How can I wear coloured eye shadow without looking like a ‘70s throwback?
Peacock blue and lavender eye shadow may conjure up the days of centre parts and high-waisted jeans…. Oh. They’re both back in fashion. Never mind. Point: Fun, bright shadow colours can look modern.
“Bold eyes look really effective as an evening or party makeup,” says M.A.C senior makeup artist, Nicola Burford. “Blues, greens and teals have dominated the catwalks with inspiration drawn from ‘70s and ‘80s rock and disco.” The key is to incorporate them into your usual makeup slyly (a coloured liner is a great way to test out a purple or aqua or blue) or opt for muted versions.
“Softer bronzes over all our tangerines, and burgundys over purples also work,” says Burford. Or try this: “Add an unexpected pop of colour added to a smoky or neutral coloured eye,” says Burford. “Try adding a hint of coral on a grey eye shadow or a pop of green on a bronzed makeup.”
