Valentine’s Beauty Special 2013: How to … Wear Pretty Pink Lipstick (The Latest Celebrity Looks)

Tue, 5 February 2013 5:12PM

Pretty pink pouts were a popular pick today for today’s Academy Awards Nominations Luncheon, and  a rather lovely and appropriate colour choice for upcoming Valentine’s Day celebrations, wouldn’t you agree? No matter your skin tone or date-night ensemble – or the venue, for that matter – these Oscar nominees have supplied us with a few shade variations and lip finishes to choose from.

Kicking off the proceedings is the lovely Jennifer Lawrence …

JENNIFER LAWRENCE

Whoah, mumma! Is it just me, or do you agree that this is possibly one of J.Law’s best beauty looks ever? It’s got that whole Brigitte Bardot vibe about it, with the smouldering smoky eyeshadow paired with the sweet ‘n’ shiny ballet-pink pout. The whole look is only bettered by her warm, honey-toned skin, with her luminous complexion set off by a touch of pretty rose blush.

To perfect a pale pink pout, lightly dab a touch of concealer to your lips which works to dull your natural pigment before applying a hydrating lip colour to provide a sheer wash, like Nars Cosmetics Pure SPF Lip Treatment in Lara, $40, Mecca Cosmetica.

JESSICA CHASTAIN

Ms Chastain’s softly curled waves and creamy complexion, offset by a pop of bright lipstick – perfectly placed to pick up the pink appliqué detailing in her dress – was yet another winning makeup combo.

Skip your gloss or balm for this one and head straight for a pigmented, yet high-shine finish lipstick like Clinique Colour Surge Butter Shine Lipstick in a Dozen Roses, $35, department stores, adding two healthy coats for a moisturised lip finish.

NAOMI WATTS

Looking the part of a glamorous screen siren, Naomi Watts’ fluttery lashes and glowy skin let her sheer, bright pink lip colour do the talking. It also looks as though she’s dabbed her lip colour on the flesh of her cheeks to warm them up a little.

We couldn’t think of a better option than Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Sweetheart, $17.95, Priceline. With one swipe you get a strong hit of colour, but ramp it up to two or three and you’ll achieve a stain-like finish, with a hint of luminosity. You can indeed dab it on your cheeks, too!

ANNE HATHAWAY

Anne continually sets the bar high with her luscious lip colour choices and this classic rosy pink-red shade is no exception, particularly as it works a treat on all skin tones. It pairs perfectly with a slick of winged eyeliner and velvety complexion, too.

For a similar finish, we can’t go past Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color in Heather Pink, $44, Bobbi Brown. It glides on like a dream, and contains just the right amount of moisturising-like quality to give lips a healthy sheen. Just remember to apply it with a lip brush, and blot between two coats so your colour lasts all night.

I’m a fan of Naomi’s look here. I agree that Jennifer Lawrence looks very sultry- I think her hair really solidifies the look she’s going for there.

Don’t particularly like Jennifer Lawrence’s look here, but Anne Hathaway looks fantastic! And Naomi Watts always seems to pick the right make-up colours to suit her.
