me smooch him in public with bright red lipstick on, I am now a convert.

I’m more of a lip gloss fan than lipstick, in fact most of the time my lips are bare other than paw paw. I’m ready to start giving lipstick a go and this was the perfect chance!
My two Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipsticks glided on with the ease of a lip gloss, and were bright enough that I only needed one coat on the first application. It went a little dry byt he night so I used my clear gloss for some extra shine. The colour lasted all day and stayed on even after I ate & drank. I’m a first timer when it comes to lipstick so I can’t really compare it to many other brands but this was the perfect way to start and I’ll definitely keep wearing it! Thanks Zoë and Primped!

I love a good challenge, so when a lipstick starts shouting from the rooftops about being all long-wearing and ultra-conditioning, you can bet I’m going to load up my lips and give it a chance to prove its worth.
The Application: The product feels moist (but lightweight) upon application but dries very quickly and actually turned quite sticky. Because of this, I did feel the need to slick a generous helping of Juicy Tube goodness on top to give me that glossy, moisturised feel that I love.
The Stay-ability Test: Due to said lip gloss application, I can’t give a completely accurate review on the “stayability” of the product alone but I can tell you that with a clear gloss whacked on top my lips maintained a lovely dark pinky-red stain from about 8am til 7pm. That’s a bloody good effort from a lipstick, particularly since I scoffed down breakfast, lunch and about 150 Caramello Koala’s in that time!

I tried Supreme Sienna but the one that kept my attention was Regal Rose – a really beautiful, punchy shade that worked very well with my fair to medium complexion. I’ve got quite naturally pale lips so I love a good stain to add a bit of intensity.
The Verdict: I’ll still always be more of a gloss lover than a lipstick queen, but Revlon have totally nailed it with this fab addition to their bevy of products. Great range of colours to choose from, excellent price, able to be chucked in handbag without leakage, and all in all (with a tiny helping hand from your fave gloss) an absolute winner.

As someone that has only recently started wearing lipstick, I was excited to try these. The pigmentation is excellent and the staying power is exceptional. I managed to eat and drink and it still didn’t come off. I was impressed to discover that it didn’t dry to a chalky dry feeling which was nice tho it did seem to dry a little sticky on me. The consistancy is quite thin so it is easy to spread and I had the most success with wiping most of the product off the applicator and applying it in thin coats as this gave a more even colour and no build up of globs of product. It is perhaps a bit dryer than I am used to (as an avid lover of gloss and balm) but I love how this turns to a stain-like finish when worn with gloss or balm over it!
Unfortunately, the Supreme Sienna (No 85) shade made me look like a bad 90s throwback but the Regal Rose (No 20) is beautiful and has been regularly appearing on my lips since I received it.

I’m definitely a lipgloss gal so I thought I’d give it a go because I don’t use anything else on my lips as a rule.
I tried Top Notch Tulip and loved it! I love that it stays on for soooo long – through meals, etc – and it’s also quite moist, so doesn’t leave your lips dry at all.
The packaging and brush are nice and simple too. I’d imagine that it would last for quite a long time before you’d have to buy a new one, which is always a bonus.
Overall, this is a great product for lipstick wearers and nonwearers alike, it’s a great lippy!

1 word… sexy! Revlon colorstay lip gloss is hot. At first it goes on wet but then dries to a nice colour with plenty of moisture. The major
bonus is it doesn’t stay sticky like other glosses. I put this on in the morning and after lunch the colour was still there. WOW. Also love
the packaging, love the colour and love the look.

Oh yay, I really liked this.. I’ll be honest, I’ve always been a little bit frightened by long-wearing lip colours because of the drying factor, and I am a gloss girl through and through. Before I first used this, I exfoliated my lips and slathered them in lipbalm overnight, and didn’t have any problems with this drying them out the next day. I have worn this frequently over the past week or so, which is a Very Big Thing for a girl like me that never plays favourites with lip products!
It didn’t ball, crease, feather or bleed and the wearability was impressive – it faded a bit after eating but even once the colour had settled/blotted off a bit, it didn’t come off unevenly and it didn’t look manky as the day wore on. I actually quite liked letting the colour fade to more of a matte stain and then applying a clear gloss over the top regularly.

(2/2 …how embarrassment, I totes have the verbal runs)
Not a gripe, it’s my own personal incompetence, but when I applied it, I had to be so careful to colour inside the lines, because if I slipped or smudged, it was there to STAY.
Best Bubbly is like a shimmery terracotta, and I didn’t love it as much as Premium Pink, but I think it will be 600 times better for me when I’m all spray tanned and bronzed up. Premium Pink was a fab colour for me – I would call this a medium pinky red. I loved it, it brightened my face, it made me look at least three times prettier when I went out on Saturday night. Nice one Revlon. Nice one Primped.
PS. Colour transfer was actually really fair when I pashed boyfriend in public – which made me a little sad, I like embarrassing him by smearing lipstick on his face.

