Video: Newbies: Remington Perfect Curls – it’s THE tool for the hair styling challenged

Wed, 12 October 2011 12:21PM

It’s only taken 23 years and 352 days, Primps, but I’ve finally found a curling tong I can actually use – Remington‘s Perfect Curls styling tong.

I know this makes me sound lame considering I am a Beauty Editor, and I know I wasn’t attempting to put waves through my locks at the age of two, but hey, it feels outrageously fantastic to have finally nailed the whole hair curling thing after so stinkin’ long.

Are YOU hopeless at curling your strands, too? Yes? Then please, for the love of the hairy gods, hand over a crisp fifty and get your hands on this dummy-proof bad boy:

Remington Perfect Curls Beauty Review

Remington Perfect Curls, $43.95

It’ll save your life, trust me. Well, maybe not your life, but it will rescue your always-straight strands.

HOW?

Well, see that protective barrier around the tong? That is the magic ingredient. To use, you simply slot the end of your hair in the clip at the base of the wand and then just wind it up. Yep, that’s all you’ve got to do. The hair will wrap itself around the tong in a perfect fashion, you see, guided by the heat-resistant barrier. It’s ingenious. And it works every single time.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE.

There is no burning of the hands.

There are no ringlet curls on the right side of your head, and bouncy, round curls on the left.

There is no awkward twisting and turning of the hair or your arms. (But just in case you find yourself in a twisted mess, it’s still got a super-nifty swivel cord.)

There is no breaking of the bank. (Yep, you’ll get $6.05 change if you hand over that fifty I mentioned earlier.)

But how do you actually use it? I’m gonna let this chick show you. She’s rather good at it. She also brought her own tunes, which means this vid entertains your ears as well as your eyes.

AH-MANE-ZING.

As much as I love this bad boy, though, I must warn you: if your hair is ultra-long, you won’t be able to curl your strands right up at the root area. My hair is around boob length, so this tool works a treat for me. But if yours is any longer, you’ll just have to settle for curls from ear level down, kind of like the chick’s locks in the vid. But hey, she looks all kinds of awesome, so you super-long-haired Primps would still be utterly stoked with this tool. I’m certain of it.

PRIMPS,

Do you struggle to curl your hair?
Have you been searching for a dummy-proof curling tool your entire life, too?
Are you going to race out and buy this bad boy? (You can find Remington products at department stores and electrical retailers.)

Words cannot describe how bung I am at curling my hair with a curling wand. I usually just curl with my ghd but that still doesn’t give me the perfect full, lush curl look.
Yay! Go Remington you good thing.

ahhh this looks amazing! I have a regular curling tong and then one very similar to this but instead of the rings as a protective barrier they heat up as well…. but this is great! yay!

  • Posted by: kristinkate Devotee // Wed, 12 October 2011 01:50pm

This is for me! I simply can’t master the curling wand or using my GHD – one side of my head always turns out completely different to the other. And for under $50…yes please!

  • Posted by: rosiebart // Wed, 12 October 2011 01:56pm

this looks awesome. somehow i manage to curl other peoples hair with GHDs but just cant manage with my own. i think it’s too long. well thats my excuse anyway.

awesome! i was about to get a conical curling tong, but heard they burn you fingers heaps (and I always burn my fingers on my straightening iron)… so I am totally sold on this one!

and what a bargain price, exactly what I was hoping for!
totally going to race out and buy this now!

  • Posted by: Julieow Master Fan // Wed, 12 October 2011 04:10pm

I’m so erratic with a tongs- my hair always turns out different, waves, curls, I never know what I’m gonna get! and how they will hold!!

  • Posted by: meelany_ Newbie // Wed, 12 October 2011 04:10pm

    I’m so excited for this!
I’ve tried to curl my hair again and again, and each time fail miserably.
I’m just not coordinated enough, I guess.

But this will change it all – yay!

It comes out next week and it’ll be in Myer.
I desperately searched everywhere on the net trying to find it and couldn’t, so I called Remington customer service and was informed :)

  • Posted by: Janelle // Wed, 12 October 2011 04:24pm

THANK YOU CHERIE! I too have been waiting for an easy was to curl my hair – I’ve never been able to master it. Definitely going to buy this!!

I am so impressed with this – I hate spending ages doing my hair but this looks quick and easy… and cheap! Her hair is amazeballs! But what kind of brush are you meant to use to brush out the curls?

  • Posted by: DB89 // Wed, 12 October 2011 06:21pm

That looks great…. but what I don’t get is how her hair is longer.. after she curls it?!?!?

  • Posted by: rachel // Wed, 12 October 2011 10:06pm

good god, im getting one tomorrow

  • Posted by: nita01 Master Fan // Wed, 12 October 2011 10:13pm

Wow!!! I’ve never been adept at using a curling iron. I always burn myself, always and my curls never stay or even curl properly. That video makes the curling process look fool-proof. This would be amazing.

  • Posted by: freshfaced Supporter // Wed, 12 October 2011 11:52pm

Chez would this still work well/look good on girls with about a chin length lob?
It looks super easy and burnt finger proof too!
Almost too good to be true …

Cherie – this is fantastic! I am off to Priceline or Price Attack on my lunch, this is a must have…

Looks so great and I love that you can get consistent curls without burning your hands..

