Confused with which brow product to use? You are definitely not alone Primpers! Even I get quite overwhelmed by the countless brow enhancers available on the market. Whether your brows need to be darkened, thickened, lengthened or heightened, the right product has the power to perfect your brows in minutes. Here are some common brow dilemmas fixed.

Skinny brows on a delicate face
If you need only a slight bulk up on your brows, use an automatic pencil. The fine tip is great for control and adheres easily to the skin. Just remember to always colour match your brow hairs.

General rule
Start at arch of brow (about two thirds of brow length). The start to arch of the brow is twice the thickness of the tail end of the brow.

I love using Maybelline Define-A-Brow Pencil, $13.50.

Skinny brows on a round, square or heart-shaped face

If your brows are disproportionately too thin for your face then follow this general rule: Start at the arch of brow (about two thirds of brow length). The start to arch of the brow is 3 times the thickness of the tail end of the brow.

For a flawless application, pencil in your desired thickness then softly overlap with brow powder. The brow powder promotes longevity and helps to smooth out any colour inconsistency.

I love using Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Taupe, Sable or Mahogany, $44 and Bobbi Brown Eye Brow Brush, $45.

Sparseness
Being a brow expert unfortunately doesn’t exclude me from this club. Here’s what I do to sculpt my brows:

- For a natural look, lightly shade in the sparseness with a brow powder. The trick is to start from the arch to the tail end where sparseness is obvious, and continue to fill in the rest of the brow.
- It’s crucial to colour match your brows! Don’t listen to anyone who advises you to use a lighter shade because it will only highlight the sparseness.
- The shading is only undetectable if the density of your brows is consistent.
- For a more Megan Fox type brow, amp it up with a putty formula for strong definition and sexiness. The rules of application are the same as using the brow powder, except this product is fantastic for all-day wear.

I love using Laura Mercier Brow Definer Brush, $40.

Untrimmed brows
Can be tamed with a clear brow gel or with hairspray. It’s best to have your hairs trimmed professionally so you don’t have to deal with rogue hairs for at least a month. If you really need to learn how to trim, I might address this topic on the next blog. So, let me know if you’re interested Primpers.

‘Barely Visible’ brows
Unless you have decent brows to begin with, don’t tint them darker – you will only highlight imperfections.

For new clients, I usually turn down their request to tint until I have almost fixed their brows. The darker your brows are, the more obvious the inconsistencies are.

In the meantime, you can slightly colour and define them with a brow mascara. Mascara is great for touching up grey hairs (if you are unlucky like me).

I love using Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper, $45.

So Primpers…

I’m naturally blonde, my brows are almost white. I colour my brows with 1000hour dye kit in Charcoal. I only leave the dye on for about 5 min or it’s too dark. I trim and pluck my brows myself (cos I’ve had a few horrors) I get complimented often so I think I do okay… but I’m always open to hints and tricks, spesh from Lien:)

I prefer brow powders as it gives a softer look than pencils.

Lou, great choice for tinting. I also use 1000 hour dye kit. My tip is to use a clean mascara wand to apply your tint. Always allow extra time for your tail end (arch to the end of your brow), this way the overall definition on your brows will be consistent.

I would love a post on how to trim too!!!! I trim my own but am always paranoid I’m going about it the wrong way. My all-time favourite brow product is Laura Mercier Brow Definer – it’s an awesomely pigmented hard gel/wax formulation.

Lien! I can’t believe you said that! I use a mini mascara wand and I ALWAYS start at on the outside and make my way in. i do them in equal time too, like a bit on the left then on the right, then left, right etc. Cos I don’t leave the dye on for long I don’t want one brow darker than the other… learnt that the hard way ;)

My fave product is Stila Brow Duo – a two tone powder, and Smashbox. My dilemma is skinny brows which won’t grow back. Have noticed a bit of help by taking “Hair Food Plus” supplement = biotin = very good for hair growth.

I would love to know how to properly trim eyebrow hairs. I did it once and now I have very small hairs growing upwards above my eyebrows!.. not a good look.

Has anyone had their brows filled in by getting them tatooed? My Mum plucked hers out completely in the 60′s and a friend of hers got them tatooed and they look so natural and incredible. I was shocked, I’m seriously considering getting the ends filled in/thickened rather then having to spend time everyday with powder/wax.

I much prefer to use powders to fill in my brows as they look more natural. I am currently using Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Blonde and it works a treat on me.
