How to: Olivia Munn’s Party-Perfect Bright-Lip Look

Party season calls for a number of dress codes, each with a beauty code to match. For instance, cocktail events might suit sleek strands, while a black-tie night-time affair is the perfect time to bring out a sexy, smoky eye. But what about those dos that are a little less formal? Say, a picnic with friends, or poolside drinks in the afternoon, or a lazy day at the local wine garden. In this case, actress Olivia Munn has your look all sorted, with this cute-casual beauty code …
SMUDGY EYES. There’s the serious smoky eye, and then there’s its casual, carefree cousin: the smudgy, slightly messy one. And it’s super-easy to recreate. You simply take a kohl-based eye pencil, etch it all around the eyes, and use your pinkie to smoke it out a little. Tip: Pack a few cotton buds in your party purse, as you might need to clean up the edges a little throughout your event. As you can see, Olivia has popped a little gold on her eyes’ inner corners. This is a genius way to ‘lift’ the look a little; alternatively, you could work with a black pencil shot threw with shimmer, such as the lovely Rimmel London Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal Waterproof Eye Liner in Sparkling Black, $9.95, from pharmacies. To finish, load up on waterproof mascara. Especially if you’re partying poolside.
FRESH BASE. Don’t you love how Olivia has let her freckles show through her sheer foundation? I’d even go so far as to bet that she’s wearing a tinted moisturiser, which not only gives such barely-there (yet just-enough) coverage, but also gorgeous dewy glow, due to its super-hydrating properties. For a really luminous effect, you could mix a liquid illuminator into your tinted moisturiser, before blending it all over. Try Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid, $32, Red Earth.
BRIGHT LIPS. Now, we’re ready for the focal point of the look: a poppy pout. You need serious pigment power here, so bypass glosses and balms and stains and go straight for a lipstick, whether a hot pink, like Olivia, a scarlet red, or a tangerine – whichever works back best to your outfit. Our top Olivia-inspired bright pink picks: Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Candy Pink, $23.95, from pharmacies, Nars Lipstick in Funny Face, $39, Mecca Cosmetica, and M.A.C Lipstick in Saint Germain, $36, M.A.C. For a long-lasting effect, paint two layers onto well-hydrated lips, tissue-blotting in between.
LOOSE HAIR. As Olivia shows, when your makeup code is cute-casual, hair doesn’t have to be anything too styled or serious at all. As long as it’s clean and shiny (cue a good wash and treatment the day before), you can do as little as scrunch a sea salt spray through the ends to add a little texture. Alternatively, go to bed the night before with your hair prepped with styling spray and twirled up into a top knot, then unfurl and shake out just before you head out the door the next day. Too easy.
What do you think, Primpers, is this a look you like for party season?
