Oh, don’t you just love a new beauty trend, Primpers? Sure, rose gold isn’t brand, brand new, but the products are starting to roll out in all sorts of shades, making this trend easily accessible and fun to play with. My advice? Work it into your eyes, nails, cheeks or lips, and choose which tone of rose gold works best with your skintone. From soft pinks with gold flecks to true rose golds, we’ve got you covered here. Let’s take a look at the product options.

And here are the notes…

Rose Gold Buy #1: Miss Frou Frou Nail Polish in Vintage Penny, $19.95, (02) 9360 2869

This bronzy-rose nail polish is a little Mad Men meets Star Wars. It’s slightly more bronze than pink, and comes with a lovely metallic finish. Wear in on your fingers, toes or as a part of your nail art master plan. Whatever you do, just wear it. It’s fab!

Rose Gold Buy #2: Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Rose Quartz, $44, youngbloodmineralcosmetics.com.au

Ahh, my personal favourite cream blush that just gives you an instant ‘I’ve had 28 hours of sleep’ kind of look. It’s the perfect colour, texture and finish and I can’t leave the house without it. I’m hooked. Simply blend into your cheeks and watch your cheekbones come to life.

Rose Gold Buy #3: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Radiance Blush in Blushing Pink, $40, 1800 015 500

If powder blush is more your thing try this rose-y shade here. Speckled with gold flecks to help your skin glow, this pinky-meets-rosey option looks lovely on really fair skin. Work it back with a soft gold eye shadow, mascara and a lovely pale rose gold lip.

Rose Gold Buy #4: YSL Marrakesh Sunset Palette, $99, 1800 651 991

While the festive purple shade of shadow is exciting, it’s clearly not rose gold. So let’s discuss the delightful option in the bottom left hand corner that’s just waiting to be popped on an eyelid and paired with mascara. Go on, give it a go…

Rose Gold Buy #5: L’Oreal Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick in Permanent Blush, $29.95, 1300 659 359

And finally, we have the lips. While rose gold is a pretty broad term for anything rosy and gold, this lipgloss works perfectly no matter what your direction. It lasts the day, isn’t too sticky and is the ideal finishing touch to your fancy new look. LOVE!

Tell me Primpers…

What do you think of the rose gold trend?

Any of these take your eye?

If you’re anything like me, you smother your morning toast with vegemite and avocado, your desk is covered in 87 post-it notes, and you’re obsessed with any cream that promises to make you look younger than your years.

Are you still with me? Then I have an inkling that you’ll want to know about some of the latest anti-ageing buys that have recently hit beauty counters … Jot them down on a post-it at once!

Avon Anew Clinical Pro Line Corrector, $65, 1800 646 000

This creamy serum is packed with a protein molecule – known as A-F33 – that works to stimulate slackening collagen, and in turn whittle away wrinkles. Avon promises results in two weeks. My findings? I slathered this onto my forehead for a fortnight, and did indeed see a softening of my lines. It wasn’t a total wipe-out – keep in mind these forehead lines are expression ones so they’ll usually be there in some shape, way or form – but it was enough to impress me. If you have lines anywhere on your face that are bothering you, this is definitely worth a whirl.

Priori Cellular Recovery Serum, $220, 1800 808 993

Priori’s number-one Australian best-seller has just had a formulation upgrade – short story: it now features vitamins C and E, along with anti-inflammatories – but it’s still mostly all about DNA repair enzymes. You see, regardless of how diligent you are with your sunscreen and antioxidants, free radicals can still slip into the skin where they wreak some nasty DNA damage. And as we age, our cells are less able to defend and repair themselves. Enter Priori’s hand-picked botanical and microbial enzymes, which come in and reinforce our own defence enzymes. If your budget can stretch to this serum, it’s a very worthy addition to anyone’s anti-ageing routine.

Philosophy Miracle Worker Anti-Aging Retinoid Eye Repair, $60, David Jones

In my humble opinion, there aren’t enough retinoids in eyecare. Mostly because this area is so delicate and irritation-prone, and vitamin A is such an active ingredient. So when I hear of a new eye cream that features retinoids specially formulated for this area, it’s a no-brainer for me. You see, retinoids are amazing for pepping up collagen, thereby smoothing out crow’s feet; they also thicken up the epidermis, meaning that blood vessels won’t show through as much … cue lighter dark circles. While this eye cream might be a little strong for super-sensitive types, I personally have enjoyed using it – it has not only gently smoothed out and brightened up the skin around my eyes, but its thick, silky texture has provided a great base for my makeup.

Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Cream, $82, Kit

So you might have heard talk around the beauty traps about plant stem cells. Basically, these keep plants in repair and regeneration mode. There’s a belief that treating skin with these stem cells can back up our own stem cells – which are found near the fibroblasts in the dermal layer, where they work to regenerate skin … until they start to run out of puff as we age. At the very least, plant stem cells are rich in antioxidants, which is always a great thing for ageing skin, right? This particular cream boasts raspberry plant stem cells, and claims to strengthen skin. I’ve most definitely seen and felt an improvement in my skin since using this a few weeks ago – it’s generally firmer and a little bouncier. Which is always a welcome thing in my books!

Tell us, Primpers, what anti-ageing buys are you currently using and loving?

And how good is vegemite & avocado toast?

It’s not every day that you find a celebrity with the same name as you. Okay, so I know she spells Hayley without the y, but considering nearly every person in the universe misses the y or adds an I when they write my name, I figure we’re pretty much the same.

Except for that whole celebrity thing. That’s our main point of difference, obviously. And the fact that she can sing. Unfortunately, I can’t hold a tune.

Let’s rewind, shall we? You’re probably thinking to yourselves ‘who is this Haley bird?’ or, preferably, ‘we’re quite happy with the Hayley we already have here on PRIMPED.’ Ha!

Allow me to give you a little refresher, Primpers. She made her debut role in a film with Hugh Grant called Music & Lyrics, circa 2007, where she played a pop singer.

Here she is, having a moment with Hugh, also known as my favourite actor. Ever. It’s meant to be.

Since then, she’s starred in a string of films, and even dyed her hair blonde, which IMO looks rather fetching.

However, it wasn’t until earlier this year when she stepped out at the premiere of the film Deep Powder that I stood up and took notice. I quickly realised that we had a new beauty muse on our hands, Primpers …

Can you deal? I mean, look at that gorgeous shade of red, and that perfectly tousled I-just-pulled-my-hair-up-and-managed-to-make-it-look-amazing updo. And don’t even get me started on the pretty porcelain skin, with a touch of peach blush blended over the apples of her cheeks. And, of course, the black mascara to provide a striking contrast to her bright green eyes. Swoon.

Her ravishing red-carpet run continued. She went all smouldering and sexy for a Chanel dinner last month, with tousled, textured waves and a softly smudged smoky eye, cleverly brightening up her eye area with white kohl liner along the waterline.

And then, of course, she attended the premiere of The Bling Ring, inspiring us all with that delightful matchy-matchy cheek and lip. Plus, that on-trend faux bob straight out of a scene of The Great Gatsby, complete with soft face-framing curls.

I’m telling you, Primpers, this girl should be on your beauty radar.

Fun fact: I’m a little sad to say Primpers that her name isn’t Haley Bennett at all. She was born Haley Keeling, but changed it to Bennett when she became an actress. Close enough.

What do you think of Haley’s beauty style?

Do you prefer her hair dark, blonde, or red?

Got a favourite look here?

The other Hayley Bennett x

It seemed to happen overnight. One morning, as I was going through my usual mane-maintenance routine, I realised that I suddenly had really rather long hair.

Ever since this revelation, I have had to rethink my hair regimen. My locks have become so long that attempting my once signature style – a textured, beachy look – simply leaves me with knotty, gnarly, not-very-nice-at-all hair.

You see, when you have lots of hair, there are so many more chances for it to twist and tangle around itself. Something, I’m sure, Girls actress Jemima Kirke knows all about.

Sound like you, too? If so, I’m here to help! Here’s what I do in order to keep my hair tangle-free …

1. Brush hair before washing it. You see, the shampooing process can dry hair out a little, making for strands that are more likely to catch each other and knot up. So it pays to make sure that your locks are a knot-free zone before you hit the shower. Tip: when brushing long hair, never brush from the roots down, as this can compound any knots on the way. Instead, brush the ends, then work up in stages. This means you can zone in on any knots and more easily work through them.

