Oscars 2012: Gwyneth Paltrow and Emma Stone Take Sides

Mon, 27 February 2012 4:36PM

Two words: so chic.

The simple side part is so underestimated. Really, who would rationally think that moving your partline only a few centimetres would cause such wow-factor. But here, beauty jurors, we submit the pictorial evidence to back up the case for the affirmative.

Let’s start with Gwyneth. Ah, gorgeous Gwyneth. She is ageing so beautifully, is she not? It must be all that healthy, Goop-y living of hers. Lashings of illuminiser notwithstanding, she just radiates a happy inner glow.

Anyway, back to the hair, and specifically the side part. It’s sleek and modern, and perfectly balances out her asymmetrical neckline. Oh and here’s the back view:

Again working the beauty back to the fashion, we love how her long lean ponytail echoes the silhouette (not to mention shade) of her Tom Ford sheath and over-cape. (“A cape at the Oscars?” we hear you wonder? Yes, strange in theory, but it’s Gwyneth, it’s Tom, it works).

Now let’s turn our attention to another major girl-crush of ours: Emma Stone.

Again, a sleek side part is employed as a clever counterbalance to a lopsided neckline. But the so-cute Emma, with all her youthful, girlie exuberance, was never going to keep it as restrained as Gwyneth. Which explains this fabulous twirly-ribbon-like bun:

In summary, you can consider the side part to playfully work back to an asymmetrical neckline, as Gwyneth and Emma have done. But perhaps the strongest argument we’ve ever heard for moving our partline is this: middle partings work best on super-balanced features. Which, let’s be honest, not all of us have. In effect, side parts are simply kinder to most faces, providing a much more wearable frame. So, what are you waiting for? Brush off that tail comb right now!

What do you think, ladies? Convinced to get out of your middle-part rut?

And do you prefer Gwyneth’s minimal take on the look, or Emma’s girlie one?

I prefer Emma’s hair with the twisted bun and is a great look for her (and for the rest of us to copy). I found gwyneths part not as good as her usual middle part, I think for her it’s more youthful and flattering in her usual style :)

On my self i would do Gwyneths hair (only with a middle part) and Emma’s makeup.. i think that would be a pretty combination. i cant get over how perfect Emma’s winged eyeliner is!!

Side parts are always flattering. I like Emma’s particularly and loving her messy bun.

i rock the side part every day cos it suits my hair style, and i love it anyway.emma stone was gorgeous, charming and funny, not too mention total bombshell when she presented with ben stiller.one of the best moments of the night.i loved gwynnies dress but hated her hair.she should have done loose flowing curls or waves, would have been better

I like Gwynnies hair better and her makeup, as it looks more natural, however, I would probably do Emma’s look on myself. So there you go.

They both look great! They can really pick styles and make-up that suits them!

I have started side parting my hair for something different.
Emma’s hair looks great, so shiny and healthy.