I always been wary of long lasting lip formulars, finding that they only exaggerate how dry and cracked my lips look.
Fortunatly these babies are different. I found that both colours ( Top Notch Tulip and Brilliant Bordeaux) lasted well, although by lunchtime Top Notch Tulip always seemed more faded than Brilliant Bodeaux.
I also prefered to apply two thin coats blotted down to a stain as one thicker coat felt sticky and took a long time to dry.
Overall, I really like these, especially Brilliant Bodeaux which turns a beautiful berry shade on my extremely fair skin. Thanks Primped!

I was excited when I opened my mailbox to find a sleek Primped parcel containing two Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Liquid Lipsticks. Enclosed were Premium Pink ( a true sheer pink) and Superb Sangria (a deep, borderline rusty browney-nude).
Of course it didn’t take long before I took these for a test run. For reference, I’m a fair skinned red-haired raven, so I was pretty chuffed that the shades arrived were perfect for my colouring.
First impressions of the liquid lipsticks were that they did indeed live up to their staying-power claims. The Superb Sangria had to be removed with some trusty lip and eye makeup remover. The Premium Pink was a lot easier to remove.
The colour lasted throughout the day but unfortunately as much as I wanted to love these lipsticks I was disappointed by the dry grainy feeling they left of my lips after application.

First Impressions:
Has a sponge applicator which with some lip glosses I have found makes the product a bit clumpy but not so with this one. Because its a liquid, its easy to spread and to get an even colour all over. After application, it dries quickly and once dry doesn’t rub off (I tested with my fingers). The colour absorbs quite quickly. It doesnt sit heavily on top of the lips like some lipsticks, however, because of the darkness of colour (Top Notch Tulip) I could see I need to do a bit more work on my lips (i.e. Scrubbing and moisturizing those bad boys). I used 2 layers of lipstick just to build the colour a bit more. It goes on light but with noticeably strong colour. Easy to build up.

After coffee:
Colour is as good as when first applied. Definitely need to condition lips before use. My lips are noticeably dryer. While drinking coffee, the only mark from the lippy on the cup was a very faint line from the bottom of my lips. Much less lippy mark than usual though. Would be perfect for an event when you are going to de drinking and eating a lot as the colour stays true.
After dinner:
Still true to colour after eating dinner. Lips started feeling a touch dry so I put a moisturizing balm over the top. Usually when I put lip balm over the top of colour, the colour transfers onto my stick of lip balm, but the colour stayed on my lips and didn’t come off. Putting lip balm on top helped the dryness I was feeling. The colour survived kissing my boyfriend, and he didnt complain about the feel of the lippy, as he does when I wear sticky gloss. (Wasn’t a fan of the colour, but ce la vie).

After a full day of wear:
No white bits in the corner of my mouth, no clumping, no flaking, no noticeable colour fade, no transfer of colour onto any other surface, not sticky after application.
Conclusion:
Fantastic colour last. It most definitely lives up to its name. The only thing I would say is to make sure you do some exfoliating and moisturizing before applying this lipstick (well any lipstick really). I had the Top Notch Tulip and Regal Rose. Both were beautiful colours, perfect for a night out. I wore both during the day and they are a bit heavier than what I would ordinarily wear during the day. I am very keen to get my hands on the lighter colours once on sale for everyday wear. I would most definitely recommend this lipstick and strongly encourage you all to buy it. I’m seriously considering buying one in every colour, they all look so good.
(Sorry it went for 3 comments…I’m writing a thesis atm so I’m in lengthy writing mode)

I have to say I had pretty high expectations for this little number, and, well, it was pretty damn good. If I had to give it a school report, it might make an A-. Before I left the house it would have been closer to a B- but Colourstay has won me over. Firstly I have to say I received two quite dark colours that don’t reeeally suit my skintone, Regal Rose and Best Bubbly, but for the sake of a legitimate review I loaded up on bronzer and creamy gold shadow and dared to wear Best Bubbly, a frosty terracotta shade. For someone who isn’t a fan ‘frosty’ lipsticks, I was impressed- the colour was really rich and shimmery. Also, I have to say, although dark shades aren’t my usual, boy it made me feel like a grown up- plus it scored me a compliment!

I did find initial application a little messier than regular lippy, but because it’s liquid it was easy as pie to fix up. And boy did this baby stick. Good one Revvers. This could be a great starter lippy for someone crossing over from the glossy side- the familiar sponge applicator for starters, as well as the shimmery-ness, the moisture factor, buildable colour and the fact it is reasonably low maintenance. Overall, it’s thumbs up from me!

It survived food, drink & smooches.
Not Hydrating Enough. lip lines were accentuated like never before. Weird smell when wet, no smell once dry.The only thing I liked about it was the shade (Perfect Peony). I’d rather touch up with a hydrating lipstick to be honest.

What’s tacky is that Revlon still test on animals. As do a lot of the big names. I think many people re under the impression that animal testing is no longer an issue. Sadly, it’s alive and well. Revlon and many other common brands still do it.
No thanks.