2. Treat hair before shampooing it. I’ve added in the pre-shampoo step of treating the ends and mid-lengths of my hair with an oil (namely, Kérastase Paris Elixir Ultime Les Grand Crus, $55, salons). Again, this smooths hair, making it less likely to knot up during shampooing.

3. Use smoothing haircare. I’m currently in love with the new crop of keratin-based haircare ranges. As you might know, keratin is a protein, and one that can be stripped during the colouring process. So, shampoo and conditioner that have been formulated with this protein help to reinforce weak hair fibres, which in turn makes strands strong and smooth. Sold? Thought so! Check out these new ranges:

Matrix Biolage Advanced Keratindose Shampoo & Conditioner, $29 each

Organix Shampoo & Conditioner, $19.99 each, Coles

Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner (below), $11.49 each, pharmacies

4. Leave conditioner on for a few minutes. Most conditioners require this much time to work to full effect – AKA leave hair soft and supple.

5. Try a Tangle Teezer. This genius flexy brush manages to do what it promises – tease out tangles – in next to no time, and with next to no pain. I use it to work through my conditioner, and then once again after rinsing conditioner out. My favourite is the ‘Aqua Splash’ Tangle Teezer, which has been especially created for use in the shower; it’s $32.95 – call 03 9848 8388 for stockists.

6. Lavish hair in styling product. Whether you use a silicone-based serum or a leave-in blow-dry cream, such a styling aid works to coat and condition individual hairs, meaning they’ll be less likely to get caught up as you blow-dry them. Speaking of which …

7. Blow-dry like a pro. The only way you’ll get swishy, swingy, silky hair is if you take the time to style it that way. Using a paddle brush and a hairdryer (complete with nozzle), section hair into several tiers, and work across each tier in three to four sections. With the brush underneath each section, always aim the dryer nozzle on top, pointing downwards, to encourage the cuticle to lie flat (and the hair strand to stay smooth). Pack your brush in your bag so you can smooth things out during the day as needed.

8. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. Seriously! Cotton pillowcases can snag and rough up the hair cuticles; however a smoother surface will mean that your hair will slip and slide over it, rather than snagging and roughing up the hair cuticles.

Tell us, Primpers, do you have any detangling tips of your own?

A funny thing happened when our television broke. It turned my viewing on its head. Which made for one killer headstand – and a re-think about what I watch and when I watch it.

Enter, the iPad. For all of you who are not familiar with this phenomenon, you’re kidding, right? No, in all seriousness, my iPad – and more importantly iTunes account – has allowed me to iBall anything iDamn well please when iDamn well like.

Television series are my view of choice, and from the women of Downton Abbey, to those of Madison Avenue and Boardwalk Empire, we’ve picked apart my favourite looks, squished them into this here keyboard and sent them to you at PRIMPED.

But now, it’s really game on. Game of Thrones is my most recent viewing indulgence, and with season three completing weeks of sweeping, epic, violent and lust-full whirlwind watching, the women of this series once again proved the most indelible.

Based on a series of medieval fantasy books (stay with me. We are not talking Hermione Granger here), G.O.T is loosely about five rich, powerful and influential families fighting to the (often gruesome) death in order to seek complete power of all kingdoms from the comfort of the Iron Throne.

Within each kingdom there are powerful, evil or completely kick-ass women. And they are beautiful. By no means do I encourage you to Get Their Look. There really is no way of modernising medieval. And if there is, I am still waiting for the memo on that one. But whether there is blood on their hands or dragon droppings at the heels these women are killer. Here are their high points:

Sansa Stark

The eldest daughter of the Stark dynasty, Sansa (played by Sophie Turner) is introduced as the innocent in season one. And her look continues to maintain this virginal thread – even when she is forced into a loveless marriage in season three. Boring! Let’s look at that glossy hair, will ya? Delish. Give hair lots of love with L’Oreal Mythic Oil Couture Edition, $38, from pharmacies and Priceline, which combines avocado and grape seed oil to keep tresses tamed and anything but tawdry.

