  • great post.

    love the last line:
"But it isn't, really, a choice any more, is it? It's an expectation and that is far, far more unattractive than a hairy arm pit."

    that is so true.

I do shave my underarms. I don't even bother shaving my legs in winter, and I occasionally shave or wax down there. not too fussed as long as its not TOO long.

but I'm currently studying to become a beauty therapist and at the moment, waxing.
and I was pretty shocked by what the other girls in my class said. they say they're disgusted, hate hair.
some said the shave all over, every single day. others get waxed or even IPL and spend ridiculous amounts.
most shocking to me was one girl said her husband would not touch her if she had hair.
If my boyfriend/husband said that to me I would probably ditch him.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit of a hippy. I just don't get why people are so disgusted by hair. and sweating!
its like people use antiperspirants without a single thought of how it could be affecting their health.

  • Meh, I don't think it's that nice to look at, but that is because society has conditioned people to think that way. I wouldn't personally do it, but the women who do aren't hurting anyone, so I'm not particularly concerned by it.

Do what makes you happy people!!

  • I have to admit it's not very pretty. :P

I'm not a big fan of hair myself..so I do my underarms every day and legs once a week or so.

But I agree, SB, I wouldn't be with a guy who told me that. Also agree, Adrienne, we should just all do what makes us happy! :)

  • I don't think it looks attractive but I think women should be free to choose. I think society comes down a bit hard on hairy armpits - who can forget the furore over Julia Robert's hairy armpits at the Oscars a few years back!

  • Or when Queen Latifah (I think) had those hairy legs at some premiere... I guess it just doesn't look groomed, and if you can't be bothered to groom for an occasion like the Oscars, it seems to imply you just can't be bothered with your appearance?

FWIW, I don't see anything wrong with it, it's just not for me. I happen to like my men groomed too...I just think it's more hygienic. :)

  • I think it looks gross and to me hair like this is unhygienic. Everyone should be free to choose what they want to do do but personally i like to be shaved and feeling clean.
