How To: 5 Ways to wear glitter nail polish
Thu, 3 November 2011 1:13PM
Glitter nail polish is to beauty what a sparkly cocktail ring is to fashion. And boy is this nail polish versatile. Check out these five ways of putting your glitter polish to good use.
Single coat bling
On almost-bare nails (apply a base coat first), sweep a coat of glittery nail polish over the entire nail. One coat will give you a touch of shimmer while two or three will give you higher impact.
Product suggestion: OPI Nail Polish in Gone Gonzo, $19.95.
Colour layering
Apply a shade of your choice (can be a normal nail polish) to your nails first. Once your second coat is dry use a glitter nail polish as your top coat. A polish like OPI Nail Polish in Kermit’s Rainbow Connection, $19.95, is clear-based, making it a great way to spice up your top coat.
(Another) Product suggestion: OPI Nail Polish in Designer…de Better, $19.95 (over the top of) OPI Nail Polish in Meep Meep Meep, $19.95.
A touch of glitter
You don’t need to go all out with a glitter nail polish. Sometimes less is more. We love the look of a coloured nail with a strip of a glittery shade (in the same or a contrasting colour) across the top. Like a blinged-up French mani.
Product suggestion: OPI Nail Polish in Excuse Moi!, $19.95.
The one nail glitter look
Not unlike the trend Beyonce was seen wearing twice, try painting just the one nail with glitter polish. It’ll stand out big time. What finger gets the special treatment is completely up to you, although the ring finger is proving to be a favourite.
Product suggestion: OPI Nail Polish in Warm & Fozzie, $19.95.
Pretty patterns
Stripes. Polka dots. Zigzags. Yep, all of these will look great if done with a sparkly polish. Mix and match colours. Go nuts.
Product suggestion: OPI Nail Polish in Animal-istic, $19.95.
Here’s the product suggestions listed above in order from left to right:
Note: Not every polish in the Muppet collection is featured in the above image. The collection includes 12 new shades.

I’m currently wearing red glitter nail polish in a half moon manicure. Butter London The Chancer as base and Knees Up over the top and it is simply beautiful!

Ive been loving the microfine glitter in some polishes that makes them more iridescent than full blown glitteratti! Like Orly Nite Owl/Sea Gurl etc

Love, love, LOVE glitter polish! I’m more for variety than stamina in my polish, so I’m loving NYC and Ulta3. I usually pop a glitter polish over a base colour, I love baby blue with silver glitter, and pink with red glitter. Hmm, what combo to try tonight…

I love Glitter!!!!!!!!!!
I have Gone Gonzo… such an electric blue colour, i can’t stop staring at it when i wear it! would be great for the toes, and two-three coats gives great coverage….its such a bugger to remove glitter nail polish though, it takes forever to get all the glitter dots off!