Daenerys Targaryen

The ‘Mother of Dragons’, Dany, (one of our girls of the moment, Emilia Clarke) is something else. She’s been tortured by a brother and widowed by a warrior husband, all looking after three naughty little dragons whilst attempting to man up an army big enough to lead her to the throne. Phew! This pale-haired, blonde-browed beauty can be forgiven for indulging in the lighter side of beauty. The Body Shop Dragon Fruit Lip Butter, $9.95, from The Body Shop, would be just dessert for her kisser.

Margaery Tyrell

A saucy minx of the middle age, Margaery, played by actress Natalie Dormer, shows a lot of skin for someone betrothed to a king. Deep-cut dresses and even some midriff moments mean that – aside from bathing in fine jewels, gold and most probably the milk of a million virgin swans – only a cream fit for a queen will do. Paco Rabanne Lady Million Queen Size Body Cream, $112, from department stores, sounds perfect, right?

So Primpettes, are you Throne fans?

Are you absolutely appalled at my thinly veiled attempt to dilute this epic series into a beauty blog?

Is it obvious I just want another avenue to bang on about this brilliant series?

When we heard that Schwarzkopf is once again on its annual search for Australia’s Most Beautiful Hair, we got to chatting here at PRIMPED about who we think wears the crown of this country’s best tresses (almost literally).

And we came up with three serious contenders. Step up to the podium please …

Jessica Gomes

Delta Goodrem

Isla Fisher

We decided that the luminous Jess Gomes probably wins it for us … but only by a hair’s breadth (ha!). Because Delta and Isla are maginifcently tressed in their own ways.

And yet … if you look closely at all three finalists (in this very unscientifically based PRIMPED competition), you’ll notice that they all share similar attributes. Which could very well make up the formula for beautiful hair. So let’s talk it through, shall we?

Their hair, regardless of actual colour, is super-shiny. Most likely because they keep their strands in tip-top condition, pampering them with the correct haircare for their type, and indulging in regular treatments, either at the salon or at home. Another key to high-shine, of course, is a finishing product to gives great gleam – think a silicone-based serum or a spray-on gloss.

Again, while their actual haircolour varies, they’ve all gone for a multi-faceted approach, be that via balayage (in Jess’s case, where caramel has been whisked through the ends of her dark-chocolate hair) or a scattering of highlights that help to pick up light and bounce it around, making for a more lively, lustrous look.

Loose waves that tumble down from a centre part is a classic, can’t-go-wrong style. Either use a wand to randomly curl and kink large sections of hair, or blow-dry using a large round brush, twisting and twirling it through the ends as you go. Oh, and make sure to keep hair at the crown smooth, as it’s the balance between sleek and textured that is the key to keeping everything looking modern.

Even though these gorgeous girls have obviously styled their hair (or, ahem, had someone do it for them), their ‘dos aren’t textbook-perfect. It’s hair that looks like it moves and swings and swishes. And if the curls end up dropping a little, or getting caught up, they’re all the more gorgeous for it. So if you’re after a beautiful hair look, forget tricking your tresses up into an intricate style; instead go for something you can run your hands through and have fun with.

Long hair tends to steal the spotlight (it makes sense: the more hair you have, the more you have to show off!), however Delta proves that long-bob styles can also hold their own – and, incidentally, hold a style well, as this length of hair will not drag you down (literally!). Think not so much quantity, as quality.

Tell us, Primpers, what do you think are the secrets to beautiful hair?

Are you going to enter the competition this year?

Whether you are tapping away at your keyboard or using your hands for manual labour, there’s a good chance that they are currently feeling dry, a little rough and you may even have split (and sore) cuticles. Thanks ever so much, winter, and your colder-than-cold temperatures.

But never fear, Primpers, the best way to keep your hands in tip-top condition this season is to up the ante on your hand-care routine, ensuring that your mittens – and nails – are well-hydrated for the chilly days ahead.

Invest in a Pair of Gloves

If you’re spending the morning on public transport, or even driving, it’s a good idea to don a pair of fashionable gloves to protect your skin from the elements, while keeping them warm at the same time. And when it comes to doing the dishes – it’s super-important to ensure that you are wearing rubber gloves. The combination of hot water and chemical-laced detergents can not only dry out your hands, but also irritate sensitive skin, too.