  • Posted by: miranda Devotee // Thu, 13 October 2011 01:07pm

I love how happy and smiley the girl in the video is. She has made me think that I will be this happy and smiley and have great hair like hers if I buy this product! Ahhh advertising…

How does it compare to other clamp free curlers on the market Chez?
Was thinking of Vidal Sassoon’s Curl Magic… Should I switch my choice to Remington?

  • Posted by: SydneyRose Master Fan // Thu, 13 October 2011 08:11pm

It’s amazing! I’m sold! I absolutely love it and will check it out.

About two months ago I purchased a new Remington AC3000 Salon Pro Salon Collection hair dryer. So far I love it! It dries my hair fast and yet is gentle on my hair. I also like the fact that it has a 3 year warranty.

  • Posted by: misschris Master Fan // Thu, 13 October 2011 09:57pm

This has me intrigued… If it works as good as it says it does it will be a bargain at under $50.

  • Posted by: Elayne Enthusiast // Fri, 14 October 2011 01:25am

Very impressed with the price and way it works on her hair. But like others, would like to know if it works on shorter hair? But may be just sold and buy it anyway! She does look pretty happy with it :)

Anyone know where i can buy one of these bad boys? Just had a look in Myer and Target and BigW – no sign of them anywhere? Stranger, no sign of them for sale online either??

  • Posted by: beautybee1 Master Fan // Sat, 15 October 2011 08:02pm

I really must curl my hair one day just for fun. So many curls – so little time though.

  • Posted by: Becca Master Fan // Mon, 17 October 2011 08:26am

I haevn’t been able to find it yet, have checked one Myer & two Priceline stores… Has any primpers had any luck or is it just me?

  • Posted by: emilylauren Devotee // Mon, 17 October 2011 12:19pm

Since reading this article I have been looking everywhere for it, much like a few of these readers. I’m so excited to try it!
I noticed online that it has only just been released so maybe that’s why we all can’t find it??
But if anyone finds it.. you have to share where you bought it! :)

  • Posted by: emilylauren Devotee // Mon, 17 October 2011 04:36pm

    Primpettes! Begin your countdown!!
I just called Remington and apparently the shipment has been delayed, so its only just getting shipped out now. They said we can expect it on shelves in approx 2 weeks.
Myer, Priceline, Harvey Norman, Retavision, The Good Guys were all places were she said that they’d be stocked.

  • Posted by: sprinkles37 Master Fan // Mon, 17 October 2011 06:03pm

Becca i havent been able to find it either :( ive tried 2 priceline stores, a target, kmart and myer

Alright ladies, I finally found it at Priceline on Elizabeth St in Sydney CBD. There were only two left, and I am so excited. Haven’t had time to try it yet but can’t wait.

  • Posted by: VivaLaVicki Master Fan // Tue, 18 October 2011 03:28pm

Damn – they bring this out just after I perfect curling my hair with my straightener!!

    like it,want it :)

  • Posted by: Jennifer // Thu, 20 October 2011 03:35pm

I found this at the Priceline store in Melbourne CBD on bourke st, its only $39.99!
Though the curls are a little too curly for me..i prefer the more loose curls..but it does work great!
But i found that my hair kept getting stuck in the clip..but thats probably just my horrible technique (:

  • Posted by: Booboo Kittiefukk // Sun, 23 October 2011 02:11am

I’m definitely going to go out and try this out! It looks like it’ll be much easier to use than last year’s Lava Flo (http://www.amazon.com/Lava-Flo-Ceramic-Conical-Styler/dp/B002MOBQ00).

  • Posted by: Bantam Master Fan // Sun, 23 October 2011 02:37am

Looks great! What barrel size is it. And does it come in just the one barrel size?

  • Posted by: fingerkuffs Supporter // Sun, 23 October 2011 06:05pm

Just got the last one at my local Priceline! Can’t wait to try it on all my hair! ^_^

For those who are curious, the barrel is 19mm. I gave it a go on a few strands to see if I would get the same result as the video and I found that I did if I used small sections, so this looks like it’ll be a bit more time consuming. Also, the clip is a bit tricky for me cos my hair isn’t all one length. Still, I loved my little test run and I can’t wait to try it out on all my hair! ^_^

This one is hilarious, I thought I was the only curling wand challenged person out there. Seriously this looks like it will solve all of my problems. I am gonna get me one.

  • Posted by: Sarah D // Thu, 24 November 2011 08:30pm

I saw this at the Good Guys today!

  • Posted by: BeaverCity Supporter // Mon, 28 November 2011 09:16pm

Oh this is so awesome – I bought it on Friday for only 39.95 and it is absolutely foolproof! Took me about 45 min to do my whole head, and the girls stayed in all night!

    So worth it!

Funny side note, my boyfriend was impressed with the curls, so I pulled out my remington and said look what i got! He looked at me cautiously for a few seconds until he figured it out, you see he thought I’d bought some strange bedroom toy!

  • Posted by: Kellie // Mon, 24 December 2012 12:52pm

I hear you Kat! I have tried everything to get nice even curls on my dead straight hair. I spent a fortune on a GHD for the sole purpose of using it for curling but I’m a GHD novice. I just can’t master it. Needless to say, the Remington Perfect Curls is like the holy grail of curling wands to me. I bought it on a whim and I’m so glad I did. It’s idiot proof. I get consistent curls each time that stay in place for hours. I love this and it’s so cheap!
