How to: do Jennifer Lawrence’s bejewelled bun

Mon, 19 March 2012 10:05AM

A few Primpettes asked for a how-to on this gorgeous tinselly-tied ‘do, as seen on Jennifer Lawrence at the Los Angeles premiere of The Hunger Games

And here’s the back view … isn’t it hair heaven?

Well, your wish is our command! Simply follow these steps …

  • Celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend began by applying a big dollop of moisturising mousse to Jennifer’s just-washed, towelled-off hair, and blow-dried using a large round brush for a voluminous result.
  • He then sprayed hair with a thermal protectant, and hot-tonged large sections (approximately seven centimetres) using a mid-sized curling iron (ideally, go for a one-inch-diameter barrel).
  • Next, he sprayed a wax all over, to create second-day-like texture. Try Joico Dry Spray Wax, $27.95.
  • Finally, Townsend took two glittery headbands by hair accessories designer Jennifer Behr* (you could look for similar styles at Diva, or else buy lengths of sequins or glittery fabric at Spotlight) and weaved them into a long braid, which he then twirled into a bun, bobby-pinning it and misting with strong-hold hairspray it to secure it all in place.

And voilà! There you have a gorgeous new ‘do that is just begging to be taken out on the town.

What do you think? Sounds doable, right?

Let us know if you try it and how you go.

* FYI: Jennifer Behr‘s beautiful hair bands and jewels have been seen atop countless celebrities and, most famously, Gossip Girl‘s Blair. A selection is available in Australia at Honey Honey.

She has so much hair! (This is a compliment…) If I tried this hairstyle I’d have the most tiny, pathetic bun. I love the look though!
