SAG Awards: Three celebs, three must-try hairstyles
Tue, 1 February 2011 7:09AM
If you checked into PRIMPED yesterday you should, by now, know that the SAG Awards kept us glued to our seats for the entirety of the day. It’s exhausting stuff blogging about every celeb on the red carpet and today, I’m going to bask in the knowledge that you are all packed with up-to-the-minute celebrity styling and it was all worth it. Yes, my eyes are pried open with toothpicks today, but hey, it was worth it wasn’t it? Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes.
Here’s something else you should be saying YES to today, Primpers. One, or all, of these delightful hairstyles that stole the show just a little bit yesterday. And here’s the good news, they’re all pretty simple to recreate, meaning there’s no excuse for you at least not to stand in front of the mirror, armed with your bobby pins, tail comb or curlers, testing my methods out. Go on, it will be fun.
First up, we have the delightful NATALIE PORTMAN and her baby bump…
As the new face of Miss Dior Cherie, I should alert you to the fact that her makeup is almost as heavenly as her Azzaro gown. Props to Eileen Kastner-Delago, her makeup artist, for the look. It’s beautiful.
But, it was celebrity hairstylist, Orlando Pita, who worked his magic on the award winning Portman, creating this sculpted, wavy hairstyle that worked perfectly with her gorgeous white gown. In fact, I think Mr Pita might have used his mad skills to make this more wearable version of the hair he created for the Christian Dior Haute Couture show in Paris recently. Don’t you think?
While this look is the hardest of the three to recreate, I’d recommend curling your ends with a tong before pinning them up so they can set. Spray like mad with a hairspray, and then let them loose. Now, gently position the curls across your head and down the side, letting them sit just behind your ear like Nat’s here. Simply twist your ends into a bun and secure with an invisible elastic and bobby pins.
If all that seems a little too hard, why not copy AMY ADAMS’ perfectly polished ponytail that makes her look very much like Nicole Kidman. Before the work.
Here she is…
Delightful option, yes? Especially with that fancy neckline that doesn’t allow for too much to be going on in the hair department. The slick ponytail is clearly a red carpet winner, it’s not too complicated, plus it stays neat for the entire night. Very handy with that French champers flowing freely at the table.
So, if you’re keen on this one simply grab yourself a smoothing cream or serum, blow-dry your ends with a paddle brush, pop your hair into a ponytail at the crown and finish off with some hairspray. Too easy, really. If you want to get super sophisticated, wrap a small piece of hair around your elastic. If not, just slip on your dress and head on out. Awesome!
Finally, we have HILARY SWANK and her big, sixties-inspired sex-bomb hair…
I have to say, this look really works on Hilsy. With her strong features, she can, at times, look a little harsh but with that bubble of softly curled hair, everything is softened and quite frankly, she looks HOT!
Her hairstylist, Robert Vetica, was inspired by Ursula Undress in James Bond and my, my Primpers didn’t he do a splendid job. Here’s what he did, and hence, what you can do too.
1. Start by blow-drying your hair with a serum in order to hydrate healthy ends or conceal dry ones. Vetica used Moroccanoil Treatment Oil, in case you’re wondering.
2. Next, pop in a set of curlers just like your nan used, and curl them in 1-inch by 1-inch sections. Start at the nape of your neck, pinning as you go. Continue until you’ve finished each section of hair.
3. Now, spray your set with hairspray and apply for makeup for around 20 minutes or so. Once you’re done, let the curls out and give them good brushing.
4. Finally, backcomb your roots for added lift and brush your fingers through the ends to loosen the curls. Repeat the process with a backcomb at the crown and whip that hairspray back out for one last blast. OK, you’re done!
So, tell me Primpers…
Whose hairstyle do you prefer here?
Any of these take your fancy?
