How to: Carry off Blue Mascara
Tue, 3 July 2012 10:03AM
I have a blue mascara, and I really love it, but I don’t know what shades of eyeliner and eyeshadow to wear with it. Could you give me some suggestions?
We’re really into blue mascara right now, too!
We blame Pat McGrath, and her lush lash work back at Stella McCartney’s winter 2012 show.
As you can (kind of) see, there’s nothing else on the eyes (except, probably, loads of concealer; blue shades can, after all, bring out any blue shadowy discolouration around the eyes). That’s not necessarily a look that a non-supermodel can easily carry off. And that’s where eyeliner and shadow comes in – and your question. You’re right to ask. It’s a tricky one, after all. Dark eye makeup would overshadow blue lashes, while matching liner or shadow would look too, uh, matchy-matchy. Our advice: stick to the neutral-eye idea seen at Stella, but add a little something-extra by using a shimmery- or glimmery-textured neutral. Our can’t-go-past buy, when it comes to glitzy nudes, is Stila Kitten, $38, Mecca Cosmetica.
By the way, although you already have your favourite blue lash colour, we have to throw our two tops into the ring: ck One Mascara in Electrify, $30, from Myer, and YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in Blue, $52, from department stores.

i love using blue, it brightens the eyes and whites hiding tiredness. I find that just the blue is enough if you can get intense pigmmentation, so i like to layer it over regular black or brown mascara.

I love using coloured mascara or liners, especially violet mascara or teal liner.

I am a huge fan of blue mascara- I used to use a subtle purple eyeliner to accompany.. But only on the odd occasion.

I’m a fan of a contrasting eyeshadow when wearing blue mascara. I use a mac orange/gold type eyeshadow, just a tad on the outer part my eyelids. Works a treat.

I find using a contrasting eyeshadow is a great way to make your eyes pop. When i wear blue i use a nude base, then an orange/gold eyeshadow on the outer part of the eyelid. It looks amazbells.

i LOVE blue mascara! i do it for a bit of fun or for a night out… or i often do black on top and blue on the bottom row for a more subtle hint of colour and to make my eyes pop!

Love these tips…another great tip is to just apply the blue mascara to the tips of your lashes for a subtle dash of colour.

i love to apply just a light coat of it over black mascara, so it is barely visible… if the lashes are too blue i think its just scary lol

What’s that rule? If you were old enough to wear it when it was in style the first time around, don’t do it when it comes back in fashion? I rocked electric blue mascara in 1986, I think I will leave this for the teens!