Start an Exfoliation Routine

Just as exfoliating your legs, arm and face buffs away dry skin build-up to reveal a softer, smoother complexion, the same goes for your hands, too. Shy away from any harsh exfoliants, and instead go for one that will be a little more gentle on your skin, like the Natio Spa Recovery Hand Scrub, $10.95, from Myer. Grab a loofah and gently massage the scrub between your hands and fingers in a light circular motion, which will also help to boost circulation. And, like facial exfoliation, it will better absorb the hand cream which is set to follow …

Try a Rich Hand Cream

Quickly splashing some lotion before bed might not be enough to keep your mitts dry skin-free this winter, so ensure that you are regularly applying a rich, hydrating hand cream throughout the day. If you’re in the market for a new one, we love the L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream, from $12, from L’Occitane. Enriched with shea butter, which helps to lock in and retain moisture, and a sweet-smelling and moisture-rich blend of honey and sweet almond extract, I slather this on to help relieve dry skin while also keeping my nails and cuticles soft and malleable.

Use a Cuticle Oil

There’s no use in having soft, and well-cared for hands without having beautiful nail beds, too. I don’t know about you, by my cuticles have the tendency to split and become super-dry during winter, so keeping them well-hydrated is a must. While you can find out all the Do’s and Don’ts for your cuticles here, apply a cuticle oil, like Orly Australia Cuticle Oil +, $19.95, 1300 769 355, and massage it in to both your nail beds and cuticles at regular intervals.

Indulge in a Hand Treatment

If you’re planning on applying a moisture-rich face mask anytime soon, why not try the same with your hands? Grab two damp hand towels and put them in the microwave for around 30 seconds each. While you’re waiting, rub in some super-hydrating hand cream, before wrapping your hands in the warm towels and leaving them for 10 minutes. The result? Super-soft (and warm!) hands.

The first thing I do in the morning, makeup-wise, is draw on my eyebrows.

You see, I have naturally blonde hair, and the super-pale brows (and lashes) that tend to be thrown in as a gift-with-purchase from Mother Nature.

Now, I usually side with Ma Nature, a wise old chick who tends to know what best flatters our features. That’s why, as much as I would love to be a brunette, I’ve never actually crossed to the dark side. Short story: the haircolour simply doesn’t suit my skintone. (Long story: dark hair has a habit of bringing out any flaws in the skin, which is why deeper-hued complexions tend to hold up best; blonde hair, however, kind of visually blurs things like rosacea, which I joyfully have).

But, when it comes to my brows, I’m quite prepared to fight Mrs Nature. Because I can’t help feeling naked with so-blonde-they’re-barely-there brows and lashes. I actually can’t bring myself to step out of the door if I haven’t dolled up my lashes, or powdered up my brows. So essential are strong brows and lashes for me that creating them features higher on my morning to-do list than applying foundation, spritzing on perfume, brewing some chai and feeding the dog (sorry, Daisy!).

I think most blondes will agree with me that the pale-lashed look only really suits sixteen year olds … on a catwalk. As for brows, however, this one’s not so black & white (or, dark & pale – ha!). Because there seems to be a growing contingent of blondes choosing to forgo brow pencil and powder – and who are possibly even asking their colourist to match their arches exactly to their flaxen hair.

Cases in point (L-R, below): Lindsay Ellingson, Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow.

I’m in two minds about the trend. On one hand, it most certainly puts the focus on your eye makeup (and the more statement your eye, the less you’ll notice what’s going on up above). But, on the other hand, I can’t help subscribing to the school of makeup thought that says brows should be dark enough to frame your eyes (and your work-of-art eye makeup), as well as give some oomph to your features, especially if those features are the soft type that usually come along for the blonde hair ride.

Me, I tend to brush on a powder that is about two shades darker than my blonde hair. It might sound like a lot, but it’s actually nothing extreme at all. It’s along the lines of the lovelies below: Jessica Hart, Carey Mulligan and Anne V.

See how they’re wearing just enough brow colour for their arches to be noticeable, yet their brows are not so heavy that they take too much attention away from their eyes. After all, if the eyes are the proverbial windows, you want people to stare at the view, not the curtains, right?

Tell me, Primpers, what do you think of the Blonde Hair, Blonde Brows trend?

If you have blonde hair, what’s your brow strategy?
